OG Vortex Drone Trailer is For Sale!
After much thought, we have decided to sell our enclosed 24-ft Alcom Stealth drone trailer. We put a lot of time and money into designing and building out this unit. I'm sure it will go to a great home. It only has a couple thousand acres on it. Given we do a lot of more treacherous pasture work, we needed something with a bit higher ground clearance. This will do great for large fields with better access. If you're interested either message me or reach out via text or phone to my cell 817-659-3211.

    Very impressive setup. I enjoy equipment builds. I am in the pressure washing industry and have built all of my rigs. Nothing special but nothing like having a setup that works for you. We have been looking at getting into washing buildings with drones. That is how I ended up on your video.

      I'm down here in Texas with lots of sun and it's actually quite the contrary. The drone will when landing since the top of the deck as an obstacle which I then disable and land manually. I prefer that anyways I don't want to rely on autonomous landing on the top deck.

I need to do a better job of getting more out there as this industry is starving for content. The motorcycle is a must. You will only do the walk of shame once when you run low on battery and have to land a half mile away only to have to carry a 30 lb battery all the way out there and back. Also very useful for confirming boundary points if needed.

      It's even better when the same toy can be very useful in the field putting in work. We have found them to be hugely useful. I used to do a lot of motocross and desert style riding on big CRF450s and our crew always had smaller pit bikes like this that we did up to make them big boy bikes with aftermarket bars, seats, forks and shocks, and lots of other accessories you can go crazy. Having beers at the campfire and ripping around a small track at camp was always fun after a long day of riding on the big bikes. I just took that thought process and applied it here just haven't done all the upgrades on my little Honda yet.

      My current 44807 exemption only allows me to fly one drone because I do not have swarm capability yet however I did submit my amendment 3 months ago and am awaiting that capability. I do know that new exemptions when issued have swarm capability which will allow you to fly up to three drones with one pilot. Not saying that's a good idea if you're not very experienced

    We plan on running six T60 drones next spring. Custom spreading granular fertilizer. Air conditioners for upper deck pilot’s command station and chargers is a must. Need approx 6 ton hopper for fertilizer. 45 foot trailer pulled by 1 ton dually. Hydraulic unfolding walls to give us lots of room on the upper deck is preferred. What are your thoughts on the design of this?

    • @VortexAdvantageAg
      @VortexAdvantageAg หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey there. Sounds like a pretty elaborate setup. One concern I would have is maneuverability given that is a very long trailer and with the truck will be difficult to navigate tighter access fields. Not sure where you're located or what type of terrain you'll need to navigate to get your spray work done but if you plan on running six drones off one trailer you're going to need multiple generators, and supporting equipment. Honestly I think flying six drones off one rig is going to be challenging to say the least and probably less efficient than having three separate trailers with two drones on each. Having that option would afford you more maneuverability and enable you to keep your team close to the start point and resumption point for each of the two drones. With six you're going to need to move very frequently. I'd love to hear what you decide to do and how it works out for you maybe I'm wrong just my two cents Good luck! If you need diesel generators I get great pricing on them and offer all sizes.

      Hey there another thought process on having t60s by spring. I'm very doubtful that would happen given the T50 is the drone DJI is pushing in the US market most likely until late summer. At least that's been roughly the release schedule for newer models. We'll see but seems highly unlikely they would release the T60 right on top of the T50. Great work! Hey I have a question regarding jobs for federal agencies such as BLM and NRCS. There’s tons of potential acres for brush control but I’m worried they won’t contract with me since I use DJI. The American Security Drone Act prohibits the use of DJI drones on federal land and federally funded awards starting in December 2025. Also they seem pretty serious about banning DJI altogether. Any concerns, thoughts or opinions on this topic?

    • @VortexAdvantageAg
      @VortexAdvantageAg 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Honestly, I don’t think it’s feasible for them to ban one company when almost the entire drone market is comprised of drones made in China and the ones made here are sourcing parts from there. It seems unlikely that an entire industry not just agricultural would be shut down with a ban like this. We are talking about a massive impact to our economy this would bring so I just can’t fathom it happening. I understand the government contracts not being awarded but what drone manufacturers would fill this void if a ban were to be imposed more broadly? Who knows but I’m full speed ahead.

Just trying to set up my system, and not sure if i need 1 pump for the clean water(fill and rinse tanks) and one for agitation and transfer from the tank to the drones. Or is it one pump and a plumbing setup and design that I might be missing. Thanks for any help.

    • @VortexAdvantageAg
      @VortexAdvantageAg 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey there, thanks for the compliments. I have been planning on posting an update video showing how I split the plumbing and added a second pump for freshwater. I was getting some cross-contamination into my freshwater tanks, which is never good even as careful as I was being with the valves. I run two CT6 HF pumps, one for freshwater and jug and tank rinse and one for agitation and filling the drones. I will say they are advertised as being 30 minute duty cycle so not sure if that is the best choice for agitation and drone filling. In a perfect world, you would want that running all day, which I have done lots of days with this pump without issue. Just not sure if that will be a problem down the road or not.

    Just curious on the competitive rate for drone spraying? What is the charge per acre that is typical?

    • @VortexAdvantageAg
      @VortexAdvantageAg 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Honestly, it’s all over the place depending on region. Some areas struggle to get 10 or $12 per acre and others get north of $15-$18 per acre. I’m sure the demand will drive that price in either direction.

    Would love a better view or layout diagram of your plumbing! We are up in Michigan and putting together our first trailer right now. Any kind of help or advice would be great! Plumbing looks really good and we are trying to replicate something very close to this. Can’t completely tell how you get your agitation around back to the tanks. Congrats on an awesome trailer and hope your spray season goes well!

      Thank you for all the kind comments and for reaching out. Yes the plumbing can be a bit daunting when you’re mapping it out, especially if you haven’t done it before. I had designed the layout of the components and then had a guy put together all the plumbing for us. Since that video, we have actually changed it even more for the better. Happy to chat about it anytime. 817-659-3211.

    Super cool setup! How much do you charge per acre?

    • @VortexAdvantageAg
      @VortexAdvantageAg 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you! It really depends on what we’re doing. A lot of the acres we have been working our range or pasture work, which can be a lot slower going and more complicated with many obstacles and varying terrain. Also access to the pastures can be difficult so those will all cost more. The field crops like corn and wheat are in that $15/acre range. Range and pasture $15-$20/acre depending on difficulty. You in the biz? Or a producer?

    • @austinporter1546
      @austinporter1546 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@VortexAdvantageAg thanks for the info. We are producers. Maybe a dumb question: how do you price out the chemical? Or do producers provide you with what they want sprayed ?

    • @VortexAdvantageAg
      @VortexAdvantageAg 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @austinporter1546 not a stupid question at all, and you will see that there are all kinds of answers to that question. We personally like to pass along savings to our customers, but need to make some margin on the product we spray if I’m going to handle the logistics of getting it on the job. I would say the margins are between 10 and 20% on the product. That can also be used as wiggle room for negotiating on larger jobs. Ultimately you want your full application fee and the product margin is a bonus. That’s how I look at it anyways.

    Nice setup. Could you tell me more about the clamps used to hold the drone down. Thank you and keep posting

    • @VortexAdvantageAg
      @VortexAdvantageAg 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey there thank you for the kind comments. I love the community in the drone agricultural sector. Everyone has been very thoughtful and complementary. Regarding the clamps, I used to strap the drone down. I actually got the idea from someone else in the community and have provided a link here on Amazon. a.co/d/bWBNPCA. The one thing I would say, could improve them, is somehow getting rid of the metal on metal contact between the landing gear and the buckle. When you strap them down, there are two positions you can use over the landing gear. One is tight, and the other one stretches the rubber strap further, and gets it tighter. I would suggest using that tighter setting on the strap if you were drone is higher up off the floor or something. I don’t know that I would trust these if my drone were sitting on the back of a flatbed truck or something like that, but inside a trailer, they were great, and I’ve never had them come off. they have slid off the base of the buckle front or back, but the buckle did not come undone. That’s because the metal on metal allows it to slide more so than it would if there were some rubber in there somehow. I thought about cutting a 6” piece of 1 inch hose and then cutting it down the length of it, opening it up and gluing it to the bottom of my landing gear as to provide a nonslip skid type thing. That would definitely solve the problem of it. Sliding off the buckle. The Lang actually rests on top of the buckle unit. would be better in my opinion if there were two separate pieces to the buckle and the lager directly on the surface but that’s not how they’re made.

      Thank you. We are running a different drone. It's the Hylio AG-272. Trying to get our storage/tender trailer finished up. I do enjoy your videos. Everything well thought out. Thanks again. Neil

      @neilflanagan202 awesome sounds like you’re well on your way to getting something going if you’re not already. We initially put a deposit down on two Hylio AG230’s but changed our mind and decided to run DJI. Nothing against the folks down Hylio, they were very nice and I’m sure we do great things. I just hated having to give up the efficiency. We saw the 272 in action down there when we visited a thing is a beast. Might be a handful getting in and out of a trailer moving from field to field but if you can make that process efficient you should be good. Maybe create some sort of dolly That you can scoop it up once the arms are in their upward stowed position.

    Great build! How are you acquiring customers? Does it “sell itself”?

    • @VortexAdvantageAg
      @VortexAdvantageAg 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks a bunch! Appreciate the positive feedback. Acquiring customers is something that comes with knowing how to market yourself and the belief that you can provide a better service than the next guy. Just get yourself out there in front of decision-makers in your area who can drive business your way.

    Really insightful - great setup! If you don't mind answering, what's the function of the hose coming off the 3rd tee from the discharge side of the pump?

    • @VortexAdvantageAg
      @VortexAdvantageAg 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you! I don’t mind answering at all. The guy who helped me plumb the tanks on the trailer said that he installed that valve as a way to manage the maximum PSI the pump would get. If you notice the handle is taken off of the valve. We have it set to roughly 28 psi and if I’m not mistaken, the flowserve CT6 has a max psi of 30. In hindsight, I read that the pump ( a diaphragm pump) has a built-in pressure relief bypass system so I’m not sure why exactly that third valve was needed but that was the intended use of it. hope that helps!
