Great work Raphaël, superb! Glad to be a new subscriber to your channel.
thank you !
Pretty good composition. Two things I’d say: 1. Some notes are a little too low and would require it to be played on a pedal harpsichord (lowest note on manual is F), or it be played on a piano. 2. The answer to the fugue is a bit abrupt and might need a transitionary bridge between the dux and comes rather than a jump to G despite it being a D-G motion. This has more so to do with the musicality of how that is the only motif the subject has (and that it’s an off beat). Harmony wise it is technically fine.
thank you for commenting, I don't think any notes is below the low F, I'm an organist and a harpsichordist myself, or give me some examples
Also thanks for the advice
@@lorganiste8953You’re right, I wasn’t thinking right when I wrote it. I was looking specifically at 2:40 with the circle of fifths and was thinking how the bass was too low to play the tenor with the left (assuming the right hand can’t play the tenor since it’s more than an octave from the soprano). I’m a harpsichordist too and I could definitely hear the continuo influence in your prelude. I’m personally very interested in fugues hence why I commented since yours sounded like something I’d improvise based on the tradition. Also I was thinking about how to make the end of the subject sound smoother. Instead of the G diminution I’d probably play Fsharp as a quarter to move into the next measure.
@@loldddddgt1322 yeah, I wrote what I improvised too tbh
really good fugue, definitely adding it to my playlist
thank you !
Stick to the most useful and coherent contrapuntal rules and then, in many cases, forget about them... and fill the polyphony with reckless movements, senseless doublings, clumsy harmonic stasis. It's probably a new concept of beauty that we may have missed...🙄
The word "baroque" is in my opinion a facility, check the Italian and french baroque, completely different from German baroque, all of these are good, just far from one thing they call baroque
The intention of the Fugues should be to appear beautiful despite the complexity. Here the theme has a rather elementary baroque profile while the harmonic treatment that is ultimately chosen is not. It could be a deliberate intention or... maybe it's just a limitation. Complexity is not necessary to tell the truth and perhaps even uninteresting if it does not arise naturally from a subject.
honestly, in this fugue it is a limitation, didn't know that would be my most viewed video because it's not the best music I wrote
This is nice, but a few things struck me as not ideal: - The tenor voice is sometimes too low and close to the bass, which makes it difficult to discern. For example, in the first stretto. - The rhythm is a bit awkward: sometimes you have a lot of 1/16 notes, then sometimes only 1/8 or 1/4 notes. Better to keep up a 1/16 or 1/8 note pulse throughout, divided between the voices. - The voices coincide a lot, giving it a block chord accompaniment feel throughout. Syncopate some of the voices and you will also solve the rhythm problem as well.
thank you for your comment! Bach did everything you said here in his fugues
I would consider this as good a piece as the fugues that Bach wrote. There are now a lot of composers that I see, and their music is worthy of the concert circuit.
thank you ! honestly even this fugue is far from what Bach has done
I have no idea how this stuff is made but I assume a great deal of work and time was put into this piece.
a little bit yeah, thank you!
Tuning: 0c: A4 = 440Hz
unfortunately yes, not 415hz, for me it is a shame to tune a harpsichord this way
