    Agree with almost all of this list. Only slight disagreement would be the placement of Jalenhorm. I think he's at least a B tier. In The Heroes, he fights Black Dow and had the upperhand, though there is the chaos of the battle to consider and a few other factors, but he had Dow on the backfoot. If it weren't for Craw, I think Jalenhorm stood a decent to good chance of beating Dow.

    I don’t think bayaz is an eater because of the physical signs. Using his art always left him too weak and too tired. He shows none of the speed, strength or vitality of an eater even when his life is on the line. With a some eaters talking about it with regret there seems to be some kind curse that is in exchange for its power. But why does he need to when he had Sulfur and in the past shenkt to do his bidding. If bayaz was an eater he’d be one of the most if not the most powerful in the series he would have backhanded his way across the old empire instead of having a magical seizure and have to be cargo in a coma. Like Sulfur could catch cannon balls with his hands and the big dog himself needs to take a nap every time he burns someone nah he’s not an eater there is some catch to the whole deal he’s avoiding.

  • @ValentinoBasado
    @ValentinoBasado 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    In my opinion, the scene where he eats meat in front of Calder is just to really hammer down the fact that even amongst an Eater, other Magi, warlords, leaders, kings, killers etc Bayaz will always find a way to be the biggest predator in the room. He really is an eater but in a subjective sense of consuming people not for fleeting power the way an eater would but rather a permanent power over their lives as he does with the totality of the Union. The way he eats the meat he is also subjectively eating Calder by putting him ubder his thumb. I dont think hes an eater. As previously mentionned in the comments Bayaz likes soft power unless he is pushed in a situation where he has to use "paranormal" abilities for example high art or the seed. Ive always theorized that Bayaz trained to always be able to "Heat up" the seed, it was part of his long game just a tool. Other than those extreme situations he uses soft power because he believes that with the way the world is evolving and that populations are increasing its simply not efficient to be using magic all the time.

    • @DeTruthful
      @DeTruthful 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Exactly! I think there some kind of catch to being an eater I can’t remember who but I think 1 or 2 talked about it like it was a curse. So why would he do it as the first of the magi knowing what he knows if he can have his own personal eater do eater stuff for him. I think even Khalul and Mamun didn’t want to do it, it was a sacrifice to fuck up bayaz as they were out gunned at the time. I think Bayaz looks at magic as just another tool like a lever or a bank. Like it might be better to have a friend with a boat then actually owning one. He’s gotta pay for repairs, scrub the barnacles, buy the gas, read at charts, pay fees. You just gotta chill on the boat and bring some beers.

    • @Tr33ba1t
      @Tr33ba1t 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      this point is emphasized, I think, by the time when Bayaz almost died after blowing up a tree, which killed, what, twenty men? Even if he sees a use for Art, or for eaters, it would make much more sense for him to manipulate others than to take on the risk himself.

    Great video guys, I hope you keep making them. This is just my bias showing, but I think you're kind of counting out Scale (I think I might be the only person that actually likes him). From what we saw of him in the Heroes, he was remarkably self-aware about his limitations, but he also understood the nature of the North a lot better than his brother ever did. Add to that him being a well regarded fighter (my guess is he'd be somewhere around Glama or Cairn, but not on the level of the Crew) and Calder acknowledging that his men loved him... I think given the right circumstances he could, potentially, mature into a decent leader and maybe even a contender for his father's crown. That's a massive reach, but I wouldn't dismiss it entirely.

    I think West, in keeping with the themes of the series (as exemplified by Logen Ninefingers) would take a very Tony Soprano Season 6 approach to life. To eleaborate in Season 6a of the Sopranos, Tony is shot in the stomach, survives after a period of coma, and gets a second chance at life. He chooses to be nicer, and to stop to smell the roses. But in Season 6b, Tony reverts back to his piece of $#!+ self he always has been. For West, he would take a new approach to life having survived the radiationof the Seed, be calmer and nicer to people, make all the necessary apologies, etc. But eventually small things would tear away at him until something big finally sets him off and he is biting noses off again, showing that you can't change a person's nature. Not for long any way.

    • @circleoftheworldpodcast2632
      @circleoftheworldpodcast2632 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely a route that it could go, we may be to optimistic but we like to think some people in the series change however I can't deny the comparison and Joe has a tendency towards such things. If anything I'm sure George agrees with you haha!

    No. Stay the fuck away from my favorite books. If you support this, you are a filthy casual, because we've all seen what Hollywood does to everything it gets it's hands on. True fans enjoy the books for what they are and are content with that.

    • @circleoftheworldpodcast2632
      @circleoftheworldpodcast2632 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can enjoy both, and of course Hollywood could fuck it up, but on rare occasion it works out. We are just hoping for the best. If you just like the books then you can do that, I tend to see it as people going to watch a movie then picking up the books because they watched the movie and realizing how amazing the books are. Believe me they are my favorite books too but a bad movie won’t ruin the books.

    • @angmori172
      @angmori172 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@circleoftheworldpodcast2632 it doesn't ruin the books, but it ruins... Something. I think we can agree that there exists a relationship between books and their adaptations. LOTR didn't change because of the Jackson trilogy, but... Seeing a great rendition of something you love does bring joy. And seeing it tarnished will always nag at your mind. I love Wot, but seeing it get rafed has left a sour taste in my soul. So I stick by my words. I disagree with the 'you don't don't have to watch it' bullshit. You don't have to spit on my beloved stories. The only adaptation of TFL that will work is an anime series. Even GoT merely started out okay, because too much great inner monologue gets lost in translation. I repeat: STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM MY SHIVERS AND COSCA YOU FILTHY HOLLYWOOD SCUM!

      @@circleoftheworldpodcast2632 come on!! He's an eater! No way Bayaz as a character would pass on extra power like that....But I think it would be more interesting if he wasn't.

      He shows none of the abilities of an eater tho none of the speed, vitality, strength. Look at the abilities of the 100 words, shenkt, etc even sulfur caught a cannon ball. Bayaz would be maybe the strongest eater if he was one and could have backhanded his way across the old empire instead of passing out everytime he uses his art. I can’t remember exactly who but a couple eaters talked about it like it was a curse so I think there some catch that comes with his power. And bayaz thinks I’m nigh immortal anyway and I have eater(s) to do my bidding when I need that tool why get mixed up in that shit myself if I don’t need to.

    Love this video! I would love to see more just like it. It really breaks down the geographic, social and political dynamics of the north

    Very good video. I especially like the map, who is the artist? I see is a bit different inthe placement of places and the flow of rivers than the canon map I've seen, but I like this one more so it's great!

      I got some inspiration from other artist and did some tracing of some keys features before I made it. But thank you! I’m quite happy with the map but will probably modify and add as we go through the series we’ll see!

    Projects like this are so important to help grow the entire first law universe. When people discover the series and start googling their questions etc.. videos like this will really help to pull them in to the world. Great work

    Do you not think that Bayaz would have just had Sulfur kill West, due to the influence (I assume) he would have over Jezal? Bayaz would recognise West as a threat due to his competence and popularity. Unlike Jezal who’s more of a useful idiot. I think Bayaz wouldn’t choose West as his second, more because he isn’t as ruthless as Glokta. Bayaz knows Glokta will do the really dark shit that he thinks needs to be done. Edit: The dogs part was hilarious 😂😂

    • @circleoftheworldpodcast2632
      @circleoftheworldpodcast2632 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s highly possible that West would be killed in the scenario he lives, but I don’t think early on, and later it might be better to keep as a retired war hero who can come in and help with stability when he backs Jezal. He’s a tool like everyone is until West chooses a different path. Definitely agree on your second point, he picked Glokta because he was ruthless not be surprised he was popular

    Shivers in one of my favs but Gorst would win. A hard fought battle no doubt but Gorst always relishes challenges & would level up. I always felt that there were also subtle hints of a hidden mystery (more than just training) about Gorst fighting skills/berserkerness. Beloved by the Union moon maybe lol
