Bjorn Borg vs Ilie Nastase(1976 Wimbledon)excerpt
Love Bjorn's WTF reaction just as Nastase jumps over the net. Ille, a great tennis player, an awful human being.
What a pleasure unlike now with everyone having the exact same cookie cutter ground strokes Hardly ever see one handed backhands anymore
Can anybody see the ball?!!!
It's fake....there is no tennis ball flying.....😂
Borg is the father of modern tennis
Superplayer remesh
easier days of tennis...serve and volley
Good rallies.
unbelievable match. This was starting point of modern tennis technology. I am sure with todays equipment both of them have the skills to win majors on fast surfaces. Lendls forehand especially out of the backhand side and Beckers backhand down the line on this fast surfaces brilliant stuff. Out of my point of view Becker had more talent but was more inconsistent and on the other side Lendls consistency was magic. I miss those allcourt tennis. Today we can see only similar baseline rallies, yes with high intensity but over the time boring to watch
This is the one Indian player who I respect
wow. indian guy plays like someone from 1950. i thought it was ken rosewall!.
Ramesh zero power just finesse
Interesting to see they have not taken a break between the sets when it was 6-2 first set.
Lots of comments about Ramesh's lack of power and athletic ability. Remember, he got to many Grand Slam quarters and was ranked in the top 25 in the world. And he has defeated many World Number 1s
I was age 13 when i saw this final and ive been a Borg fan ever since. I'm now 61 and still love this. 76 was a very hot summer 😅
I was 15, myself an ambitious tennis player, living in a Stockholm suburb close to Södertälje where Borg comes from. Earlier that year something incredible happened. One day me and a friend were on the school yard when Björn came walking across it holding hands with my friend's sister! A surreal experience, so near and so distant.
Miss the old school serve and volley artistry. More strategy, less brute power. But these heros of yesterday wouldn’t stand a chance with today’s top players.
That was when US open had so many daytime matches. The Europeans generally struggled with the heat, and played slowly to conserve their energy.
Only if he could add more power to his serve and have power as an option but the thing was he didn't have power but I do respect that he made the most of what he had...
Connors said his Slazenger racquet was very stiff . With the amount of errors he made it looked too stiff.
I miss NEC
Looks like practice or exhibition match. Seem to be no power in shots and athleticism.
Has Krishnan ever served an ace?
ジミコナズ🎉イチバン😂😅
Ramesh Krishnan had wonderful placement and good movement in net
Wow this is a treasure
Stylish play. Love it.
Edberg was playing like practice match
An Indian in US open Quarterfinal , that’s an achievement in itself ..
Sampras to Ivanisevic was something like Federer to Roddick later.
Classic, copybook footwork. Those who want to learn basics of stroke execution then they may please observe how he plants one foot fully on ground. That gives stability which is essential for accuracy. Coaches should also learn and encourage their students to observe each stroke... These new rackets have made a mess of basics... 😂😮

Becker had the skills and talent to win more Grand Slams and remain World number 1 consistently during his career.
Connors wasn't feeling well during this match. Gilbert was fortunate to catch Connors at a time where he was vulnerable. If a player didn't have huge weapons and had to grind it out Gilbert was going to be tough to deal with. There's video of a US Open match between Connors and Gilbert where they are both healthy. It's a little more illustrative of the difference in caliber between these 2 players.
We watched that live back then, what a thrill it was and we totally freaked out on that match point. Awesome times and awesome tennis with fantasticplayers,. The 70s and 80s were golden.
ダブルスプレイヤーだと思ってたら、この大会でムーディーのシングルス初めて見て、なかなかいけると思った
Was the top spin backhand not invented? Everyone seemed to use the slice backhand then.
This is the kind of tennis I really miss. There was much more net play, some amazing angles and volleys. Today's professional tennis is just plain boring. It is mostly just bashing the ball back and forth from the baseline.
90% of today’s tennis is simply unwatchable. The same bs over and over, point after point. Stand 5 feet behind the baseline and smack the ball as hard as you can. No thought, adjustments, little net play and certainly no serve n volley. No difference in strategy and no individuality.
There is something crisp about the way they play.
This was great tennis. All court play and not just staying glued on the baseline bashing away. Today's professional tennis is boring, I really miss the tennis of the 60's 70's and 80's
i have the VHS video!
Glibert wouldbt be in the top 10,000 now if he played. Unathletic rich boy
開高さんがお酒の紹介をすると、流石壽屋の名ライター故に美味そうに感じる。
No baseline rallies in the 80s and 90s??? 😂😂😂. This was complete all court tennis
Lendl was my favorite player. I was obsessed with his power hitting. When Lendl quit, i stopped watching tennis. Before every game of Lendl's i was nervous that he would lose. Especially so when he was facing Becker. Because Becker was a tough German dude and he matched Lendl shot for shot (even though Lendl was one up on him on H2H in the end.) Another player i did not want Lendl to lose to was McEnroe. But Lendl usually got the better of McEnroe despite McEnroes big mouth constantly yapping and threatening umpires. There were some players that were good but i felt like they had no personality and were like zombies. Bjorn Borg, Stefan Edberg, Mats Wilander and some others were the most boring players in my opinion.
Love the way Nastase cuddles Björn after the match point, I am sure the feelings were mutual.
Brad might have been ugly but not wining any majors.
Gilbert took this one because it was gift wrapped by Connors. About as bad as Connors could play.
Just before 4 minutes Borg grunts whilst serving and then again on the final volley of the rally. Never knew him to grunt before!
A chier
Hard to believe its been 35 years, the match still holds up!
The first two titans of the modern power baseline game. Sampras was watching in the crowd just like Alcaraz was watching Novak at the French open. Circle of life
