I use trenshadow version switcher from here www.purediablo.com/forums/threads/spf-community-links.39/ although using multiple installs *can* work, you have to zip whichever versions you are not currently using or they will try to launch eachother and mess up your file tree. 522 is the closest I can get to 500 with full mules. 9 mules with 58 rings each and 3 tomes of identify. Identifying one at a time is more fun than just asking Cain to show them all at once.

I watched AoE2 for a while, but stopped mostly because I think Artosis is a better commentator than... Is it T90? So I switched to watching brood war casts instead of AoE2. Also the AoE2 games are often quite long.

@@friendofjim Yeah, T90 is an amazing caster and he did so much for AoE2, but I don't like his choice of games. I mostly watch other guys (DauT, Hera, Viper) who post their own matches, and I prefer shorter games, sub-20 minutes are the best ones. imho.

It unfortunately is not enabled in my channel to play a 2nd audio track, but I'll continue recording them with two audio tracks so someday I can go back and fill them in.

That works, but it does have the drawback that if you mis-time it you will be stuck doing a full attack animation with a guaranteed miss before you get to try again (and the mobs will get to hit you in the meantime), whereas if you mis-time clicking without shift you can back off and try again without getting hit.

It's true my mouse clickery is F tier. Whenever I forget and activate a waypoint I didn't want it's pretty frustrating :D

I spent some time today looking how to give the option of removing my voice from the videos and think I have found a solution. I'll try it out with my next video by adding a 2nd audio track under "Australian English" subtitles, and see if it works.

Ok so! DumbestBarbEver got his name from an idea that he ended up not doing: Leap Attack + Berserk Shenk the Overseer to kill him very quickly, and then hork all the minions that die with him for the purpose of finding gems. I tested briefly the gem odds horking random mobs and was unimpressed, so he ended up just being a trav barb.

I will use them in cube recipes in 1.07-1.10a beta to make bugged items and such. I farm them in 1.00 council because they have a very good drop rate here. There is a lot that drop in 1.07+ council as well, but the process goes much slower there because I pick up a lot of junk to identify, so this is a way to speed up progress on the particular goal of finding sapphires.

@@jordanstamand Yep! I've been recording all of my gameplay since January and uploading it, so when I reach a certain number of gems (in the past I waited for 1000 sapphires, but I might go early at 500 or so) that will also be recorded. Sometimes I *might* try to do crafting sessions as a live stream I'll just have to see how I feel and how my time availability is when that happens.

Glad you like it. Just be aware that as the guided playthrough series goes on, it is a *full* playthrough including all map rolling and levelling and consequently loses a lot of the "guide" aspect as I already explained most thing, and becomes more of me talking about my day (or life) while slowly grinding out progress.

Not 40 quite yet, got a couple years left :p Amethysts are less interesting to me for the most part. Anything less than Flawless I would never consider cubing up to perfect for crafting amulets (Jewels limit anyway), so anything lower tier than that I value similar to diamonds.

Almost certainly it wasn't developers trying to cheese themselves some items. When I said that it was an off-the-cuff and cynical comment reflective of my mood at the time more than reality. I think Llama had the dev on stream who made that code, and they had put it in without the knowledge of any other developers so probably it was just like a "signature" or something they did for fun while grinding away on game development. You are right. I wouldn't say I'm into lego, but I wouldn't mind being into lego and it would be a pleasant way to spend my relaxation time slot in a low energy way similar to how I play d2. I enjoyed them a lot as a kid, and my favorite sets were the two Darktron sets we had. I really liked the yellow cockpit cover pieces.

I haven't played d4, or d3, or... almost anything made in the last 15 years :D so I can't comment too much on the quality of modern games. Although I think the lack of longevity for people playing it speaks for itself with regards to d4. I think for the sake of my own enjoyment that nostalgia, already understanding game mechanics, and already having long term goals definitely give d2 an unfair lead over most anything else.

By playing Diablo 2 instead 4Head

I think I only started watching starcraft BW in like 2022 or so. I'm certainly no mega fan, but it can be pretty fun and ArtosisCasts goes into good detail about the games happening, and Tastosis cast of ASL is always really fun to watch. Before that I watched some SC2 and AoE2, but ultimately I settled on BW because I think the commentary is higher quality. Also AoE2 games can be very long, so it's a bigger time commitment to just watch even one game.

You just need to get 4 souls spawned together with no other souls spawned (or if there are too many, then kill them until there are 4) and then wait. Eventually they will start the ritual, and each complete cycle of spelling out letters nets you about 1400% mf. Any souls will do, including champions/uniques, or act5 souls in WSK etc, or act 3 souls in the great marsh and so on. Two rituals in 1.06 will force all non-unique monsters in hell to drop at least rare quality or better. This is the closest thing I have to a tutorial for it th-cam.com/video/r4z-ev3H5Yc/w-d-xo.html going into a bit more detail about how to set it up, rather than just doing it without explanation, but it doesn't really say much more than the paragraph above. Is there any particular information you're looking for about it?

It definitely takes some getting used to. As for me, I've played old versions for so long that now the modern sound is weird to me.

Nah it just goes to show games being released before they are finished isn't a new phenomenon :)

Both of those versions are quite tricky to grail in. And in fact, in 1.07 it is currently understood to be impossible to grail (windforce can't spawn). In 1.08 if you choose to use the infinite MF trick, grail will take a LONG time, and if you choose not to, grail will take multiple lifetimes of serious grinding :)

In 1.07 the Javazon is often considered best option for cow running, but some people prefer Static/Orb sorc. I personally don't run cows, so she's out. If there were a good reliable way to finish off LI/PI I think she would be best for pretty much everything. While it's not vanilla, there are several mods (eg PD2 quite popular, or Eastern Sun a pretty old mod) that still very much feel like Diablo 2, but add a lot of crafting options and customization for uniques etc, so you might try one of those out. I enjoyed Eastern Sun quite a bit, and haven't played PD2. And as I'm sure you've noticed from my videos, the demon killing aspect is like the lowest priority for me :D I play this game as an item generation simulator.

@@friendofjim Yeah, the dual immunities are such a blunder from the design point of view, there's nothing more enjoyable than being fully geared lvl99 character that not only cannot touch the enemies, but even needs to run away from them. This idea is so wrong, and as you already stated in one of your older videos (I binge them during the evenings), the devs kinda admited this by creating sunder charms. I never was into the mods, I only ever played one of them back in early 2000's. (The only thing that I remember is that the starting hint sounded smth like "quills for skills, skellies for pennies". I don't know why, but the unofficial stuff never really interested me, and I'm the guy that played a lot of user-made content for Panzer General II. Simply put, I want my D2 experience strict, otoh I like what you do with the game, freely enjoying whatever experience whatever version brings. Yep, you're not the most efficient speedrunner ever, but this is not why I like your stuff! I just realized that even your sound setting have a mellow quality, I think you turned off most of the audio, so now it's just the "wooooosh" of your barbarian whirling followed by an occasional "I am overburdened." Really kind atmosphere, nice juxtaposition to what this game is about. Btw, you got real talent to imitate the characters, I guess you played this game once or twice. ;-)

@@friendofjim Yep, you're right, it's shadowbanned for some weird reason, and I cannot figure it out what exactly makes the yt god so much stingy. This is a platform that promotes silly and dangerous pranks, yet it cannot stand an ugly word, or at least let me know which one exactly is much horrid. Looking forward to your next video!

I have a playlist where I show some of my best drops from 1.07 high council running, and if I shop anything it is included in there. In general, most of my videos end up with no good drops or purchases. When I finish collecting 522 rare rings in 1.06 I will be doing an identification video/stream, and also a "best of" highlight video showing just the good ones.

I spend way too much on the energy drinks, but I'll see if I can put something together some time in the next week for meals that are "ok this will suffice"-tier for me excluding the drinks (or maybe with some home-made fruity drink to replace the energy drink with). It will almost certainly be eating the same thing every day for a week.

My videos being ASMR-like wasn't my original intent, but once I started using them as a-day-in-my-life monologues I kind of figured some viewers would probably be watching them for that purpose, so as an ASMR enjoyer myself I'm glad it comes across that way for some people. I don't have a dog, it must have been someone outside letting their dog play in the lawn. My self discipline concerns were true regardless of my employment status. At work I work hard, at home I laze around. But it may seem I'm harder on myself than I am simply because of the duration that I talked about it or something like that. In my head the focus is more on a desire for positive change rather than a "wow I suck" attitude :p Coffee and tea I don't like, so I'll need to just replace the drinks with something I do like, or like I mentioned refill the cans with water which has worked somewhat in the past. And for the ring amulet vs armor, in general you are right and I wasn't really thinking. I was just hoping for an armor that got 25k when I realized how close I am to not be able to repair my gear.

Valk is nice for the 30frw/fcr/fhr, I also recommend wearing wizard spike on your 1.07 sorceresses it's very strong.

I don't know how early Lance can start dropping, but not every zone in hell will drop it even if it has high enough alvl. Each monster TC is limited to certain base items. You will notice when I run arcane they drop "heavy" armors like gauntlets, greaves, ornate plate, etc but never "light" armor types like quilted armor or chain boots. Arcane in hell *can* drop lance, but I think if you are trying to target farm that item base I would run full clears of act 4, or if you are able to self MP then run the cow king.

Thanks. I think it can be fun to explore the differences of various game versions like this, or for example deliberately exploiting 1.0 morrowind etc.

I have at least one of those. I roll at clvl19 (higher than optimal for that result) for the chance of a rare with fcr/mpk/mf/mf

I ended up with 10 fcr 21 mpk, which is good enough for hammerdin and javazon in the future to basically have limited mana concerns. I always play paladin at 125 and amazon at 99 because fcr is my favorite mechanic. Love static/forb in 1.07

Not yet. I'm mulling the idea of putting one together to show ultimate item goals and builds I want completed in which versions. I'll need some time off work to put that together though probably.

@@friendofjim Thanks. I want to do a playthrough on 1.0, but after watching a few of your videos I got the itch to do a couple different patches. The amount of rares on 1.06 doing the soul ritual is insane.

I never played D2R and also haven't used plugY except when it came with Eastern Sun mod, so I've not even played with anni and torch. Personally I don't like the graphics changes, but that could simply be "change bad" that I often default to. The gameplay changes seem fine to me, it's just that the versions I have is already enough (infinite grind doesn't need more added to it lol).

@@lemonke8132 I considered eastern sun to be so well done while sticking to the nature of the game that it could have been an official release expansion pack. Very good mod, highly recommend.

I'm glad you like it. I will probably continue uploading for a while because I have some very long term (years) Diablo 2 goals, and posting all my gameplay as youtube videos ensure that a) I continue making slow but steady progress and b) I don't grind too hard and burn out, since I'm limiting myself to about no more than thirty minutes per day.

I used trenshadow version switcher. In the past when I couldn't get it to work I bought a 1.00 disk off ebay, but that's not the install I'm currently using. The versions I have working continue to work, but if I try to enable more (1.08, 1.09b/d, 1.10a/s, etc) then I get crashing errors with no successful launch. I'll probably just try to get those working on a different pc "some day". If you decide to go the fresh 1.00 disk route, I recommend putting it on a different computer or partition. Having multiple diablo 2 directories will really screw with your file tree, and one version will try to load files from another (trenshadow works around this problem).

I've tried farming gems that way, but I could never get it to spawn gem shrine 100% of the time :/ Another method would be to get a paladin with maxed holy fire, or a sorceress with thunderstorm, and reroll maps until the first mob you kill through a waypoint drops a gem of your preferred color and then just run that forever.

@@friendofjim Anyway, it's probably more fun and efficient to run Trav since you have other yellows dropping and the amount of gems seems quite decent. I think I will get back to 1.00 sooner than I thought!

@@RED_VEX I'vr ran shrines in the past... in 1.07 farming exploding potions for 10+ hours before i knew i could just buy them in classic -_- trav definitely feels less tedious.

I've seen this recommended as a way to mule without losing the map, but I'm pretty set in my ways so I'm just going to reroll a map when I need to mule in general. And personally I'm not interested in duping as such, and would rather farm them all out manually, although I can definitely understand why some people might choose to cut corners for example if the infinite grind is not the part of the game that they consider to be fun :)

My scourge isn't even all that good :D they can get over 500% ed and things like +60 maximum damage, fools, etc.
