An unexpected surprise to see my old squadron's - VAL-4 - emblem on a flying OV-10.

I was stationed at Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson, Arizona, with the 23 TASS (Tactical Air Support Squadron). I was in the Air Force, but we had one OV-10 attached to a Marine unit. It was the last one to be relocated to the Yuma, Arizona, detachment unit. I was very fortunate to have seen it up close. I served from 1981 until I retired in 1989. The 23 TASS had OA-37B as FAC aircraft. They were all deactivated, and we got 12 OA-10 as replacements.

With all the mechanical engineering advanced nowadays I wonder if they can rebuild the motor to run it on exhibition...the fighter is too valuable to risk on flight...but to hear the motor running would be a privilege!!!!

I was a Flying Instructor at Souris ,Man., flying Ansons a Twin engine SFTS trainer in the RCAF in 1943/44. and we had a Harvard , the Canadian version of the PT6 which we used to keep our hand in on single engine aircraft. A great Aircraft. The following year I transferred to the Royal Navy Fleet Air arm and ended up flying he F4U Corsair. I must say that my experience on the Harvard stood me in good sted

Nice! I love the sound of the 9 cylinder radial as they manoeuvre. There's one at our local air field and the owners company takes people up for joy flights in it. I've gotta take a spin in it before I die. 😁👍🏼

My dad trained in the T-6 during Korean era at some airfield near Biloxi. I wish I could remember the name of his instructor... The guy flew the "Hump" during WWII and was apparently just the nicest person on the base.

Did you attend Parks College? I graduated in 74.

The AT-6 design was copied by the Japanese and turned eventually into the "ZERO" fighter. It had been lightened and had smaller fuel capacity in order to be agile And something about radial engine airplanes reminds me of Harley Davidson motorcycles...

The airplane that won the Battle of Midway!! They sunk 4 Japanese carriers, Kaga, Akagi, Soryu and Hiryu.....

It was arguably the best Naval Aviation fighter aircraft in the world at the time of it's deployment by the IJN through to 1943 and the US Navy employing Corsairs and Hellcats but even in those engagements pilots and tactics were likely the deciding factor over the aircraft. Later in the war the A6M still really only had the disadvantages of lower speed and durability to take damage compared to its US counterparts, but losing the speed advantage really meant they no longer controlled the engagement. The faster aircraft always has the option to fight or withdraw while the slower aircraft is always stuck in the fight until the enemy breaks off.

Aviation historians consider the P-26 to be a halfway point between WWI and WWII fighter planes.

the us was so unprepared and behind the curve when ww2 broke out in the late 30’s. the japanese were ripping around in the A6m zero and the germans had the ME-109’s, among other modern aircraft. while our boys were training in aircraft just barely more modern than the p26.

What a BEAUTIFUL restoration!!!!!!! And it flys!!!!!!! I've seen a b/w photo of a formation of these flying over the Corona area in 1934.
