Woods of ypres is a perfect friggn band. That album is stunning. Another mention that will make you feel a bunch of things. Shadow of Despair- Monotony Fields. Heart wrenching and also makes me feel happy for some reason.

Subliminal Genocide by Xasthur is peak DSBM for me, I've listened to that album so much when I was in a real dark place over a decade ago

not exactly metal but The Astonished Eyes of Evening by Cinema Strange is my halloween go to album.

Some great recommendations to check out! One I highly recommend is Mystification by Manilla Road (1987) It’s an exceptional USPM album with horror themed lyrics. A perfect listen for the season. Also to mention this album is dedicated to Edgar Allan Poe!

I have always liked that Staind album, great to see that it has been a while haha. Great collection update, a few I will check out.

Clicking just to see how much I disagree - right off the bat opiate the lowest, I hate you 😂 Undertow #1 Opiate #2 Aenima #3 - everything else whatever. Back half of Aenima you can tell exactly where tool fell off 😂

same ranking with the top 3 for me, just the bottom looks different. fi < opiate < 10000 really can't stand the new album. it starts interesting, the title song is cool and the final song is a beast. but in between it's either boring, repetitive or pretentious, lacking edge and detail, strong climatic moments and any degree of dangerousness the band was known for. not sure if i should blame AJ for avoiding spontanity, Keenan for singing too sweet or Joe Barressi for his fat, but far too clinical production.

Nice list. Trying to get into occult rock myself. However I'm trying to look for bands that don't sing about satanic stuff. I've already got bloody hammers, Jess and the ancient ones, and I recently downloaded psychedelic witchcraft and antonious rex.

One of my new favorite bm albums. And what a great review. You do a very good job of describing the details of the music as well as capturing its essence, way better than 90% of album reviewers on YT. And you’re right, I am definitely more of a progressive black metal guy vs traditional black metal. If you haven’t heard it, another amazing bm album I’ve recently discovered which fans of this album might like is Kanawha Black by Nechochwen

Dimmu are still active! I'm actually seeing them in a couple of weeks during the Inferno Festival in Oslo, which they are headlining.

Nice list - I find myself returning to Sky Void of Stars regularly - nice to see Primordial getting some recognition - surprisingly though the most listened to album for me released this year was Thurnin - Útiseta - acoustic dark folk. I tend to go to the more mellow end of the musical spectrum for my bus ride home from work and this hit the spot.

Nice list! Definitely some bands I need to check out, like Austere and Wolves in the throne Room. Difficult to keep up with all the releases. Can you please put the names of the bands in the video description, or in the future, in the video itself, because it's hard to know how some bands spell their names and the album covers are not much help lol.. not when it comes to black metal and their impossible band logos :D
