Newsflash: Stories That Stopped the World
มุมมอง 494K10 ปีที่แล้ว
Documentary about various news stories in history, the stories behind them, and how they were reported. This has been uploaded for educational purposes, and because it cannot be found anywhere else. Credit, copyright, rights etc all belong to ITV... for what it's worth.

excellent documentary and thanks very much for uploading it
Almost 10 years on how many of us still turned to the bbc when it was announced that The Queen had died
The shower ident is my favourite ident of this set of Granada idents. That and the goldfish ident. I love them so much.
2:59 Not the first time I've heard a bit of the Yorkshire Ident on Granada. Must've been a semi-common occurrence back in the late 90s.
2:00 Nicky Campbell: Does prevent control on certain types of kni---- [Freezes]
3:10 Welcome back now we've been out there for a few minutes A but---- (Freezes)
Martin lewis said we kept faith with diana which some of us did after she was discarded by her husband.
2:21 Mad Max 3:16 Nice Star Wars inspired Ident. 3:30 The train ident would have been ideal for Thomas the Tank Engine. My aunt has worked on Granada Television.
Kyle and who?
5:41 Yorkshire Television used this ident too.
Looks like an ACR-25 cart misbehaving to me. It's definitely Quad based, but momentarily tries to cue backwards in vision. The colour bars are I believe what the fallback signal was from the cart machine.
I have actually seen the original prop used for the "Shower" ident. Yes, it was an actual thing. Not just CGI
Where at?
The Christmas 1999 idents sound suspiciously similar to the 2003 UK(TV) Gold idents. It's actually the exact same sound, pitched down.
You should do more ident compilations, such as Carlton and Central idents.
Love island is much better than this
Today’s kids don’t know what they’re missing do they?
This is much worth finding!
was this made by LWT ?
Granada. But they owned LWT by this point, and it was filmed at the south bank studios.
This is fab and thank you for the credit. Despite living in the Granada region, I can’t remember half of these. Whilst they look good here, in the context of the time they felt a bit of a poor imitation of what BBC2 was doing. And towards the end of this period, you mostly got short mute versions so they could align the announcements across the northern regions. I seem to remember the one with the guy scraping the ice off was on all the time…
I've always wondered what the background was supposed to be in the "ice scrape" ident. Never could figure that out....
The Space Station one also makes me think of the opening titles of Red Dwarf - and they did visit the Coronation St. set in later episodes.
They were produced by BBC North West!
Was the Rocket logo in tribute to Wallace & Gromit's A Grand Day Out? The Football one was also similar to Channel 4's American Football logo.
anyone have the fingerprint ident that is taking me back
Ah the memories !!
National lottery ❤😮😮😮😮
the cause was a safety device thtat caused the machine to malfunction probably the service door thtat caused it had to delay about 50 minutes a tiny microswitch was activated
0:17 HOUSTON, WE HAVE A PROBLEM!!!!
This occurred, because there was a thunderstorm near the ITV studios in London, so I would presume CITV ITV 4 ITV 2, ITV 3 and ITV Be would be affected
I remember where I was when Queen Elizabeth died
It's weird for me seeing an ITV channel advertising what's on channel 4. 😂
1:02 it off air
Guinevere, the machine jammed. So drawing was later than planned. From Joe. X

42:35 The biggest breaking news story of her career _so far_ ...
Interestingly, 3 of the talking heads here would go on to announce the Queen's Death. Dermot for Sky, Mary for ITV and Alistair for GB News.
I VIVIDLY REMEMBER THIS
must've been the thunderstorm overseas
Dec going at it alone for the only time in his BGT career and this is how they repaid him

Who made these Party/Ministerial/Prime Ministerial broadcasts? Would the PSBs take it in turn from the BBC/Thames to avoid bias, or made and played down the line from Soho from somewhere like Molinaire? A rare example of indie-produced programming back then if so.
This actually occured due to a thunderstorm that happened near the broadcasting studio
Philip Elsmore and Redvers Kyle; two TV legends together for the first time!
Amazing piece of television, Bob really was the master
