Bill Mayes Memorial Service
Camp Deerwoode, in Brevard, North Carolina, was established in the 1920's and at various times was a summer camp for girls and a camp for boys. Bill Mayes was the owner/creator of the final incarnation from 1967 until it closed in 1991. Bill's passion was to teach personal responsibility, physical fitness, and a hard-work ethic to thousands of boys and young men. This is a celebration of his life and appreciation for what he accomplished.
The land that was Camp Deerwoode is a stunningly beautiful valley nestled between the French Broad River and Sugarloaf Mountain. It is available to everyone as The Deerwoode Reserve.

Middle Schooler Phil Stuart sings Mambo No. 5 at Crackers Bar and Grill, Crystal River Florida in the summer of 2000. The show was hosted by his dad, Tim. Tim discovered this tape tucked away in a storage bin and presumes it was recorded by Tim Trygar of Crystal River.

This was live-streamed by WDVK-FM out of my hometown, Knoxville, Tennessee. All the members of the band work in the medical field and Rob composes all their songs. My sister, Alice, is the cellist. In real life, she is a Nurse Practitioner, and has been with the Knoxville Symphony for over 35 years. This is only one song, "Fire" from their set.

This is a relatively short video illustrating my creation of a side-bending jig for constructing Appalachian Mountain dulcimers. I made the video to accompany the Houghton Mifflin 2nd grade Science textbook, Unit 2 Technology and Our World. As a woodworker and dulcimer builder, I wanted to show my 2nd grade students the Design Process (as introduced in their textbook) in a real-world application.

Camp Deerwoode in Brevard, N.C. closed as a summer camp in 1991, but owner Bill Mayes still has a passion for physical fitness. Here, he explains his aerobics exercise program which incorporates much of the philosophies of the PC Program that he developed for the camp. The 10-10-2 Program (Ten reps for 10 exercises in 2 minutes for the arms, core, and legs) will touch every muscle of the body.
