Brock XU1 Torana racing Skope 2018
Listen to the sound of an amazing 202 XU1 race car chew up the field from the back of the grid. Pity it ran out of fuel on the last lap as you will see. The 202 holden shouldn't make sound and power like this.
Doesn't handle too bad either. ( Good old M21 4-speed)

202 XU1 on street DOT tyres.. fights Porsche on slicks... to win last race of the weekend. Timaru Raceway in South Island of New Zealand. Holden LSD diff is worn out so traction in & out of corners is slack to say the least. Will fix for next time... Has this baby got muscle ? 4 Speed gets a hammering ! 7700RPM in top gear.
Not bad..but get your self set right, belts, helmet, goggles etc. Before the off! Anything that takes your mind or hand off the wheel after that..weell.....
Never underestimate a Holden 6.
Nice.
Great drive mate. Coming through the pack nothing like the sound of a 202 7000+ revs just curious to know was that helmet annoying you whilst driving. I just noticed you pulling down on the helmet every now and again.
I mean seriously, his only competition was maybe one of the 260Zs, or the rotaries, but otherwise he had no competition whatsoever. This was like releasing a cat amongst the pigeons, and I've be a Torana man all my life. I had an LC 253 Auto than eventually put a 327 4-speed in it.
How did you get it to stop? LCs and LJs had diabolically bad brakes, at least from factory (AMHIK)...
I know that drivers style. I’ve seen him before in a Holden.
Shit 186 fully balanced with a turbo on each Weber
The best of a 186
Buillt for speed. Blue print and turbo
Sounds awesome. Wow, you made that look hard. I don't know how long you've been driving it for but it looked like your first run. Get your helmet fixed, you spent more time fixing it than changing gears. It's a 4 speed box......use them all. 2nd is not there as an optional extra. Thanks for the clip I sure lived the sound of it.
Olay Olay Olay Olay, Sennaaaaaaa, Sennaaaaaaaaa
The push pull steering like a bus is painful to watch. The non breaking then full breaking though the corner so it under steers isn’t making use of the lack of power from the 6 cylinder engine. It should be between 6-8k all the time it’s a race car.
S'noice! Sounds like a 3.08 or maybe a 3.55 diff in this for the day. Defo not the 2.77 Bathurst diff. I ran my LC S-Coupe on the road with a 3.08 diff whilst Dad ran his LC X-U1 with the 2.77 ... I could never ever touch him outside the first 150 mtrs off the lights...not that we'd ever drag each other from the lights around Penrith and St. Mary's... Dad preferred preferred to keep his racing on the 1/4mi ovals; but he might have put me in my place once or twice 😎🍻.
You forget how small the interior of these things is
People fail to realise this is a 186/202 ci passenger car motor ! In factory race trim it sat from nearly 7000 rpm for 7 to 9 hours up and down Bathurst, a mountain ! Watching the little Holden six round up 3.1 litre Ford Capris RS 3100 s ( not a easy task they were very fast) is mind blowing , hearing it rev and not break down , it seemed like it could have gone 2000 rpm higher ! This little engine beat 351 Clevelands 4V steel cranked Cleveland's, it beat 350 Ho Chevs and 360 Chryslers ! And won ! From a little non cross flow straight six ! It punched well above its weight !
According to Harry Firth and Peter Brock the XU-1 was driven at Bathurst at 6500rpm, 72 was a wet race where the little Torana had the advantage aswell as less stops for fuel..73 in Group C the XU-1 ran with Webber Carby's but same principle of 6500rpm for economy was used but famously known now that Doug Chivas revved it harder in his stint resulting in the famous pit lane push
@@liamdunn6098 yes but many times it over ran espically down Bathurst , there is in car shots of them bouncing past 8 .
@@JosephCowen-fz8vjsure mate.
@@joshiek7839 yeah for sure ! What you have trouble with Aussie history ? If words are too hard 😭, there's lost of vids on this platform showing race footage !
@@JosephCowen-fz8vj keep believing your fantasy of of pushrod motors doing in 8000rpm in an age when valve springs where chocolate tea pots. Never mind the bottom end balance issues that Holden six’s have. lol
A 6 cylinder crammed into a 4 cylinder body , an absolute weapon ! I miss our home grown cars , now all we have is whitegoods .
Bring back the Torana!
I think the Bathurst track would look a lot better ? But thanks for showing anyway ?
Loved it absolutely awesome vid ! Put a smile on my face from the start and made me wish I still had my Torana..
11 minutes with goosebumps and a stupid grin 😃
My old Kingswood never sounded like that........
No power steering drum brakes maybe
Nah it had discs on the front , 250 mm i believe.
Beautiful just beautiful sound
Could EASILY pull a 5th gear . Years since I have heard a 202 running that hard . Although a fairly basic Lump , they were a GREAT Engine .
nice nice nice
Why is this XU-1 faster than it should be? It distorts "historic" racing when you get cars that are 50% more powerful than the HDT Toranas ever were. That engine has to be 325bhp at the flywheel. The factory cars were about 225bhp. It's not an XU-1 and that's not the sound of an XU-1. It's a "special" or Group B sports sedan that looks like a touring car.
This car has all the upholstery..including new hood lining.. headlights and indicators etc.. it has a holden gearbox and diff.. 15in wheels as well so small brakes. Did a 12.3 quarter mile and went through finish in 3rd gear at 115mph. Needs a lower diff to do good drag times !
Not hard to see how brock won bathurst in 73😁
I bet he’d love a fifth gear.
Hahaha see that R32 just fly straight to the front like it was nothing 😂
Great car, not a bad driver either 😆👍.
Senna flogging a 202 XU-1, fabulous!
That was my last Skope classic in the Mk1 Broadspeed Escort even though I had a300 hp cosworth the Torana took me with ease at the hairpin corner, now retired from competition motor sport but always will love the Skope weekend, also Phil McNabb’s mk2 Zackspeed is no slug same Motor as mine. Great memories.
Awesome sound, its on song . Music to my ear
Back when racing cars were racing cars. There just a joke these days. Brocky would turn in his grave if he seen what it’s become.
Sounds GREAT.
super worked 202 ,low down grunt out of the corners and revs out super good ,must have been a smart dude who put this together, sounds sweeeeeet as,
Awesome, Sounds amazing, and goes like a Rocket!! Tightest M21 Ive ever seen! My 3rd car was an Xu-1 spec LC Coupe, was an awesome machine, there was nothing you couldn't do in that car.
I agree! That shifter has been blueprinted. They were never that solid.
@@WascallyWabbittit’s got a dog box in it.
Su's or webers?
My first car was a Torana S 173ci 6. What a great car it was, I always wanted an XUI of course.
Awesome XU 1
Got the gearing smack bang on,I miss the sound of a red on full song 👍👍
Sounds awesome ultimate man toy
That thing is fast
Never ever had an aussie 4 speed shifter work that well. 2nd to 3rd and back to 2nd never ever worked that well. Love to know what breed of shifter is used here 😊

I owned 2 LJ GTR TORANAS , BOTH 202 , AWESOME CARS
An xui that thinks its a formula 1 ! Love it. 👍
