HAAM provides access to affordable health care for Austin’s low-income working musicians, with a focus on prevention and wellness. We keep Austin music alive and well.
HAAM Member Stories: Nicole Quinn
For more than half of her life, HAAM member Nicole Quinn lived with pain, fatigue, dizziness, and other debilitating symptoms. Uninsured, she accrued “a Lamborghini’s worth of medical debt” but no diagnosis.
A few months after joining HAAM in 2022, the newly insured Houston native and self-described Indie Neo-Folk Singer-Songwriter attended her first HEAR Clinic sponsored by Estes Audiology. That short visit led to the medical diagnosis that Nicole had been waiting years to receive. During Nicole's hearing exam, her audiologist found a concerning abnormality and referred her to a specialist. A few weeks later, Nicole was diagnosed with Meniere's disease, a rare inner ear disorder.
Finally having a name for her collection of symptoms and a treatment plan to alleviate the worst of them set Nicole on the path to recovery, both physical and emotional.
“My disease is not going to go away. But when you have information, you can do something about it. Before my diagnosis, I was walking around blindly and suffering silently. My career stalled,” she said. “Now I am surrounded by a supportive team of healthcare providers and am getting my career back on track. HAAM made all of this possible.”
Nicole experienced another health setback in 2023 that required major surgery. Although she had insurance through HAAM, she couldn’t afford the out-of-pocket costs of the procedure. HAAM connected Nicole to Sofaburn, a nonprofit started in part by a former HAAM member who was involved in a tragic car accident that killed his bandmates.
Sofaburn not only helped Nicole pay the out-of-pocket expenses for her surgery, they helped her reduce her previous medical debt from a Lamborghini to a compact sedan!

Feeling stronger every day, Nicole takes full advantage of the wide range of health and wellness services HAAM offers all of its members. She enjoys a discounted Greater Austin YMCA membership and gets hearing exams regularly. She received her first pair of glasses following a free vision exam and has used her HAAM dental benefits to address some long-standing issues.
Because Nicole was able to work with HAAM to get her health back on track without medical debt, she was able to release new music in 2024!

Huge crockett fan I got all his albums. Just wanted to say "Fool Somebody Else" off the hard times album sounds so much better on the vinyl. The harpsichord sounds insane.

This is not the kind of music I listen too, but I enjoy Charlie Crockett. This is related to a place I know: San Benito, TX.
Really enjoying Charley's music. It sounds cliché but he really does have a unique style. I really like the idea of HAAM. How many artists have suffered or given up touring entirely because it was just too hard on their health. We all know how expensive health care in America is and any help could save somebodies life.
