October 2023 Ozark Overland Adventure Trail west to east
The first overlanding trip for all of us. Two of us are friends. The other two joined us after a Facebook post looking for others to join us. We wheeled days 4, 3, and 2 from west to east on the Ozark Overland Adventure Trail. Water was low. Weather was spectacular. A fantastic route. Tip: when you see a mudhole and a bypass right next to it, take the bypass unless you want to play in the mud and with your recovery gear. Also, if there is a minefield of mudholes, look for a bypass, there may be one nearby. #treadlightly @OzarkOverlandAdventures #ozarkoverlandadventuretrail

Hot Weather Hiking Boots Oboz Bridger Vent Mid and Sawtooth II non-bdry and Merrell Moab Ventilator
มุมมอง 12K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Hiking boots in warm weather can be HOT!! Waterproof barriers like Gore-Tex (R) hold heat in and make boots hotter. This video discusses my first impression pros and cons of three non-goretex boots. Merrell Moab 2 Ventilator (non-waterproof) Oboz Sawtooth II Mid (non-waterproof) Oboz Bridger Mid Vent (non-waterproof) 2022 update: the Bridger Mid Vent is no longer available. Try these other non-...

Had Merrill's for years, just purchased and had my first hike with the Oboz Bridger...what a difference. If these boots hold up like think they will, I won't buy any other boot.

How much is the pack your carrying?

I assume you are asking about volume. It is a seasonal decision. In the height of the summer, about a 20l. Winter conditions require more gear and I go with a 40l

Just got the Oboz Sawtooth Mid. Now time to sign up for a casual hiking group. Keeping it light. Don't know if I can handle the intense pace and steep switchbacks like I did some years ago. Out of practice and significantly older.

One of the best boots I have bought did not agree. Sounded like he was trying to prove that he knew something.

Sorry to say, as of 1-18-2022, looks like Oboz has discontinued the Bridger Vent Mid :( Looks like I'll have to update this video when its time to buy my next pair of hot weather boots.

Really sucks as the Bridger Vent was an excellent boot. My pair is due for replacement.

@@hVSjRJ53 #oboz was very helpful when I was trying to understand the difference between the Bridger and Sawtooth. You may want to call them to ask for their recommendation. Please post what you land on for your replacement!

I live and hike in the eastern Sierra Mountains which are covered in hard granite rocks and gravel. As much as I love wearing Merrell Moabs I have concluded they are 4 hour hiking shoes at best. After that time period the soles of my feet are thrashed and my ankles are strained. I have been checking out Oboz at my local REI but did not come across the Bridger. I will have to look again. Thanks for the info

Thanks for commenting. Good luck on the search! I’d hate for Oboz to discontinue the Bridger and have to go through all this again!!

Thanks for the heads up on availability of the Bridger Vent. It is unfortunate they have been discontinued by Oboz. If you know your size (and these do run true to size), it looks like EMS.com still has them in stock. I can vouch for them as a great source for gear. They are based in NH and have been around forever! Good luck! Post up what your land on as your choice.

Thanks very much. I’m in UT with the 4 seasons. Hot Danners for winter don’t do well in summer. I really appreciate the in depth look of pros and cons at summer boots. Thanks again

Thanks for the support! I was out in Zion, Bryce, and Moab last summer. Y’all get some heat! The Oboz did great in that heat.

Great video. I love the lightness of moab boots, but have struggled with injury carrying packs, which I put down to lack of lateral rigidity. Will definitely try out the bridgers. Thanks again

Thanks for watching and the feedback. Good to see I’m not the only one not feeling the Moab hype. Keep on hiking!

Thank you for sharing what you have learned. It is tough getting good info on all the various boots. I found this helpful.

Completely agree with your comments on Merrill Moab - super comfortable but torture on the soles of your feet on rocky terrain.

I got those boots(Merrell's Moab) I love them but I would not take them for long hiking periods. I also got the Oboz Sawtooth II low non waterproof, love them very rugged and sturdy those I would take on long periods of hiking, I don't like waterproof boots, shoes, and my Oboz was never soft like yours they are actually the most rigid pair of shoes that I have and let me tell I got plenty. I own Salomon Quest, Merrell (4), Danner (2), Vasque(3), Diemme, Oboz, Keen (5), Vasque (2) Asolo...so I know my boots. Keen is the one I would wear in hot weather .
