    Thank you for doing this research. I bought an SN850X 2TB to replace mine as well from this, but I would be wary with using double sided drives even if it does fit, as I used to run a Zephyrus G14 and tested with 4TB drives (double sided) and killed three on accident not realizing what was happening from killing the chips on the inside of the machine vs the thermal padded chips on the outside. Keep an eye on it as best you can! Cheers.

    Question: Do you know if it supports XGS-PON modules like the Zyxel PM7000-01 XGS-PON SFP+ Transceiver? Mikrotik seem to only do ocmpatibility testing with their own stuff, but state if its MSA compliant, then there should be no issues. I haven't managed routers for 15 years so feel I am noob level again.

    As a networking pro, what do you think about the incoming ban of TP-Link routers in the US? FUD, or is there something to it? I went all-in on their Omada ecosystem (24-port 2.5g switch, software controller, multiple APs) for my homelab, and now reading these news makes me nervous.

      @Dmitriy.0@Dmitriy.0 Honestly seeing the attacks on my network was eye opening. Something out there was hammering my network with thousands of attempts over a five minute timeline before I took action. I think that TP-Link has a large enough market share that they got a target placed on them. I am still using the deco wifi but I have greatly increased my network security with better passwords and locking down anything but physical access for control. To summerize I still like the TP-Link hardware but I am going to be more mindful going forward.

    I personally started with Ubiquity, then got a Mikrotik switch and I moved to other Mikrotik devices and 4G LTE Outdoor routers. SWOS was easy and RouterOS took me about 2-months until have a better understanding. As more Fiber Internet companies offer Fiber only, and speeds keep creeping up as well as cost, the equipment will need to be in place to handle these speeds at a cost we can afford.

    If mikrotik hired some gui designer and threw a modern looking UI on their router they'd bring more people in. It doesn't have to be as dumbed down as Ubiquiti but I do feel people get immediately turned off with the 1980s interface and don't give it a chance.

    I'm putting together a DL580 g9 also, and I'm curious if you've ever come across any documentation on what exactly the "reverse air flow" cable for the M60 is.. Is it just a peculiarly named power cable? I've got a bunch of K40s I'd like to stick in it but they're a little too high in TDP to get four of them (like 20 watts each) 😟 Thanks for an informative look regardless. Much appreciated.

    • @mr_jarble
      @mr_jarble 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There are a handful of k40 models and most of them are closer to 250w each so I am not sure what you are referring to about 20 watts? I am currently running four 4070 supers in here with no issues. As for the reverse airflow on the M60 I assume you are referring to part 869724-B21? That part is if you need a back to front flow rather than front to back so a fairly nich use case. All that to say I would have zero hesitation running a full six dual slot cards in here. The server has airflow for days if you can put up with the sound. So either your ears or the power delivery is going to tap out long before cooling is a issue.

    • @BadStoryDan
      @BadStoryDan 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mr_jarble They're the k40m variant. They're 245 watts, which is 20 watts more than the 225 watts per card needed to get 4 of them in according to the manual (900w total).

    • @BadStoryDan
      @BadStoryDan 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    • @mr_jarble
      @mr_jarble 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @BadStoryDan I believe the bus limit is 1200w, assuming you are running n+n power configuration. In production, I have produced a load greater than 2000w on my unit. I don't specifically remember the 900w limit you are referring to in the service documents, but it has been a moment since I was digging in them.

    • @mr_jarble
      @mr_jarble 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @BadStoryDan I did a bit of digging on that m60, and honestly, I am not sure. The heatsink is a bit different than modern high airflow cards, so that could be the reason, but I can't be sure.

  • @c1nema1
    @c1nema1 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I got two of these servers myself now. Awesome machines. But i do have the problem that the fans spin at 43% minimum with no apparent reason. The sensor driving the fans that high is 13 "HD-Max" which always reads a constant 50C (and caution level is 60C so makes sense the fans go up a bit). But if i disable the sensor from being included Fan % calculation (fan t 13 off) the HD controller (35) will go up very quickly to uncomfortable temperatures. Is it possible to know what exact changes you did? Would help a lot!

    • @mr_jarble
      @mr_jarble 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@c1nema1 on mine the highest is the controller. I know most guides recommend killing sources like you did but I took on the problem a different way. As my server is primarily a GPU server running at full load I looked at it from that perspective. I put the server under 100% load and started bringing the fans down till sensors started climbing and made that my floor. So in my case the sensor that started heating up first was the 35-HDD controller so I was able to set the fans up with the command fan p (00 through 03) max 95. This resulted in a stable configuration with my maximum temperature being that number 35 with a temp of 68c and a caution at 100c so plenty of headroom. The major note here is this doesn't provide a doomsday environment where external factors caused more heat than full load so if your external environment could produce heat beyond this and cause dangerous temperature then this might not be the solution.

    So I’m in the market for a new mesh system the TP link deco is what I’m going to buy just not sure on to buy be33000 or be22000 I know one’s a quad band and one’s a try band right now they’re both on sale only $100 difference between the two which one would you go for and is the quad band necessary or is one of those bands only for wireless backhaul and not wired backhaul

    • @mr_jarble
      @mr_jarble 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you are planning on a wired backhaul they should have nearly identical performance. While the unit can use all four bands it is very hard to find a client device that also supports this. Maybe in a few months as more client devices hit the market it could play a larger role but for now I would not really worry to much about the tri vs quad band.

      The internal network is 100gbps for all communications between my servers. The link to the outside world is 1gbps symmetrical. Thanks for the kind words! I have done some additional clean up after this video so it looks even better now.

    I was looking at Wi-Fi routers and your video came up on my TH-cam feed and just a quick question for you. Does the TP link deco 95 for the quad band? Use both 6 GHz or is it usually only use one as a wireless backhaul if you’re using it as Wireless. The reason why I’m asking is because I’m going to do a wired backhaul so I didn’t know if I needed to go spend that much and I could’ve got a lower model.

    • @mr_jarble
      @mr_jarble 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wired backhaul is temperamental in the current firmware but when it is working I was able to peak over 3 gigabit on a wireless device using the wired backhaul. In talking with support they are actively working on a firmware update to resolve this and a few other small issues as well.

    Im finally moving away from my R720 going to build this time on epyc. Just can't decide if i should stick to milan/rome or go ahead and start on a low end genoa for the upgrade path. Rome would probably be fine for me for years but its hard not going genoa and getting 10 years out of a build.

    • @mr_jarble
      @mr_jarble ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have it in the budget I would go for the Genoa because as you said it could stretch a bit further. I am totally sold on the Epyc line up as they are just amazing processors. For me the Rome was the right balance of cost vs performance where as Genoa really has not hit the second hand market just yet so msrp is a bit out of my reach.

      When I built this I intended to have this host everything from files to compute. But that was overly optimistic so I pivoted to create many specialized servers for each task. Meaning that this file server has way more CPU power than needed but I already have the hardware so no harm in running it.

    Hey I’m a complete newbie when it comes to this stuff. To preface my interests and potential future applications: I’m looking to get into computer science and probably IT as a career. I just wanted to inquire about what you use this behemoth of a setup for if you don’t mind me asking? I’m looking to build one for home use. Mainly to create a file server for personal use with my family, friends, and people I’m working with. I also plan to host bots for a video game along with software that my friend made for a video game. I have some ideas when it’s come to future applications I’d like to build and I would plan on using this to host. The list goes on but I’ll top it off as a hub to host multi media, like totally licenses movies for family and myself which I guess would integrate into a very very small botched home theatre setup. Thank you so much for your time if you read this. If you have any resources on where to start as well that would be much appreciated. Part of me also just wants a beast like your system!;) I’m willing to dump my 2x 4090’s, night vision, and some rifles along with misc tech to fund this project. Thank so in advance. -Chris

      Hey thanks so much for the comment. To answer your main question this particular server is for video rendering and image stacking task. For me a big part of this processes was wanting to learn so things are not fully optimized for the task at hand but rather what I could learn at the time. Also there has always been part of me that wanted to run a monster and this ticked that particular box quite nicely. If you are into computer engineering and want to learn old hardware is a great place to start. I have found that even in my current role building these servers has helped me grow. For what you are wanting to do, take a look at my other server, the 256TB file server, as it would be a much better data and hosting environment. The only thing it does not do is high powered gpu compute. It is newer more efficient hardware (same number of cores) running nearly twice as fast at a quarter of the power. The nice thing for me is that this is all e-waste so find what you are looking for and wait for it to pop up on ebay for a good price and bingo you have a server that can do anything without breaking the bank.

      This thing has two modes: tolerable and holy hell that's loud. Most of the time, it is tame and is not bad, noise wise, but you kick off an all core workload or something that pulls a lot of power and expect to need hearing protection.

    Looking forward to your full review, im in the market for a new router, and I am tempted by the deco, but it's a good chunk of change and i wanna make sure im getting a workhorse and not a headache, the 10gb ports are definitely interesting and seem like they could futureproof my network for quite some time.

      I continued to daily drive this and it has been a workhorse for me. My only two gripes are the fan and the instability on power loss. The latter I put down as mostly the complexity of my network but it would be nice to not have to mess with it if the power goes out.

I’ve not gone deep into the configuration of the system as it was very simple to switch out my spectrum router and switch to a be95. Now I am starting to find that i have to click on the “Network Optimization” feature once every two days and sometimes it will just spend and hang on wi-fi interference . Sometimes i’ll be browsing facebook and it the site will just stop and i don’t know why. I have a cat6 cable connecting two units. I”m still investigating before i call deco
