So Chloe thought that I was not doing a very good job and decided to show me how its done... We fly fished for tilapia and had a little competition. I used my Echo Lift 3wt fly rod and Chloe used the Temu 6 foot Tenkara rod. Lets just say that the result was very surprising. So how did Chloe do? Please give Chloe a like and comment... .I did a quick Tenkara fly fishing session at Doordekraal Dam, near Cape Town, South Africa for bass, carp, tilapia and big bluegill. I used a Nissan professional Kawashi 380 Tenkara rod and 4X tippet with a variety of small streamers and nymphs. Mistakes where made, but I did manage to land a few awesome bluegill... #capetown #fishing #tenkara #doordekraaldam #flyfishing #bassfishing #carponfl...

My wife and I absolutely love eating thef, head off,try it,you will not believe the flavour!
Awesome video So can gulp be used as a bait substitute?
Yes. I went Lrf fishing yesterday at Harbour Island and caught Pinky, gnome fish, white stumpnose and gobies on the gulp and white steenbras, zebra fish, blacktail, gurnards etc on other trips there. Then Hottentot, roman, fransmadam, white musselcracker at Kalk Bay harbour...Its great stuff. You can see it in action on my LRF videos...
@ super awesome, thank you for the info , I love light tackle fishing and now I don’t have to handle smelly bait . Where do they stock gulp sand worm? Happy fishing Just found your channel yesterday Subscribed
@@AS-up3rf Thanks for subscribing, means a lot. Most of the tackle shops stock Berkley Gulp Sandworms. I bought mine at The fishing specialists in Brackenfell... Its not cheap but I put mine in a sealed container along with the juice it comes with and it lasts forever.... I only use a tiny piece on the hook and often cut the worm thinner. Don't put a piece of worm that you used back in the container...Hope this helps and may the fish be with you...
There are a lot of fish there🐟 Nice video and have a good day my friend.

Well done Chloe, Sean doesn't stand a chance.
Tenkara fishing is so awesome...
Loads of fun! Do you use a light sliding sinker inline with your hook? What is the size of the hook and the weight of the sinker?
Hi. Yes it is loads of fun. I generally use a "drop shot rig" with a #20, #14 or #12 hook depending on size of fish. . Sinker is generally 7grams or heavier if the sea is rough. For the smaller species or klipfish, I will first tie on the hook and then pinch a split shot ,10cm above the hook. Hope this helps
Hi Sean, I enjoyed from video 🙂 Have a great weekend
@@ShragaMiFishingForTheSoul Thanks so much. Shalom
Your videos are realy realy interesting. You must go and try there in zandvlei.Wil be interesting to se what species comes out there
Hi Sean love the videos. Would like to get into drop shot again. Tried it a few years ago but nothing. Have you any advice where to go for edibles please. Also lures of choice. Thanks
Hi. I love fishing Berkley Gulp sandworm because just about everything eats it. I also fish a lot of medium and small curly tail grubs. As for spots, Kalk bay harbour and harbour Island can be great. Strand area can also produce some nice fish.
Hi Sean, great video with the underwater footage 👌 have a great day
Shalom, thank you my friend
Thanks for the videos Sean. I am new to LRF and I learn something new from every video you post. I need to move my rod tip a bit more. The guy who I'm talking to here on the Isle of Man fishes very static and that's what I've been doing. Going to try the new tricks soon. Hope the wind stays away tomorrow.
Cool Roland. I also noticed from dropping the camera down that some areas had more fish than others, so it pays to move around and try different spots. May the fish be with you.
Wow, loads of fish there hey. Glad you managed to get out.

Looked like a really fun session, loved the variety. Nice video 🙂
Thanks man. It was great to connect with some new species...
Seeing this now makes me realise what a gem you have there in those rivers. I am exploring here next season like a mad man. The Isle of Man has some fantastic rivers and I don't think the guys fish them proper as they all claim there are only small brownies so they don't explore.
I just have to say this. I'm very glad to see you also reel in with your right hand. Debs and I went to the local tackle shop here and he asked me to bring in some of our rods and reels so he could see the different styles we use in SA. I tookabout 5 rods and reels in and he was blown away. The best part was when he asked me to help him spool a reel and I put the reel on for right hand reeling..... I swear I saw his eyes twitch and a tick appear at the corner of his mouth. He could not get over the fact that our whole family reel in right handed. He said he could not look at me as it was so wrong. Weird fellow ;-)
LOL... I cast left so its makes sense for me to reel in with the handle on the right. I fly cast with my right hand though...
Thanks, Sean. Nice vid. You are not even having to hide or stand back a bit. Those blighters are just grabbing the lure
They be hungry fish...
Another great and enjoyable LRF session 🙂 You have a lot of species there

Thanks my friend, can't let you have all the fun.
Great XUL session my friend. I'm also using XUl tackle for tiny/micro fish. It's more difficult to catch those micro fish then regular size fish. Love it
@@ShragaMiFishingForTheSoul Thank you so much. Shalom.
We seriously need to stand together as anglers with some kind of conscience and get rid of the smallmouth and largemouth bass and trout in the rivers.
I hear you but a lot more complicated than you might think. Also trout are not a problem for redfins, smallmouth bass are. There was literally a 17inch trout swimming amongst the redfins. The Krom river is full of redfins and trout and they have co existed for years. Wherever there are smallmouth bass, the redfins disappear.
@@SeanMillsFishing I know it's a complicated issue, Sean, and it's one which needs resolving whichever way we choose to look at it. Any bass freak like myself knows they eat everything in the water they can possibly fit into their mouths. My experience has taught me though that trout, especially larger trout, don't miss any opportunity to grab minnows either. I once operated a commercial fish farm, and cookie cutter trout (rainbows which I hatched from eggs) gobbled up any canary kurper they could get (I had a pond full of them too - in those days I decided to use them as food for the bass and trout on the farm), and they were raised on a mix of pellets and worms (I had a worm farm too lol). Canaries of up to palm size were taken by the 0.3-05 kg stockies. Browns are notorious for eating their own fingerlings and the larger ones are actively piscivorous. I found over the years that the larger rainbows too, stand out from the crowd when they become cannibals in the hatchery and grow on ponds. So though the rainbow you saw passed up a free meal while you were there, chances are he came back for a quick takeaway later on. Coming from a childhood on the shores of Lake Ontario in Canada where I was raised with a rod in my hand and then having lived in SA for most of my life and fishing for bass on a strictly catch and release basis for quite a few years now, I had to make a hard decision when faced with the brutal reality of what bass, carp and trout are doing to biodiversity in the region. So now I am a strict catch and keep angler instead, and I urge all fellow anglers to follow suit - if everyone removed a few alien invader species each season, the problem would be greatly resolved. People just don't seem to get it - if we all turn a blind eye to imbalances caused by human agencies, especially when it comes to freshwater resources and again, biodiversity, which these fish destroy - they never belonged in the waterways of this country - then we can only blame ourselves at the inevitable result. Anyway thank you for bringing the redfins into the limelight - the fact they are still around means they deserve it.
👍
Thanks so much
Nice. Do you just cast and let it lie still or do you give it some action?
I do both, depends on what they want. The movement will often perk their interest but they will actually eat the lure when it is stationary.

Where did you buy the rod from ? Because I am looking for a light setup for the cape streams because I have a 5wt setup now and I struggle with the smaller flies ons that setup
Hi. The rod is about 12 years old. I built it from an Xplorer blank. I have an Echo Lift 3wt now that Stream X stock's. Really well priced and great for Cape Streams. Check out my last video where I use it.
