I'm a big fan of Joe Jackson. I love the chord progression and the jazzy chords in the chorus of this song. And the verse has the catchy interplay between the bass and the guitar. In order to capture this on one guitar, I raised the key by a semitone so I could get the lowest note of the bass line. (The original is in the key of Bb; my version is in B.) Why ate you using a "cop out"?
A long time ago, I felt the same way as you, that using a capo was somehow a cop out, like someone couldn't be bothered to learn the harder barre chord versions of the chords. But eventually I realized that for certain songs, the capo allows the open strings to keep ringing as you change chords, which produces a different sound than using barre chords. The use of a capo also allows certain voicings that are impossible (or at least not practical) without them, for instance the G#m7 in this song (Em7 022033 with the capo on the 4th fret), which would be 466477 without a capo.
