Alash Orda - How Kazakhs Went From Nomadism to Modernism in 50 Years - Almost a Country - Episode 6
Colonisation remains to this day a topic of contention. Some see it as an utterly dreadful institution that can only bring expropriation, death and bloodshed. Others argue that it also comes with benefits, like education, technological innovation and social evolution.
The Kazakhs are a nation that lived through both the best and the worst of Russian colonial occupation. But was it essential to lay the groundworks for eventual creation of independent Kazakhstan.
This is the story of Kazakhstan's quickly and chaotically created ancestor - the Alash Autonomy, better known as Alash Orda.
The next episode will cover something I wanted to make for a long time - set sail to the Pirate Republic.
