Poet Clay Ventre was set to read from "It’s Not Love Until Someone Loses An Eye" . He asked not to be taped. So I shut down the camera. Next time maybe we can point the camera out the window and listen to Clay's world as the traffic rolls past Vincent's House . His reading was a wonderful ride. Stay tuned for the next time he comes to the GWC. Now here's Jim Dunn

Rosemary helped me through a major transition in my life, way back in the late 70s when Lothlorien played a significant part in our return from Zambia to Scotland. I still live by those learned values to this day and at age 81, am still practicing Radical Hospitality on a daily basis. I "welcome in the Stranger to make a Friend"...and currently a young Mum and her two children are gracing my home with their presence and countless Refugees and Asylum Seekers have found refuge under my roof to our mutual benefit and enrichment. A wonderful talk all the way around. I especially appreciated her negative remarks about the Tom Clark bio of Olson . I remember after reading that book ,I thought to myself that it was the only literary bio that I had ever read that diminished my interest and enthusiasm for the subject... Funny that Poetry wars are so intense that Ann Charters, a renowned scholar ,needed "permission" to enjoy Eliot after years of principled aversion -and a testimony to her honesty, courage, and lack of pretension that she publicly chides herself for that, and expresses relief that she is now free of that burden ..

GWC Board Member Dorothy Nelson was in the audience and wrote. "Martha Collins read from her new book, Casualty Reports. This could be her eleventh book. Luminous, like some of Mary Bushinger's recent work, the pages contain various poetic forms representing "A lament for the casualties of corporate destruction, racism, war, and personal loss." Martha has always been boldly but not domineeringly political in her world outlook and perspectives. It was a stunning evening of her poetry. New poems, new revelations, punctuated with lyric sensibility and pointed diction, on my, there is so much to this new book. I can't wait to get deeper into it. She is a Pulitzer Prize winner in my estimation."

From 9 years of age I aimed to be my best and seek my life dreams I tried all these things under the darkest of little to know opportunities, being like all the kids that look just like me fatherless and broken hearted into poverty and it was normal. I'm 60 now and I'm still fatherless broken hearted 1 son dead from fentanyl another son in prison sense 17 now 41 under the black law another dysfunctional son 30 and on drugs and my daughter who's 3 baby daddy and their fatherless to still I will never know my truth a story to leave my children or grandchildren we r slaves

Hi there, I have an URGENT poetic question regarding a Master's essay I am writing. I am looking at the English translation by Andrew Lang of the French poem Les Roses de Saadi (Marceline Desbordes-Valmore). The original is has an alexandrine metre - as is typical of classical French prosody - and 3 tercets. However, I am struggling to define the metre of the English translation. Could you help me? Here it is: "This morning I vowed I would bring thee my Roses, They were thrust in the band that my bodice encloses, But the breast-knots were broken, the Roses went free. The breast-knots were broken; the Roses together Floated forth on the wings of the wind and the weather, And they drifted afar down the streams of the sea. And the sea was as red as when sunset uncloses, But my raiment is sweet from the scent of the Roses, Thou shalt know, Love, how fragrant a memory can be." It seems to be a mixture of 12 and 13 syllables, but I'm not sure how to define it exactly. I recognise a strong four beat, but I am not a prosody expert at all. Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

@@GloucesterWriters Hi Henry, Vincent was my quite wonderful boyfriend for about 5 months in 1990. He was 77 ~ I was 31. I wish I had stayed with Vincent. He was SO NICE , SO intellectual, SO WONDROUS, SO MAGICAL! And we got along fabulously, always having adventures too! I broke it off believing I couldn't introduce such an older man to my family and thinking I'd like to find someone more my age. Also, Brenda is my youtube pseudonym. I'm not sure if you remember Joanie Sullivan. I only met you once or twice or so. I still have several of Vincent's letters that I must get into his archives in Lynn. I watched the entire film again couple of nights ago and loved every minute. (I watched it first time it was on PBS with the (haha) for mature audiences warning!) It's a once-in-a-lifetime you ever meet someone like Vincent, much less be so close to him and be so loved. I think of him dearly. <3
