Can we make a distinction between causation and permission here? If God for example is causing sickness, why pray for healing? If sickness, for example, is the will of God why go to doctors? Even when Joe was afflicted, Satan, got permission from God, but it was Satan that did it, while the Lord certainly gave permission, but permission doesn’t seem to be the same in my understanding as causation. This ultra suffering doctrine seems to confuse God and the devil. I do believe that God allows suffering, and that his hand is in it in a certain way, and sometimes we do suffer the consequences of our actions, which was what was happening with Jonah, but to give the impression that if you’re sick, God did it, if you’re depressed, God did it, if you’re defeated, God did it, seems to give the impression that God is bad, and the devil is good, and we know that that’s not true. I know that there is a degree of mystery in some of these things, and we do not understand everything, but it’s really hard to pray for deliverance to a God that you believe caused you to be oppressed. Having said all of that, I do believe that God‘s hand is working in our life in the midst of suffering, but it seems that permission would be a better word, we do know that with Ananias and Sarah, they were killed, and I believe that the Lord took their life. I understand where people are coming from, but let’s keep God good in the devil bad.
I respect Dr. Louzer a lot. It bugs me though how so many evangelicals so underestimate baptism in the name of Jesus Christ and us identifying with him by that means. I do agree that it is a sign, but why can’t it be reality? He says this at about 21 minutes in that it is a sign rather than reality. Romans six and Colossians two make it abundantly clear that we are buried with Jesus Christ in baptism, and we rise up to walk in newness of life. Paul is not denoting symbolism at all. And AC TS 2:38, we see that it is “for the remission of sins. “So it washes and cleanses us if appropriated through repentance and faith, and we also see this in ACTS 22:16. Galatians, three verses, 26 and 27 let us know that we are children of God through faith in Jesus Christ… For… As many of us as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ, so Paul is not separating faith from baptism. Peter also said in his first epistle in chapter 3 versus 20 and 21. That baptism does save us. That’s what it says baptism alone certainly does not save, but to say that baptism has nothing to do with salvation, directly contradict the scriptures. Baptism saves us by giving us a clean conscience toward God and we are pledging our loyalty to the Lord Jesus Christ. I don’t believe that this means that if someone is unable or does not have the knowledge concerning baptism that they would be lost if they were to pass, because Romans four does teach that among other things, baptism is a sign and a seal of our faith. Old covenant circumcision and new covenant baptism are pretty much the same, Romans, four versus 10:11, compare with Colossians, two versus 11:12. Abraham was reckoned righteous when he believed God, Genesis 15:6, but in chapter 17, when circumcision was mandated, Abraham certainly was Circumcised. He also offered Isaac. He demonstrated his faith, James, two, versus 14:26. So yes, it is possible to be with the Lord if one is unable to be baptized, or does not have the knowledge, etc. but if one refuses to take on the name of Jesus and baptism, willingly, Chances are pretty good that they do not have saving faith, Mark 16:16. Why would Jesus send the apostles command something that doesn’t do anything? Why can’t baptism in Jesus name be the meeting place of grace and faith? Why couldn’t God dispense Grace from baptism? Why couldn’t God use baptism as a means of helping us to have the cord cut from the kingdom of darkness, and bring us fully into the kingdom of light?
I remember as a child hearing this at night on the radio. Dr. Lutcher has such a good radio voice and ability to communicate. I always love that beginning song. Songs in the night, in the night. The Lord gives us songs in the night…love that organ.
I love these Songs in the Night shows! TY!
Sadly Family Radio stopped featuring these broad cast 😢
Thank you, Alberto, for making these available. These programs brought me such comfort as I drove truck very late at night so many years ago!
This was definitely for me and what I am learning ❤

What a joy to find this upload. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
I remember listening to these programs over 30 years ago. It's wonderful to hear them again.
Thank you for uploading Dr. Lutzer's sermons; haven't listened to all in your playlist yet. I used to listen to Songs in the Night on Christian Radio in the '80s, WAWZ 99.1 FM from Zarephath, NJ, along with Ron Hutchcraft (when he was in NJ), Bill Pearce's Nightsounds, Ray Ortlund of Haven of Rest, among others. The station is still around today, but the format and programming is much different than it was back then. This particular sermon is very enlightening and enriching because of the analogies spoken of regarding the ancient castle and a person's mind, and scripture references. It's a sermon that I wish every believer would hear and benefit from it to God's glory.
I did too.
Awesome episode 👍🏼
Have listened to many broadcasts of Lutzer- on the Moody Church Hour, Songs in the Night. Wonderful presentations of biblical truth in both.
