INSECTOPIA 🟤 Entomological Delicacy | The World of Edible Insects: the Food of the Future?
Around the world, over 2 billion people regularly consume one of the 1,900 species of edible insects as part of their diet. However, despite being closely linked to our nature, entomophagy has become a taboo topic in the vast majority of Western societies. For many of us, bugs are anything but food.
Nevertheless, all the deeply ingrained paradigms in the collective imagination were shaken when, in 2013, the FAO published a report describing insects as the potential food of the future. A good source of nutrition, in many cases even better than conventional protein sources, which could also help mitigate the devastating climate effects of a meat industry that, if we care about the future of our world, will not be able to feed the 9 billion mouths that will inhabit the Earth by 2050.
The report from the specialized UN agency generated so much media buzz and the prospects were so promising that it sparked a "boom" for edible insects worldwide. An industry around bugs as food was born, and the debate about something that went against our most deep-seated prejudices erupted.
In this journey through the world of entomophagy, we will explore the ancient relationship between insects and humanity, the origins of the aversion to something that once was part of our diet, the potential benefits of consuming these bugs, the future of what some call "the food of tomorrow"; and, since it's not the same to tell it as it is to experience it, we will have a tasting menu. This is the story of an entomological delicacy. The truth behind this insectopia.

I'm reading the book, "Cultish," which is about the language cults use. To oversimplify, one technique cults use is "insider" language, to make members feel special and elite. As a young tween/teen, I was in a Christian cult that called real life, "Worldly," which is supposedly inherently evil. I went to public school and was made to feel like a weirdo.
