The thing is, for a parody to be funny, it needs to have a kernel of truth in it. None of the things the parodist accuses Trump of ring true. This is just more #REgressiveLeftistDipshit sour grapes. No one "rewarded" President Trump with the leadership of the GOP, he won it fair and square - the first time he stood for election EVER. That's not "failing upward," that's an amazing success story. If you want to parody a lifelong grifter for failing into the role, do #CreepyJoeBiden. He was elected to the Senate in 1972, and since then hasn't won a new position on his own merit once. He lurked around the Senate chambers the odious Barry "Barack Hussein Obama" Soetoro tapped him to be his Vice President (and insurance policy, figuring no one would assassinate him if the result was putting Biden in the White House), having run unsuccessfully for President himself in 1988 and then again twenty years later in 2008. He was installed in the White House in 2021 via widespread election fraud in five key swing states. He spent his career selling influence to corrupt foreign governments and now sits, unelected, upon a corrupt #PoliceState that has managed to utterly fuck up a planned orderly withdrawal from Afghanistan, losing billions of dollars of U.S. military equipment to the hands of terrorists, and embroiled the United States in two new foreign conflicts - Ukraine and now Israel's cleanup of Arab terrorists in Gaza. On second thought, don't parody #FJB. He's got too much blood on his hands for anything said about him to be funny.

There was a very funny G&S piece in Mad Magazine in the very early 60's satirizing JFK: "WHEN I WAS A LAD MY FATHER SAID YOU'VE GOT GREAT HAIR UPON YOUR HEAD. SO TAKE CARE, SON TO TOUSLE IT WELL AND UPON THE FEMALE VOTERS YOU WILL CAST A SPELL. SO I TOUSLED MY HAIR SO CAREFULEEE.... THAT NOW I AM THE LEADER OF THE WHOLE COUNTREEE!" There were several other verses as only Mad Magazine could do them back in the days before political correctness

Very nice and funny update of Gilbert and Sullivan's "When I Was a Lad" from "HMS PInafore" and transforming SIr Joseph Porter into Donald Trump. I would change the punchline lyrics to "now I am ruler of the USA" but otherwise I enjoy the lyrics and laugh at the song 😄😉
This was actually written and recorded in the summer of 2016, before Trump won. However, the parody rhyme scheme just doesn't work with the alteration. [Verb] [demonstrative pronoun] [noun] so [adverb] reliably rhymes with 8 almost all English adverbs end in -ly. "Well" is the only exception that I can think of
I like Trump - but this parody nailed all his flaws in perfect tactful order, and I respect good satire. Definitely on my playlist.

Nothing says voice of the people like a 3rd rate parody song. Tom Lehrer retired over 50 years ago for a reason.
You seem not to know what that reason was. You also seem not to know the difference between parody and satire. IIRC, the only parody Lehrer wrote was his elements song to the tune of "Modern Major General". Lehrer wrote both non-satiric humorous songs and satiric songs. The original "When I Was a Lad" was political satire about a real person. My song is similarly satire about a real person, and also a parody of the G&S song. Somehow I suspect that your problem is with the political viewpoint of my song, not its literary merits.

See, the thing is, not only did you absolutely nail the parody lyrically and poetically, but you nailed the subject matter perfectly -- a rich, privileged, and singularly unqualified person grifting his way to the top. Maybe, perhaps, Sir Joseph Porter actually worked harder at it? No matter. Absolute genius.
"Sir Joseph Porter" character is a parody of British millionaire William Henry Smith, owner of the W.H. Smith bookstores and newsstands. He was elected a MP in 1868 and was appointed First Lord of Admiralty in 1877 (hence "I am ruler of the Queen's Navy" lyrics)

As a republican I think this is actually quite funny, The way they are mocking trump in a funny way, not super super insulting. I love it.
Just to be clear (as someone who never cast a single vote for Trump), the song is criticizing Trump for not letting his money sit and make profits, but for opening businesses that employed actual Americans for a period of time?
Not quite. It's criticizing him for having made a big thing of how he's a self-made billionaire with genius business instincts when objective reality says differently. Glad I could clear that up for you. Also, money one passively invests hopefully enables _other_ people to open and/or expand businesses. The idea that Trump's money can only employ Americans if Trump personally runs the businesses in which his money is invested strikes me as rather odd.
@@michaelstein2170 It's more of a sure thing when you open a brick-and-mortar facility in the US than when you put your money with a manager who will buy stock in a corporation that, chasing profits and dividends and seeking to make their stock prices rise, will cheerfully close all their American factories or warehouses and outsource that stuff to China. The idea that capital investments are inherently good because they make jobs available is the bullshit corporations and wealthy GOP donors (the kind who were Never Trumpers not least because they wanted the pipeline of Mexican wage-slaves to stay unquestioned) have been peddling for years.
@@Gunleaver Remember, Trump has lots of foreign dealings as well - no guarantee even his direct investments will employ many Americans. (There's also the question of whether they get paid.)
