Great video! We live in Tucson and visit Patagonia, Arivaca, Sweetwater Wetlands, and El Rio regularly. Thank you for sharing and demonstrating eBird and mentioning all the locations - so helpful! The photos are wonderful.
Thank you. My husband and I enjoyed watching your video.
I love your video. We live in Castle Rock, CO @6400 ft. I make about 3 gallons of nectar per week (4:1 mixture). We have 14 feeders and lots of flowers. Once the Roufus arrive here in July, their entire job seems to be to watch the feeders and fight like Mike Tyson 😂. They're beautiful but very aggressive. The Ruby Throated males are simply cowards in comparison 😅. I wish I had them year round, but that's just a pipe dream for me as my husband hates the heat and would've live anywhere else.
Awesome 🤩
Jazz and birds ❤ 🎉
Great video! Heading to SE Arizona early August to hopefully catch most of these hummers, especially the Calliope :)
Saw my Calliope at Casa San Pedro. A great B& B.
These birds are everything you describe and more. We have numerous nests around our home in Whetstone. Right now we have a nesting pair on our back porch and another in a tree close by. We put dried insect grubs, seeds an suet out every day. They do cause a loud ruckus, but we enjoy watching and listening. 😄
Great video! I'm also a Tucson resident and photog... our resident Broad-billed just raised two recently-fledged offspring.
Thank you for this video! I live in Elgin/Sonoita area. I was recently gifted a feeder and was wondering what species I might see here. I grew up in Tucson, and we always had feeders out. At the time, I didn't know many of the names. I've been to the Desert Museums aviary several times and learned a lot more. Like you, the Rufous is my favorite.
YOu have a huge, but great project ahead of you! I look forward to following your progress...happy trails!
I now have 39 species to find and photograph!
Thank you for this video! I'm currently in Arizona, and I came here to identify what bird I just heard--it's a white-winged dove! It was driving me crazy because their call sounds similar to a mourning dove, but I knew it had to be a different bird.
Everyday right before sunset I get a ton of mourning doves az has amazing bird life
Really stingy on the duration of each bird's song recordings - in this case, more *IS* better (haha ha!) - but still helpful to identify what's visiting my neighborhood.
Super great video and audio of the songs! Thank you!
I went to SE Arizona last July, and got 13 of the 14. The Plain Capped Star Throat being the only one I didn't get.
The soundtrack of my childhood in one video 😢
Yours was a most enjoyable video to watch, precisely presented in a comforting voice, and brilliantly illustrated with your very excellent photographs. Know that it was enjoyed on a chilly Idaho morning over a hot cup of coffee. A beautiful way to start my day! Thank you.
These are very good shots and as photographer of birds myself I speak from experience. With the exception of just 2 of these birds I have seen all of them in New Mexico. The only ones we don't here much if at all are the Aberts towhee and Gila woodpecker.
+100!
Nice video. I'm at the AZ / MX border and we have a ton of sparrows, thrashers, and quail. Some roadrunners too. The quail sure love my birdbath. They party every morning there. A few cardinals and pyrrhuloxia too lately.
Beautiful pictures!
Thank you for the video. I tried to attract hummingbirds in this summer first time. I was so happy when I saw one on my feeder. And later I had two more on other feeders. Now they all are gone. I was cleaning the feeders every day, I changed nectar twice in a day in hot weather. Where are my little angels? I am so disappointed. I live in Central Florida. My feeder are still hanging up. I am waiting for my birds back. 😢
I live in South FL, been getting Ruby throated to my yard and feeders for years. They arrive in mid-September and head back north usually late March/April. Don't worry, they'll be back. Try to find a shaded spot for the feeder, I change my nectar every two days. I've also been very lucky to have a Rufous in my yard the last two winters as well.
just moved to arizona, havent had the chance to buy any birding books yet, thanks for making this!
Have fun birding in Arizona. It’s an exceptional state for birds!
Bird is so amazing. thank you for the great collection my friend. Cheers.
What does the number mean exactly? Is it the place? For example, 1 is most common in the US?
The first number ( before the species name) is its position in Arizona, the number that comes after is its position in the US.
Excellent video.
Thank you, I’m working on a video “The Hummingbirds of Arizona.”
I always get house finches, house Sparrows and white collard doves cooing around and I do see 2-3 different birds that come and go. But I try to listen and hear the birds that sing but mostly the Say's Phoebe are most beautiful spring time welcomer.
this is awesome!
I was never interested in birds until I moved to Arizona and now I am fascinated .. we have curved billed thrashers here and they make the funniest sound but I clicked in your video trying to identify a teeny tiny bird I see walking on top of our concrete yard wall quite a bit and still not sure what it is but it is so cute !
Could your tiny bird be a Verdin? Grey with a yelllowish head.
have u seen the big year??
Nice and beautiful video. Thanks for sharing. Big Like 5
Amazing! Stunning photos that make me realize how human-centric we can be-forgetting the wonders of the world around us.
Thank you for the video!
My pleasure. The next video shows common birds, other than backyard species.
Wow, amazing video 👍
Thanks. The bird was so absorbed with his meal that he didn’t seem to mind me getting close enough to shoot the video.
