Part 3: Getting a spatial join with US Census data to work in ArcGIS Pro
Data types, data formats, etc! I have been doing this for 15 years and STILL mess up the steps/data prep. This is a quick look at how to get your fields and data ready to conduct a join with ACS (US Census) data.

Part 2: Getting US Census data ready to import into ArcGIS Pro (GIS)
มุมมอง 2013 หลายเดือนก่อน
There are a couple little steps that need to take place in order to get data ready to import into a GIS... here we go! Great article from US Census with the MID formula: ask.census.gov/prweb/PRServletCustom/app/ECORRAsk_/YACFBFye-rFIz_FoGtyvDRUGg1Uzu5Mn*/!STANDARD?pzuiactionrrr=CXtpbn0rTEpMcGRYOG1vS0tqTFAwaENUZWpvM1NNWEMzZ3p5aFpnWUxzVmw0TjJoOEprcE5BQndaM1Vid1FKbWRibnZu*

A quick example of how you can create ArcGIS Notebooks with parameters that can then be published as 'custom web tools'. Here is the ArcGIS Notebook (you can create copies of this and publish your own web tool): arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=287ebf9a7724405884b83d1fc96f04cb Here is a blog that walks through the steps as well: community.esri.com/t5/education-blog/custom-web-tool-in-mapviewer-for-...

Using ArcGIS Online to Plan for the 2024 Eclipse

There are so many great layers and datasets in ArcGIS Online and the Living Atlas. This video highlights just a few of the layers that I used to plan for the upcoming eclipse! I wanted my family to make it to totality - but not have a drive more than 3 hours, etc.
Styling Web Map Pop-Ups w/ Arcade: Building web maps for advocacy
มุมมอง 36ปีที่แล้ว
Arcade is a scripting language that let's users build really powerful pop-ups and logic in their web maps... and it's not too hard to get a handle on. In this example - we needed to present some very specific data to users of an ALS Clinic locator - but... that data will differ based on the region or location in the world... so how can we ensure that the right information is presented at the ri...

Building an Atlas with ArcGIS InstantApps - a great way to share curated layers and maps

Did anyone see that the Great Wall was bulldozed? Well... not really. This was a great example of a 'shocking' story on face value - that can allow anyone to explore the larger context... and what better way to do that than with GIS? Deep learning packages that can be run as a service in ArcGIS Online. This video gives a quick run through the ability to host imagery and then run a variety of deep learning packages on it. The best part... you just need to 'point' at the deep learning service, set some parameters, and then get your results back.

Introduction to ArcGIS Online - What is ArcGIS Online?
this is awesome, i havent got time to explore it, maybe its time I do.
Thank you so much! Life Saver
You just saved me 🙏. I couldn’t find out how to do this from the census bureau’s website or my gis class
Glad to help!
How do you sort by only TIGER/ line shape file
Make sure you are logged in if you are wondering why web map isn’t available
Have you had difficulties with US Census cvs data (US Census American Community Surveysocioeconomic data) GEOID's being "Big Integer" format, and if so, if there protocol for changing it to Long (i.e. there isn't an option in the Census shapefile to change it to Big integer to match the cvs? Thank you
gotcha in the next video, but my save button is currently disabled for my attribute table now?
Is the table/feature layer a dataset you have locally or that you 'own'?
I can't read the second column well, I wonder if you put an I, it has been a while since I did this I am a bit rusty. Thanks for the help
Nope! Should just be the same formula that is found at the website in the link above - or here: =MID(A3,10,LEN(A3))
Very helpful! Thank you
how would this work if you only have 'creator' access within an organization? would you need to upgrade to a 'publisher' access to share it within ArcGIS Online as a Web Map?
Thank you! Just what I needed! 😊
Thank you!
Hi, I need a help
What kind of help do you need?
@brianspatial it's a private conversation.. if you don't mind can I get your email please.. it's regarding this video
Hello, could I get your email
great video, i learnt alot - thanks!
Hi Brian, Are the analysis tools available with the free ArgGIS account or the subscription account? Also where can you find data sets to work with? Thanks
Good Q - there is a ton of data available through the Living Atlas - which is just hosted (just Google Esri Living Atlas and there are some nice visual tools for exploring what content is there). The analysis tools are only part of the 'paid' version of the tools (because the analysis generates content that takes up storage space) - but there is a 99$/yr. personal use edition which includes them.
So helpful! Thanks! :)
Thank you Brian for the excellent intro
Good one .thank you
No worries! Make sure to check out the newer video for the latest UI for the Analysis tools.
Awesome! Thanks.
You bet!
Great introduction. Thanks for sharing!
Hello,I want to learn ArcGIS suites, but I have troubles to get the licenses of ArcGIS. Can you help me to buy a personal license which seems like cheaper for me,thank you!
The personal license is available through the Esri website - just need to search for 'Esri Personal Use' - it's 99$/year.
I'm still going through your videos so maybe you cover it, but my biggest points of confusion since working with arcgis pro desktop (~ 1 month) that maybe you can cover are: folder management in a project, shapefiles vs geodatabases, quickly drawing a custom polygon, publishing to arcgis online and re-importing from arcgis online if modified... anyways thanks for the videos.
Great questions AR - those are a lot of topics! You raise some great questions through and I could certainly look at getting a video together for some of those.
this is super helpful, i'm just starting out with GIS
Great to hear AR!
One of my all time favorite books on this subject is The MapMakers Wife. The French sent a team to Svalbard in the 1730s and also to Ecuador to measure 1 degree of latitude at each, to determine if the Earth was a oblate spheroid or a prolate spheroid. The book details the exacting measurements that the French team took in Ecuador, encountering many obstacles-human and physical environment-and then how 1 of the French surveyors married a local Native woman and her incredible journey to rejoin her spouse in Guyana, going across the Andes to do it. Fascinating!
I often use SADD in discussing the limitations of projections---they're all SADD in some way - shape, area, distance, or direction - very useful however! Thanks Brian.
Very nice!
