Yosemite’s Half Dome, 11 April 2022

The welcome surprise of an early April storm blanketed the Sierra with snow. This is a view from just above Little Yosemite Valley on the John Muir Trail, looking up and northwest at Half Dome and its subdome.
Snowstorm and traffic at Echo Summit, on US50 outside of South Lake Tahoe.

The series of storms starting February 7th halted California's slide into the worst draught in recorded history. But, of course, it caused many headaches along with the blessings. Climbing out of the Tahoe Basin over Echo Summit took several hours to travel a few dozen miles.

Rain at Garnet Lake
มุมมอง 7711 ปีที่แล้ว
September 10th, 2011 - heavy rain at Garnet Lake along the John Muir Trail (LatLong 37.71401, -119.15604). Banner Peak is barely visible at the end of the lake, with Mount Ritter over its left shoulder. I camped at the far end of the low, rocky peninsula spreading across the lake in the final view. The next morning everything was glorious (see at www.panoramio.com/photo/73667406 ).
Mist Trail / Yosemite National Park / June 2011

The cool spring of 2011 kept the snow pack of the high Sierra Nevada intact far longer than usual, so once it finally got hot it started melting fast, so the rivers and waterfalls were thundering. This is the Mist Trail, climbing alongside the Merced River as it rages just below Vernal Falls. Hikers were soaked to the skin by the time they passed through, but the day was warm enough to make tha...
Yosemite Valley from Taft Point, June 2011
มุมมอง 13913 ปีที่แล้ว
The view from Taft Point on Yosemite Valley's south rim. El Capitan is visible to the northwest at the beginning, then Yosemite Falls to the northeast. The point is at 7503 feet (there's a USGS Survey Marker at the edge), the valley floor is at roughly 4000 feet, and that first drop the cliff at your feet is more-or-less straight down for 2000 feet.

I love this drive in any weather. Did not bother me at all between 17 yrs old to 79 years old, however now I prefer warm weather at age 83. Never had an accident but saw plenty.
