I would love a storygraph video and why you prefer it! I'm looking to switch in the new year but I don't find it super user friendly 😅
I would LOVE to
I didn’t like the Secret History either!!! Bought myself the Acotar set for christmas to try next year. I’ve been really into series this year: read all of the Miss Marple books from Agatha Christie, Fourth Wing and Iron Flame, The Naturals series, and somehow also managed a trip down memory lane rereading the Twilight and Harry Potter series. Loved Lessons in Chemistry, Hello Beautiful and Funny Story. I read mostly classics last year, and really enjoyed something different this year ❤️
omg I loveddd the naturals series this year!! I have only the final book to go!
Loved this! I added Homegoing to my tbr, it sounds so interesting and I’m sure will be enlightening. My book rec for you in a possibly a different genre is The Salt Path by Raynor Winn. Enjoy the holidays and see you in 2025 😊
thanks for the rec 💗 happy holidays!!
Based on your love for Last Call at the Local (which is now on my TBR), I have to recommend Abby Jimenez as an author!! Specifically the “Part of Your World” series (also stand alone books but with interconnected characters). I started with the 3rd book and LOVED IT. She consults with psychologists and therapists on her characters and her portrayal of mental health issues and topics is, thus far, unmatched for me. Highly recommend.
yes!! she's been on my radar for a while and I feel like I've been saving up her books like gold. I'm soooo excited to get into her books next year💗
Always love hearing your thoughts 😍 my overrated book of the year has been The Will of the Many. So many people said it was their fave of 2023, but imo it was way too long and could have definitely been at least 25% shorter. T. Kingfisher is also among my fave authors discovered this year! Eventually I'd like to read her whole back list.
I also want to read more 500+ pages books. They intimidate me, but they are often worth it! Also looking forward to reading your recs in 2025 😍
Manga recs for you: Spy x Family (you don't pronounce the x), Ascendance of a Bookworm, A Sign of Affection, Kaguya-sama: Love is War
thank you amara !!!! 🩷 and hell yeah I would love to read T Kingfisher's backlog but I also wanna savor it when I do😭
@@gracereadit A project of many years for sure!
Ive been loving alot of contemporary fiction this year. I just got back into reading so, im just picking up some fun ones like, assistant to the villain and tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow
ugh I love tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow. one of my 5 star reads from last year!
Yes I’ve been using theStoryGraph for years now!! I love it!
I feel like you chose the wrong genre. Life is short, read books by authors you like. 📚📖
very true !!! thrillers are super hit or miss for me but definitely helped get me back into reading as an adult
lol, I think thrillers might not be for you! Are there any in this genre that you have liked? I can’t tell if I’m just so numbed from years of watching law and order and criminal minds 😳
I have liked a handful of thrillers !! it’s just really hard for me to find a thriller author I like and trust, it seems 🥲
As a viewer, it was a bit frustrating that you didn't have fun with the books :( it wasn't that nice to see you struggling. Next, could you possibly make a video where you read books by authors that you like or expect 5 stars :D
that's fair!! and I can absolutely do a video like that in the future🥰
all the stages of regret being in your face in the thumbnails alone 😭
lmao real
Sad about you not liking the Lisa Jewell book but also kinda relieved. My friend has been pushing me to read a Jewell book but I’ve been hesitant since I’m not a mystery/thriller reader. Now I know I’m just gonna “forget” about that recommendation haha
I genuinely don't think she's a bad writer, just really not for me !!
Wow, I actually enjoyed all these books, and I read a lot of thrillers.
honestly love that for you!! but something about these just did not click for me idk!! the first two weren't bad (just maybe a bit to "icky?" for my taste personally), but you shouldn't have come here?? I can't stand by that book lol the writing was not good, the characters were cringey, and the twist was not well-earned in my opinion😭
I loved none of this is true, haaaaaated you shouldn’t have come here
I honestly can see why people would like none of this was true, I just don't love the way lisa jewell's books make me feel!! idk! she writes well honestly but I was like too on edge? if that makes sense? like I just got angry at the characters making bad choices lol
me last week trying to read a liane moriarty book thinking this time will be different when in reality we’re 0/3 and I need to just let it go 😭
I am honestly scared to read books by her as well bc I don't know if they're gonna click for me...
Love you, love your videos, sooooo excited for more book content but I really don’t know how to react to this video 🙂 On the one hand it was pretty funny, your facial expressions 😄 but then also, I really really don’t want you to be spending that much of your time actively ‘not having fun’! I like the idea of second chances but maybe not when they were so bad first time, especially in a disturbing / gross / mentally exhausting way (no need to subject yourself to more of that!). Maybe it’d be better with romcom writers?! Also your realism in everything you do is 😘 Have a great week!
HAHA I appreciate this!!! you're so sweet. honestly a lot of it was morbid curiosity to see if all of their books are not good, or I just got a bad one the first time. I probably won't be doing many reading vlogs like this in the future. perhaps a one off every so often because it's fun in a weird way LOL but I'd love to do videos of me reading more books from authors I loved the first one!! hehe
welcome to Booktube! Been following your other channel for a while, but I'm so happy you started a booktube!!!
My reading tastes are… Top genres: Fantasy, Classics, History, Historical Fiction Top books: Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Unbroken, Anne of Green Gables, Count of Monte Cristo, Stormlight Archive, I also collect books but most of them are thrifted and cost like nothing!
The scarlet veil!! It’s set in the same world I believe as her initial series serpent and dove and I would 100% recommend! ❤
I might check it out!!! I'm honestly not as interested in that side of the plot, but perhaps I will read the first book and see if I like it
I LOVED your video. Watched it while working on a crocheted bear family for my daughter. And immediately put Bride on hold at my library to read on Kindle!
omg love that !!!
01:09 bibliography! ❤
I feel like I was considering that too but I always thought that was just what you put it at the back of an essay LOL
FYI the banner looks cut off on the TH-cam app.
dang I thought I had fixed that. thanks for the heads up!!
Ive read 2 Ali Hazelwood books, Love on the Brain and The Love Hypothesis, I love romance books, but hers are on another level!! Lol the way i would get giddy during certain scenes 😅 definitely recommend those. I do plan to read more of her books so maybe I'll try out Bride. Im not a spooky book reader, i dont do scary movies so as lomg as they arent terrifying i give mystery/thrillers a chance. Currently im reading Cresent City, im on the first book of the series, so far Throne of glass series is my fav my SJM. Ive never watched any book channels, so you arr my first, cant wait to see what books you read next ❤
Bride really isn't scary at all! the main characters just happen to be werewolves and vampires haha
I think the big book tubers get sent heaps of free books, don’t they? They also use Libby maybe? I love Libby, and since giving up Full time work, I use it always and then only buy the books I absolutely love.
I don't think they get free books as much as you'd think! they get ARCs occasionally but not as much as many of them are collecting and reading books from what I've seen.... idk it's wild
we love to see the love for Bride
I recommend A Discovery of Witches. Vampires, witches and daemons. Its an amazing trilogy - I do not however recommend the later follow up 4th and 5th books tho 🤦🏻♀️ I have never been so disappointed when I read the 4th book, it was so slow and boring, I refuse to read the 5th! The original trilogy was turned into a tv show (enjoyed that too) in 2018 a few years after the 3rd book was published. And lo and behold the another released the 4th book in 2019, I guess to capitalise from the success of the tv show - she should not have, I’m pretending it doesn’t exist 😄
good to note about a discovery of witches because ever since the show came out, the books have been on my tbr!
Yay!! Great vid! I’m about 75% thru the second book in a duology (Two Twisted Crowns). Didn’t realise it was a duology when I started the first book and was so fricken glad the second book had already been released 😄
I was so upset when I realized that it was a duology and the second book hadn't come out yet😭😭
Yay!! Welcome to the booktube world, we're glad to have you!
I do too enjoyed Bride, but was surprised at the amount of smut. Haha. Guess I shouldn't have been.
Omgosh, read Twilight! Lol, I dont think you'll like it since you arent a teenager, but I need to see your thoughts. 😂
LOL my best friend said she tried to read it for the first time a few years ago and she could barely make it ⅓ of the way into the book lol
I can get quite a few of the books I want from the library. Because I read a fair amount of nonfiction history, there are times when I have to buy a specific book. I'm trying to limit how many books I buy.
I have a similar rating. Also I do not get the influencers who buy 3+ copies of the same book. I can understand having it on audio book as well as physical, esp if the vibes were good, but I do not understand the content creators/people who will start a book on audio then go buy the phyiscal anyway. If you didn't like it and won't plan on re-reading, ya just wasted money. And now the book is taking up valuable shelf space too?
I know!! blowssss my mind
4:22 the perfect reading buddies flip and astro! 🥰
they are😭💗 Astro is leaving next week though😭
Ooo, I love the halloween themed reading vlog! Bride was my first Ali Hazelwood read too. I went into it blind so it was a bit of a jumpscare 🤣 It’s on sale today for $2 if anyone has been wanting to have a permanent copy on kindle.
LMAOOO I knew what to expect going in terms of .... well you know lol so I think it definitely helped
I neeeeed to get back on BookTube. So glad you're here, Grace!
Congrats on the first review video here! Looking forward to reading Bride! Also not super into the whole revenge thing in stories 😆
lol glad I'm not the only one!!
14:47 loving it! New York cityyy. Great video!
I love this. So fun! Bride is on my TBR!
definitely recommend reading it !!! perfect for the fall time!
@@gracereadit OK! Great! I will!
@ 1:12 I believe it's called a backlist :) I watch your other channel but my main youtube interest is booktube so this is a fun crossover! happy halloween!
omg backlist !! that sounds way better than book-ography lol
So excited for your book tube! Been needing a booktuber who reads similar to me since Noelle Gallagher stopped posting!
aw glad I can fill that spot!
I think I am the first comment!! I love your videos!!
aww thank you! 💗
I am beyond excited 😍 you have definitely helped me get back into reading! Very excited to hear your opinions on all the books❤
As you know I also give out true 5 star ratings rarely (might round up on GoodReads, but TSG is more accurate). I just finished Cemetery Kids Don't Die today and it was one of the best comics I read all year! It had well done disability rep, which is sadly so rare. Which is a good segue in the book I just started: Trans and disabled. An anthology/collection of stories, poems, drawings, etc.
will 1000% check it out!!!
Yes! love to see not spending a ton and using the library! refreshing!
I'm so excited for this! I started reading again like 5 months ago, haven't read much since college. Have been really enjoying George R. R. Martin universe, it's so random but his books literally captured me haha. Can't wait to get into whatever you read here! 💗 ps. I'm also a Kindle girlie, literally saved my life in my low-buy year :)
Favorites so far this year: Pt 1 Half a Soul by Olivia Atwater Lonely Castle in the Mirror by Mizuki Tsujimura (this is gonna be the top for the year) Nettle & Bone by T Kingfisher (there is a dog made of bones!) Hiiii Grace! I’m so excited for this channel! My current book is The Picture of Dorian Gray, and some of my 5⭐️ reads this year (so far) have been Normal People, Circle, The Song of Achilles, Blue Sisters, and Alone With You in the Ether.
the picture of dorian gray is on my tbr!!! maybe I'll get to it next year...
I JUST found your main channel and watched a no-buy video and saw this. So exciting. Loving your content so far. Spoiler: I am about to plug public libraries pretty hard! Hi, I am a YA librarian and am so glad to see you encouraging library use! We have so much to offer for all ages. People should always check out their local libraries, they have more than just books. My library has dvds/blu ray, books on CD, ukuleles, and a library of things that includes wifi hotspots, sewing machines, kayaks and more. We also host board game nights, offer craft programs, host art shows, author talks, and much more, especially during the summer. Seriously, check out your local library, and other nearby libraries. I have about a dozen libraries in striking distance of me to choose among and so much fun programming to choose from. And interlibrary loan means the books I can find are almost unlimited. ^_^
Have you read "Project Hail Mary"? Def has potential to cure your fear of aliens!!😆👽
LMAO I have !!! I was feelin sickly while reading for a while but then eased into it lol
welcome to booktube!!! do you mind sharing your main channel??
omg hi thank you!! my main channel is www.youtube.com/@gracenevitt 💗
