Loaded Tangent Review: 36" Bracket Setup for Long Distance Skating (LDP)
See the Tangent on Loaded's site: i.loadedboards.com/117-120.html
The Loaded Tangent bracket setup is built for serious distance skaters and commuters. With its ultra-low platform and deep drop from the brackets, it offers exceptional stability and comfort, making long-distance skating smoother and more efficient.
The Tangent allows for large wheels, up to 105mm, without the need for risers, helping you roll effortlessly over cracks, bumps, and rough surfaces.
The setup uses Loaded’s Zee Brackets, designed by G/Bomb, which create a double-drop system that delivers a low center of gravity and a stable ride.
Whether you're commuting or going the distance, the Tangent’s large platform gives taller riders and those with wider stances more room to push and brake comfortably.
It's nimble, responsive, and fast-turning, even with the massive Dad Bod wheels, thanks to the brackets and the highly maneuverable 150mm Paris trucks.
If you're looking for a high-performance longboard with a focus on distance skating, the Tangent’s composite deck, slight rocker profile, and superb ride height make it an ideal choice for pushing your limits.

How to choose the best longboard for commuting
Ive been skating one of those for a year now and have put on a lot of miles with it. A couple things i have done, i made 1/8 truck spacers to drop the board down some. Also i have swaped to black 50° bear trucks just because i like the base plate profile a little better. Then i have a set on 90mm wheels for slightly better terrain and use the dad bods for the nasty country roads. Works great 👍
Great video brother, I'm between the loaded tangent, or the pantheon supersonic. I just want it to ride around town and on bike trails. What do u think, you're opinion maters thanks
Tem representante no Brasil?
I have a flex 1, setup sidewinders 2, and dad bods. But I'm switching to Paris 180 trucks.
Very helpful, thank you
105 a big wheel. Would you recommend the 43 baseplate? One or both if so. Looking at this for black friday
The Dad Bods are great with the standard baseplate (or the 43º) but the 43º is greatly improves your pumping ability. hth
43 rear is the way to go
I cheaped out because the caguama is so affordable as b stock and made a Ballona Med Wheel. I'm 250# and used yellow nipples with road side cup washer and 1/4, 1/8, and 1/16 riser initially but dropped down to 1/8 1/16 keep washer and then finally today no cup washer. So far it seems a little twitchy but still fun to play with. I haven't had much time on it yet but as soon as I see a deal on dad bods I'll grab a set to play with.
Nice review, i was looking at a electric board but might get this one. Can you add a light to the front and back? Plus i would most likely use a street paddle since my commute is 15 miles each way to work.
This was so helpful -- thank you! I just ordered.
I have Choke Spicy Sabrina elite cruiser, it is a vinyl cruiser but it have similar profile and concave as this board
That's a nice carve 💪, those people aren't save however 😆 What is the the replacement for the chief ...? Greetz Alexander 🌞
A quiver is not the board, but your collection of boards(arrows)
Yes it's a 4-surfskate quiver
Advantages and disadvantages of trucks from 150mm 165mm and 180mm?
Still to high it needs drop through risers 🤙
I like the idea of the extra length but im not sure about the extra width
I am all for Volcano lava material tech
Hello, nice review. For pumping on flat, do you use the same bushings and tunings on rear and front trucks or do you tune the rear stiffer ?
Managed to stand on a fathom in a skate shop on holiday. Knew the tangent would be better for me and ordered one when I got home. Can't wait! I've got 77a caguamas on 50/44 degree split 9 inch raked caliber 3s waiting for the board and bracket to arrive.
Sounds like a cool setup for pumping, we'd love to have your thoughts once you get it!
@@RidingBoards Amazing board, agree with all of your points about it. My only complaint is that it is a little heavy when carrying, not impossible to carry around a supermarket but a bit cumbersome. However, that isn't what this board is designed for so I'll stick to my Dinghy Fender for that. Overall, having only spent a small amount of time on the board, I can already say the Tangent is the most comfortable board I've ever ridden. I look forward to put 1000s of miles on it in the future!
@@MrSubZer05 Yes not the lightest board to carry around especially with the Dad Bods on! When I need some LDP capability + portability I'll often grab my Tan Tien, it's light AF in comparison - albeit nowhere as turny. www.ridingboards.com/loaded-tan-tien-review/
*Great video!* 🤙🏽⚡️🤟🏽⚡️👌🏽 Pretty cool deck/setup bein larger than their other and a nice alternative to the awesome non-bracket normal Pantheon boards.
Everything you said about this board is true. I am riding one currently. I added wedged risers to the Paris trucks which yields greater responsiveness and more energetic pumping. Check it out, it's a cheap mod.
Thank you!
just get a bhangra
At 4:00 you said durability for 6-10 years, lolz, my original 2002 model is 22-years-old and is fantastic to cruise on and I regularly take it to the skateparks and pump track. Recently, I refurbished my Loaded Vanguard with new Orangatang Nipples Bushings, new Loaded hardware and Redz bearings and it now rides like new.
Wow amazing you actually have the original Oak deck? What wheels are you running? Would you share a pic or 2 ? I'll add them to my blog post!
Needs to be wider and more camber to make it more stable for my surf trucks . That is why I stop using mine.I used mine for years.I am 71 years old. I use my Dervish Sama more because it is wider.
It's close to perfect the way it is.
Dream deck! Flex 3 please.
Have you tried pairing it with dad bods? would it still be pumpable and carvable enough? :) (if that makes any sense)
Yeah I've taken the Grave Digger setup for a (long) spin. I'm not the best rider out there but I was still able to carve nicely, it feels like the deck's "springyness" even beats the high grip of the Dad Bods so that you get a sweet carving feel and you gain speed in pumps. Some people wedge/dewedge for better results, haven't tried that yet on that setup. The Dad Bods have incredible roll and rollover but so far I like the Cags better with the Vanguard, notably more responsiveness and acceleration. Just my 2c though
That wheels are fucking Trash!!! If i spilt on the road and drive over it, Ispin out. Those wheels are more expensive than my board but they are SHIT!
I have a flex 1 which is 12 yrs old and a flex 2 that's about 2 yrs old. I'm looking at getting a flex 3 and fit it with dad bods.
Doesn’t look like you have any riser pads on the deck. I’ve read some people mount angled riser pads on the Vanguard for an even more aggressive carve.
Yeah wedging/dewedging the front/back adds leverage to your pumping. Haven't tried it yet with the Vanguard + Dad Bods though. Should be fun!
*Legendary deck!* 🤙🏽⚡️🤟🏽⚡️🤙🏽
Definitely! and the 21 edition is just beautiful
What do you think about a 34" pintail for commuting?
It depends on the kind of commute you have and on your skills. A topmount pintail will generally require more effort for pushing long distance since it has a higher ride and you need to bend your knee more to reach the ground. A drop-through or even a drop down may be a better option. Easy to ride for beginners too, including downhill. On the other hand, if it's a relatively short commute on sidewalks or in tight alleys, a topmount will give you more nimble turns, and if you like to carve it's better for that as well. If the pintail has some flex, it can be even more fun to ride. 34" is a good compact size for commuting and you can easily take it on a bus and stash it under a desk. One caveat with a pintail is that it typically doesn't have a kicktail which comes in handy for curb hopping or quick turns when commuting. So-called "kicktail boards" are like a pintail with a kick, so that could be a good choice too. Overall, pintails are great for relaxed surf-style carving and cruising, but they are limited in terms of features, so it all depends on your goals. Hope that helps!
@@RidingBoards yes, thanx!
Not sure how brackets give you more drop or wheel clearance than tailed boards.
Is Globe Geminon 47" god for begoner? Im 44 yours old.
Great breakdown!
Hi! Strictly for the best carving feel, surfy linking carves down mild hills, superb pumpability and flex feel. What would be your best choice? Vanguard, Icarus or Symtail? Or some other loaded board?
For the best carving and pumping / surf feel, I'd go for a flex topmount, so Symtail or Vanguard. Kicks are great for curb hopping and some trickery, but if you don't need that, no kicks gives you a longer wheelbase and hence more flex and rebound. In this case I'd say the Vanguard wins.
@RidingBoards Thanks a lot. Do you ever experience tendency of your front foot sliding a bit too much to the front on Vanguard when hard pumping, which causes "foot" wheelbite? Cause Vanguard doesn't have much concave or wheel flares like Icarus for example. I had that issue on one of my previous boards.
@@Skybij I haven't experienced that tbh. It's true the Vanguard is on the flat side compared to the other two, though it does have subtle concave. Maybe I don't pump as hard as you do. Also, it might have to do with too much flex for your foot size or weight ?
if i lived in the city, id probably own every single loaded and landyachtz lol
Hi! I'm fairly new to longboarding so figuring out what I need has been a struggle. I'm looking for the perfect board to do long distance riding. I'd love to do pumping and carving (maybe push like 15-25% of the time) would you say this is the perfect board for it, or are there better alternatives? I currently use Landyachtz battle axe but I find getting forward momentum without pushing not working too well.
If your main focus is on pumping & carving then the Symtail or the Vanguard can be a good fit. If you don't plan to do any tricks and don't need the kicks then the Vanguard will give you the ultimate pumping experience with a large wheelbase for stability at speed. If on the other hand you want kicks, the Symtai is your guy. Now for your 15-25% of pushing, these two boards are not the best due to their camber profile and ride height. For efficient pushing, a drop-through like the Icarus is a good fit - it's also design for high-energy carving. Pumping requires a bit more skills though. In summary, if you want mostly pumping with kick turns and curb hopping, get the Symtail. High rebound pumping without tricks, the Vanguard. Easy pushing with good carving and some pumping ability, the Icarus. The latter is the closest to the Battle Axe albeit with better pumping (especially if you get the Flex 2). My 2c! HTH
@@RidingBoards Brilliant, thank you! followup newbie question if that's okay, I'm looking into the vanguard vs Symtail, but I'm not sure yet how I decide what flex to take. I'm seeing the recommended weight classes for each flex but at 70kg I fit all of them. What would you recommend for long distance carving and pumping?
@@SirensLament for pumping and carving you want lively energetic response from the board in your turns. More flex generally means more energy and speed boost in deep carves once you learn to dig deep into those turns. I would go for max flex i.e. Flex 2 for the Symtail or Flex 3 for the Vanguard (I think they're out of Flex 4). At 70 kg you should be good with a soft flex whereas a 90kg rider might wonder if it might be too bouncy and perhaps bottom out, but in your case it should be great. Just know there will be a bit of a learning curve for getting your weight shifting right and making the most of the flex for picking up and maintaining momentum and speed.
@@RidingBoards Thank you so much for all the effort answering my questions. based on this I'm leaning towards buying a Vanguard Flex 3. Have a great weekend!!
@@SirensLament Sure thing, you can also check out my review of the Vanguard here: www.ridingboards.com/loaded-vanguard-review/ - I have a video update planned in the next days. Ride on!
How would this be different from a drop through board. Seems to me they have dropped decks and shortened usable space. Don't get me wrong.. these look great. Just starting on my journey into LDP
Somehow every laoded board makes me get excited :D Nice Video!
Thanks bro! ride on!
🤙🏽🤟🏽🤙🏽 *Loaded make some amazin decks!*
La barrosa !!!
For anyone watching this in May 2024 the maple stratus from last year was available for 60!!!! dollars on the landyachtz website a few days ago. That is less than many skateboards. If you already have a 150-180mm reverse kingpin truck, like Paris for example, that is the best value if you want to try dancing. A dancing/freestyle board arguably should spend some time upside down and it feels way better when it doesn't cost more an arm and a leg.
As an added note I think all points on flex are correct but it's also highly personal. I'm about 160 pounds and usually prefer the stiffer flex options even tho I mainly cross step and carve. I also love a dancer for shorter commutes but I live in a pretty small town in Sweden and from what I gather we have way more and way better bike paths than many other places.
supposed to use button top hardware screws from loaded.
what would you rate
Sweet set up but costly and all that speed w/o a great means to stop can be NASTY
Foot braking is easy on a double drop
between the this board and the swell tech , which would be better to just pump and generate speed without ever pushing off the ground ? i have a small concrete area i just want to pump in without ever putting my foot on the ground . cheers
The Flow is a lot easier than the Swell Tech. The ST is more surf focused, looks and feels more like a surfboard. It's longer and the surf truck is a lot less stable. I love the ST for surf training, really emulates surfing well. You can do 360s and easy backslides. But it takes a bit of getting used to, plus it rides pretty high. The ST truck is pretty massive. The newer version is a bit more stable than the previous one, but it still feels closer to the YOW than the Carver. The Flow is nice and stable, if you want to jump on a board and start pumping right away it's a good choice. It's mellow but turns quite well compared to a regular cruiser. Sort of like a Carver CX, but the great thing about the Flow is that it has a low ride, which keeps you more confidence and stability, and you can also push on it without too much effort if you need to. See my full review here www.ridingboards.com/flow-skateboards-review . HTH
Can you get up driveways or even curbs?
Driveways definitely and small curbs. The flex lets you unweight/spring up too. Super safe feel
Thanks for the reply! I was set on getting the Ballona with the dad bods, but now I’m heavily considering this instead. I’m just concerned that the fathom doesn’t have a tail, and what the size difference is. I’m primarily going to use it to get around faster, I’m not using either for tricks.
@vu3088 they're very different, I ride both for commuting depending on my needs. If there are quite a few obstacles or if I need to carry the board around a lot, e.g. for stores or bus/train, I usually take the Ballona for the portability and the kick. If there are extensive bike paths and open roads I use the Fathom for the high speed and easy pushing. You can check out my review posts www.ridingboards.com/loaded-ballona-review and www.ridingboards.com/loaded-fathom-review-distance-commuting-bracket-setup
