Now after hearing this I wish this version was actually made.

the cave of shadows from fraggle rock season 3 episode 5 "pebble pox blues" scared the hell out of me due to being raised to fear the paranormal.

Dame they were going to kill the Mom in the original that's brutal 😮😢 sounds like the original was going to be way more violent I think like the changes

I remember being terrified of this movie as a kid, but now I'm actually a huge fan of it.

Not bad. I was a little "eeehh" with the first half but it became much better after Pete was nommed on. 12:40 ~ absolutely. We owe it to Spielberg for toning it down. Columbus made it just a bit too gory. It's weird because Steven was the guy to make a movie about a shark terrorizing a beach and Chris was always the family-friendly type of guy. The Goonies, Mrs. Doubtfire, Home Alone, Harry Potter, Christmas with the Kranks, Jingle All the Way... so what the actual heck was he thinking?

I was actually thinking that a Gremlins 3 could take inspiration of the original script and make Gizmo the villain because he was forced to eat after midnight, and considering he's older than the other Gremlins maybe he would be a little bigger than the others, about having a cute moguai trough the film they could make that Gizmo before turing into a Gremlin spawn a fluffy Moguai that was domesticated by Billy, Kate and their daugher anda big plot would be looking for an artefact or something to turn Gremlins back into Moguais

Ever notice how the _biggest_ offender of copy wrong takedowns is _Diseased-ny?_

He doesn’t even call them gremlins in the original script.

The fun thing to me is that the original script was never intended to be made into a movie, it was a writing sample Chris Columbus could pass around to show that he could, in fact, write a script. Spielberg bought it because he thought the core idea was so interesting and creative, and the reworks were largely meant to turn it into a movie that could be made with 1980s technology. Those changes also created more lighthearted, quirky film that, yeah, probably ended up more memorable than what the original script would have been. I think it was less a case of "watering down" the writer's vision, and more refining it. Film is a collaborative medium, and sometimes that's a good thing, when you start with a great idea and great creative people join in and add their own great ideas. Sometimes that's a bad thing, when others come in and squash the good ideas and stuff in their bad ones.

The final cut was great, but I feel like the alternate script could work as reboot material

The final product we got was way better! Gizmo is my favorite movie character and the gremlins were way funnier and silly!

The gremlins in this version are just more malicious and less funny. Part of the reason we can tolerate them in the final version we got was that they were funny and entertaining.

Final cut definitely was the way to go, the original script lacks that crazy over the top feel that really makes gremlins stand out as a good movie. It lacks all those great shenanigans the gremlins get up to throughout the movie which is my favourite thing about it besides the amazing special effects. Gremlins just kinda tearing people up isn't as much fun as launching old woman out the second story windows , or joyriding in industrial equipement.

Amazing summary I was always curious of what the orginal thing was, and agreed the one we got was a looooot better. Merry christmas! :3

Seriously traumatizing movie for any children of the 80s was Hooper’s remake of Invaders From Mars, from the eerie paranoid tone of the boy protagonist’s family and friends all turning against him to try to capture or kill him, to the wild special effects, to the neck drilling, to the campy dialogue, it was seriously terrifying.

I don't think Jeff is coming back I've seen how he treated and if Jeff was weird he probably committed suicide by now with how people treat him which is why I smile dog possessed other dogs to avenge his owner

The Twilight Zone theme used to scare me when I was kid. I would eventually go on to watch and like the series. Return of the Living Dead was such a jam. I didn't see it until I was in my teens though. My parents let me watch things like Poltergeist, Child's Play, Cat's Eye and Labrynth. I still check toys for batteries if I'm around them Also, Thriller and Large Marge

Close encounters of the third kind scared me when i was 8. And the scorpion scene in honey i shrunk the kids. Another one was the angry red planet. The black hole 1979 and alien also scared me. I loved ray harryhausen movies as a kid. My favorite was 7th voyage of sinbad and the golden voyage of sinbad

One of the things that scared me the most as a kid,was back in the early 1980's and my uncle,who was a real movie nerd and had 2 vhs machines and more than 200 movies,that was a lot back then,got his hands on the old horror movie called Freaks. It was in black and white and he put in on one day,when me and my grandmother was visiting him and the movie did not scare me at all,until the final scene with the woman who had been punished by the Freaks and turned into one herself and she was on display at a circus and kept down a pit.That one scene simply scared the hell out of me and gave me trouble sleeping for weeks after.I nust have been about 7 years old back then. A few other things also scared me a lot as a small kid and to name a few,there was the scene in the Superman movie with the big evil computer,that sucks a woman inside it and turns her into a cyborg. There was Dr Satans robot,in the old black and white serial,that is being sent into a hospital or something like that,to kill a man in a bed. The one movie that scared me the most as a whole ,was and still is the first Poltergeist movie and I really wish that I had never seen it and the 2 following movies as well. I was also very scared of the car wash,back then and I can still actually have nightmares about car washes that goes berserk,even though I am 49 years old and have cars myself that I have to drive into the car wash.

Nice video about childhood trauma. Your list of scary movies and tv shows. Was great. When I was little kid. The old universel monsters use to scare me. I remember the first time. I saw A Nightmare on Elm Street. That was scary. Halloween 1978. I was a teenager when Scream came out. I was a big horror fan. Still are to this day. Happy Halloween 🎃.

Yeah, the most terrifying thing from the haunted mansion for me was always the commercials that you’d find on other DVDs like that was terrifying just hearing the voice

Good video! Fun fact: when I was like 5 or 6, my mom got me a "My Buddy" doll for Christmas...right before Child's Play came out. And don't worry about feeling weird. My childhood TV trauma came from TV idents, you know those little animated logos at the end of a show? Some of those fueled my nightmares!

It was ahead of its time and showed that teenagers with emotional issues that gain powers equal emotional wreck and the victims he leaves in his wake.

I remember as a kid I had this movie on DVD and would watch it constantly. Was most definitely my favorite movie at the time. The dismemeberment of the spider stays in my head becasue of how cool I thought it was. Good video!
