A film written, narrated & produced by Ron Trotter of the Bury Fire Brigade depicting members of the Duty Watch in 1959. Great social history! Much of the music on the soundtrack is unknown but one section is evidently a piece entitled "Sweet and Lovely" by Alan Braden (this is TRUE - below, the attribution to Alan Broadbent being the composer is FALSE; see here - th-cam.com/video/vQp0-V20eoU/w...

1967 in the USAF fire protection we stood roll call much the same way at every station house at 0730.Did it in the civilian fire service until the late 2005s or so.Changed not for the good. Ah the old days....
A couple of the local departments in my area still have a morning roll call. A couple others never did.
Great Work by the Fireman World Wide.
Mr Jack Andrew is my partner's grandfather and Percy Andrew is his great grandfather. I do the family history and was wondering if it would be possible to get a copy on DVD of the "Duty Watch (1959) that I could keep in the family history (for our son). I hope you do not mind me asking.
Apologies for the delay in responding. I'm delighted to know the video is of personal FH to your family. The video isn't available as a DVD but you could easily download it from youtube using one of several available downloaders (search the Internet for "youtube downloaders" and choose one). I cannot recommend one over another but do be careful upon installation as such services do sometimes carry unwanted software that, with care, CAN be excluded at installation. Once you have the video you could convert it to "mpeg2" from which you could make a DVD using industry available software; or convert to "mpeg4" and play from your PC. (Note: mpeg2 will also play from your PC but is less efficient than mpeg4.) Some youtube download software allows you to choose the final video format; mpeg2/4, AVI etc..
pugh, pugh, barney mcgrew, Cuthbert. dibble and grub....not forgetting captain flack. These early fire fighters were well trained with strict discipline..
This is great! I have been a firefighter in the US (Texas) for 29 years, but I was born in 1959, so it's pretty cool to see what the UK fire service was like.....um....uh....56 years ago. Suddenly, I'm depressed. Keep safe out there brothers and sisters, and everyone goes home at shift change! Cheers from Texas.
LIKE TRUMPTON
cool...we have it so much easier these days..they bred them hard as teak then.
Back in the days when Britain could be proud of her Civil Defense capabilities.
I want to be a Volunteer Firefighter eventually for my local Twp. in Michigan, United States. I admire the great service United Kingdom brings! Love your work and your apparatus! Miss the cork helmets :(
Excellent
Many thanks for this very rare work.
