That happened to me my first time there. When still water fly fishing I find that you typically have to use heavier tippet. Once I switched to 3x I didn’t have any issues.

Im guessing that was likely due to the time of day. During the fall/winter months the trout are more active during the warmest parts of the day.

Thanks for watching. This was on a section of elk. RN the conditions are very poor due to the high temps and lack of rainfall. Hopefully we get rain soon!

It is called the jeff blood rig. Basically I use a 9 ft tapered leader with an oros indicator (size and positioning depends on depth and flow), down to my first fly which is usually a blood dot egg. 8 inches above that I bulk up quite a few split shot (amount also depends on depth/flow.) 15 inches below the first fly I tie on a white death zonker.

@@alexstamop Well, you’d lose. Out here you can usually tell if it’s wild or hatchery before you get a look at it. These lake fish barely run at all.

Well some run more than others from the salt and from the lake. Another factor is the environment, these streams are usually shallower and slimmer than west coast water

Steelhead fishing is tough man! It took me quite a few years to figure it out but once I started fly fishing for them using the jeff blood rig I have been having tons of success. Here's the rig explained in detail: th-cam.com/video/h0P3B2bYrHo/w-d-xo.html

You could definitely catch them with an 8'6.

The conditions are always changing. I fished elk the Wednesday. There was a lot of fish in the creek. But the condition will change with no rain.

Yesh man u could definitely use that rod! I like longer rods as it makes it easier to mend line and fight fish but u could get the job done with an 8 foot 6. As for the conditions, they were prime last tuesday but can change very quickly if we don't get more rain soon. Good luck out on the water!

Stay home. No rain has the worst steelhead season I can remember fishing the creeks. Lake shore is shoulder to shoulder when conditions permit.

@@jjz814 na it’s not fly fishing only. All type of tackle is allowed in the majority of Eries creeks. Good luck this season!

I totally agree man! It can be difficult to fish at times but it is one of the most beautiful streams I’ve been too! Very close to home as well. We should fish together sometime 👍🏾🎣
