Good story, real people .
The people who all interacted with Cooper at close range during the 1971 hijack all too one look at McCoy's picture and flatly said "it's not him."
So, Pat Garrett made a deal with Billy the Kid that if Billy would lay low for the next 67 years until 1948 and not reveal what really happened, Garrett would murder some drifter and convince dozens of citizens to swear oaths that the drifter was Billy the Kid and stick by those oaths for the rest of their lives. Billy the Kid then assumes the identity of Brushy Bill Roberts, a local storyteller and BS artist who is known for doddering around town telling anyone that would listen fantastic tales of his daring feats as a marshal, having rode with Jesse James, and finally that he was Billy the Kid. Amazing! Now, in case anyone is wondering why some people idol-worship criminals, why some cheer for Luigi Mangione who shot an insurance CEO, why some women send marriage proposals to Charles Manson, Scott Peterson, Ted Bundy, et al... and why some folks simply cannot accept the plain and simple facts of the Billy the Kid's death. He was shot by Sheriff Pat Garrett. He had killed more than one law enforcement officer and was condemned to be hanged. Dozens of people that knew him swore that it was Billy the Kid's body. It was July and in New Mexico, deceased people begin to decompose almost immediately so Garrett had to get Billy in the ground as soon as possible since there wasn't a refrigeration unit available in 1881. He was probably starting to get ripe when he was buried the morning after he was killed. None of these people changed their story over the years. As far as Billy asking "Quien es?", Billy was fluent in Spanish, nearly everyone in town spoke Spanish, why would it be unusual for him to have spoken Spanish? The claims of the Facial Recognition Tests conducted in the 1990s have proven to be false. Why hasn't a recent Facial Recognition Test been run lately comparing Brushy Bill's photo and the real Billy the Kid's photo since the technology has advanced over the last 30 years. I will be 72 this year and I can tell you that the photo of Brushy Bill appears much more likely to be a man of 70 than a man of 90, which Billy the Kid would have been. These conspiracy theories about Billy the Kid living on are really getting to be ridiculous with speculation running wild and facts being ignored.
I will read old newspapers and listen to locals depictions of tales gladly, but anything that the History Channels name on it and I'm out, ten seconds of the program and fifteen minutes of commercials to get ten seconds of recapping are not going to keep my attention. Especially when we know how it always ends, is it true? Is it a tale? Will anyone find it? Does it exist? We don't know, but our sponsors appreciate you....that really takes your interest off the topic.
Do we know the name of the ship?
Sadly some people don’t believe Jeanne Was real but I hope she was really 122!
Idk. Do we know if the freighter picked them up? Could they have drowned?
We don’t know for sure. It could be survivor guilt and they are dead. It seems unusual that a cargo ship would just happen to see both of them. One of them maybe but both very low chance of that. I’ll have to listen more to see if they sent out a transmission. If they did, it’s possible the freighter heard it on channel 13.
@ Hey, thx for the reply! But if all three of the men were together and the other one took off to find a better source of flotation then wouldn’t it be likely the freighter spotted the 3 together? Assuming they stayed together. The phone calls are bizarre in this context.
Ridiculous to think he was Billy the kid.
Must be up Sterling Creek area….a lot of gold came out of those hills.
This is exactly like the Norfolk Four
You could hardly call him "outlaw." He was just a thief.
so weird how all large jets burn fuel by the tons per hour yet order in gallons and liters if the flight is 4 hours and burn is 4 tons per hour you are buying 16 tons plus 1 hr reserve
Hey there, new subscriber- I love your style, down to ( the beautiful ) earth ( of Arizona ), and no AI voice in sight! I hiked throughout the breathtaking landscapes of the US Southwest several times over from Europe and I every logistic and political points aside I would trade the flatlands of northern Germany for some canyon country in a heartbeat. To the case at hand: our modern functional high tech clothing surely has its downsides in terms of coolness and style, but getting propelled into the Colorado River with a heavy sheepskin jacket on isn’t on my to do list. I would like to compare some pictures of this Elisabeth campfire woman to rule her in or out on more than just a hunch, but it’s absurdly easy to loose your life in nature, and I assume that is what happened to this young couple. A pity, I would definitely have picked up her published journal or whatever story Bessie had in mind to tell us after they would have finished their honeymoon traveling.
We are so happy for another story we missed you so much. Hope youre healing well!!
Glad you're back and thanks for the story. I heard it many years ago. You added a lot more detail though so thank you.
McCoy wasnt smart enough to be DB Cooper and the parachute thatvwas found is different than what was found. Also what about the eye witnesses that actually saw DB Cooper? They all said it wasnt McCoy.
"Hello Bob. (shoots Bob Ollinger) Goodbye Bob. Best $1.80 I ever spent.
Nope, not McCoy It was Rackstraw
Glad you are doing better. Thanks for sharing.
A little tip. If it’s a two journey from where they met the man, it means people can only travel around 10-20 miles per day. By horse 20-30 miles a horse can do. This also means you can triangulate this by making a circle that distance away on Google earth and close in. I believe the spring is called Fork Spring from under rock
Glad you’re feeling well enuff to share a story. Thanx so much for all you do.
Always appreciate your efforts.best regards from nz.
Hope you feel better soon. Always enjoy listening to your stories!

Hard to believe when you consider the thoroughness of the early prospectors in that area. Chances some creek with nuggets just lying on the surface of the creek gravels is a big red flag. not a chance, then too, there is no chance that such a creek would not have been discovered again. and, practically speaking, in the 80s I was part of a loose group of snipers living in Wolf creek, or. We were all over that area in 83/85. We went about our searches systematically researching old mining claims, using old quad topo maps, old USGS mining bulletins etc. We found gold all over that border area from Elliot creek all the way over to the Kalimiopsis wilderness. I heard this story back then with a slightly different take. My mining friends and I came to the conclusion that the story was a legend and no more. A final note: The best we ever did hiking up countless streams in sw oregon and northern ca sniping with glass bottom coffee cans, a couple of crevice tools and a shovel, happened on Grizzly creek in the Trinity alps. Three of our group found 22 ozs. on the first pass in 3 days of work. Later we all get in on the hunt. I found a 61 pennyweight nugget and another fellow from one of the other 3 man groups found a 6oz nugget. in no case did anyone find a nugget setting on top of loose stream gravel. We had to work for every piece of gold we found.
Omw to find your gold. So long suckers😂
Trying to get a D.N.A bone test on brushy bill and cathrine mccarty living relatives to prove brushy bill is of no relation to billy the kid but an imposter
McCoy's was a copycat hijacking inspired by DB Cooper.
i found out about this reading about Sebastian Vizcaino. never really heard about the pearl industry. it says there were already conflicts of the coast of California in 1593. i found out about this man by researching Hasekura Tsunenaga who was a Catholic samurai who travelled the world in the early 1600s including to Mexico, and Rome where he was given a baptismal Anglo Catholic name, Philip Francis Faxicura. there's so much more that was going on that we have no idea about. it's amazing and also maddening as the info is destroyed or hidden. the info about this period between 1500-1900 i suspect is stored at the Vatican given the Catholic involvement. not trying to sound conspiracy theorist at all. it makes sense that these types of data would be what the Holy See would want to hide if you think about it in terms of what it means for reconciliation and return of lands and riches etc etc etc.
Intriguing story.

Why was McCoy considered as a suspect? Was this AFTER he performed a "copy cat" hijacking?
