Butterflies will feed on nectar from a wide variety of plants but when it comes to HOST plants, is when they are a lot more particular about what plants that they will lay their eggs on.
I think researchers in Boulder are collecting seeds from old apple trees-some may be the last of their kind.
What are the names of the beautiful plants he was featuring? I like him.
In this video I think I see Campanula parryi, hairy golden aster, rabbitbrush,California poppy, Colorado four o'clock, autumn sage, Bigelow's tansy aster, firecracker penstemon, golden columbine, goldenrod. He's showing off a showy milkweed, (monarch shot is on a swamp milkweed), Colorado/desert four o'clock, American plum,
Walk by this environmental center nearly every morning, feeling a kinship with all the beauty that you shared. There is abundance for all when we learn how to cultivate it.
One correction--adult monarch butterflies nectar from many different flowers, not just from milkweed. And many, many different pollinators will visit milkweed flowers.
We all learn when we all share. Thanks you.
