Reason? Putting my 205 build on record and helping(?!?) my motivation…. If I don’t get the work done, the vid doesn’t go out.
The pug is just the first of many, hopefully. I’ve got some pretty crazy ideas.
I hope you enjoy the journey.

Cutting up and glueing back together the dash panel, to put the standard instruments in the middle. Plus a bit of filling, sanding and an abortive attempt at vinyl wrapping. Oops. Thanks to Phoenix Vinyls for the wrap, Direct plastics for the PVC sheet and Car Builder solutions for my new heater . Cheers!! #peugeot205 #projectcars #customdash #solventweld

Im not sure about bracing the rear mount to the sump. Im a bit worried about it cracking it. Loving the build and cant wait to see it on the road.
I know what you mean, the sump isn’t the most structural component. I’ve just copied what was there from the factory. If it cracks, we’ll fix it! Cheers.
Very good content!
Thanks!
Fantastic video James always such detailed.and insightful content. Where did you learn to use a hack saw like that by the way? Very dextrous. Your project really is '..looking like a car...' so well done on that.
Thank you, Mr Lewis.
Merry Christmas Jim! Thanks for the great content, I always look forward to your updates🙂
Thank you very much for the kind words! Merry Christmas.
❤
Lookin’ good 🤩
Great progress , well done ! 👍👏
Keep doing what you are doing , good easy content to watch , similar to me in the garage just plodding around doing bits and bobs .
Thank you. Always nice to hear from a fellow plodder!!
Cracking job on the dash.
63 followers WTF. This shit deserves virality. Then again you do come across like the most boring fucker on the planet. Go Jimbo!
good work Jim. Flock it! or use 3M wrap. Carbon or aluminium is nice. Pleased you didn't glue your fingers to the dash.
Should I wrap or flock? Answers (not) on a postcard please. Completely random thought, but does anyone recognise the phone number 01 811 8055? It will definitely date you if you do!!
Great job on the linkage
Excellent work!
Hi Jim, Thanks for the shout-out. Gave me a good laugh. That is a very neat assembly you have built. Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺
Procrastinators t-shirt…. Amazing
Interesting video, what bushes did you use for the mount? I need to do something for the mounts on my 106 maxi, the standard ones are way too bulky!
They’re locost (kit car) suspension bushes. Have a look on eBay. Glad you found it interesting! Cheers.
Hi Jim, First time watching. Was commenting to myself while watching about your cad design, a piece of paper. Plasma table, a hack saw, end mill, file. By the way, draw filing naughty naughty. Then you bring out the big gun's Tig welder, drill press, and a lathe. what else have you got hiding in your shed. Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺
I’m tempted to say g’day sport, but that’s probably verging on being offensive these days. Plasma table? milling machine? Are you reading my wish list?! I’m sure you can tell that I’m somewhat limited for space. Having recently bought a house on the outskirts of London, our budget meant car/workshop space is at a minimum. I had to take the kids trampoline down to get space for the car! They didn’t really use it anymore…. I’m used to having access to much better facilities than I have now, all the hand stuff is not entirely by choice! Btw, what’s wrong with draw filing? Cheers and thanks for watching (and commenting).
@@jiminycricket9877 Hi Jim, Takes more than G'day sport to offend me. I have watched more of your videos and can tell you are a very clever chap. They are on my wish list as well. It is good to see old school hand tools in use. Draw filing was frowned upon in trade school in my youth. Don't really remember why. That was a long time ago. Keep going and growing your channel. Cheers mate 👍
Brilliant video again. What model of tig are you using for your welding? As looking for one that will do aluminium? Many thanks
Thanks very much. It’s a Stahlwerk 200amp job I’ve had for about 8 years now. It really isn’t the best but it does the job. It cost about £800 (bought it when I sold my three phase migatronic) but an equivalent machine is £250-300 now. Basically, any AC/DC tig (I’d say 200A minimum) will do the same job mine does. I would definitely recommend getting a foot pedal though, it makes life SO much easier. Cheers, and thanks again for the kind words.
Ive subbed to you 😊
Thanks!
Anything Peugeot related give Pug1Off a call, they can give you the best advice for the bracket.
I’ll do that, thank you.
wow. impressive stuff. Want to do my timing and balance chains 😁
Honest answer?
I'm here for ya brother, never let it be said a ford guy doesn't watch other builders lol
Never been a Ford chap but used to work for burtons (#burtonpower) so built built more x/flow, pinto, cvh, zebeck than anything else. Also worked at Dunton for a bit. How much more Ford could I get!! Cheers.
@@jiminycricket9877 I hear ya. I've got a series 1 RS and a series 2, both in factory condition. Had them since 2001/ 2002.
@@drfox4423 well done you. How many times have I heard “I used to have one of those, if only I’d kept it…”
@@jiminycricket9877 well I had a series 2 when I was 18 and wished I kept it so I had the chance to buy both back then so I though why not. Once a year they come out for a MOT unless it's raining then I rebook
it’s not the algorithm, my mate recommended you face to face in the pub like normal. since no-one asked; i’m here for inspiration & quiet thoughtful content with good editing. zero rizz is my favourite amount.
#wetherspoons I hope, no music distracting from the car chat? Hope I don’t let your mate down, obviously impeccable taste! Cheers.
Love the safety slippers.
Specially made with composite toes . #costco….
Loving the work Jim. Any chance you might be doing a feature on the rear beam? It’s got me very curious and keen to make something similar for my own 205.
We can certainly have a chat about that!
Excellent! The rear beam is one of the few areas on mine that I’ve yet to get around to optimising. A discussion would be great.
I'm really enjoying watching this come together.
excellent. Even throwing in a little ASMR with the lathe and grinder. I know who to bring my subframe too 😉 And you said you hadn't made much progress. 😆
Was ist Binky-Level?

Sounds interesting. Let’s see where this goes. Lee from Barum mentioned CTS, and you commented about making that boring tool. So here I am. Cheers.
That boring tool. Think it was mid 90’s?. Wouldn’t be the same if I made it now!! Cheers.
Blast I'm up to date now so I will have to wait for the next video. Glad to see I'm not the only one with a sketchy grinder 😂
Aldi’s finest!!
Who would have guessed what goes on in next doors garden 😂 Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the information on gearboxes ratios. Very interesting
Glad to help
As an owner and massive fan of 205s I'm really interested to see this develope. It sounds brilliant.
It looks like you are having no problems TIG welding through the primer. What type do you use? I've been using zinc weld through primer and my MIG doesn't like it at all, I have to clean it off where I weld.
It’s UPOL high copper content stuff. I’m no expert but a friend of mine recommended it.
Your wife sounds like a very wise woman…
She is. At least that’s what she tells me….
Nice
Cheers!
I'm enjoying the progress so far, look forward to your videos. I'm currently restoring a phase 1 306 xsi but I'm not doing the welding as I don't know how to. Keep up the good work
Thank you. I had an S16 back in the late 90’s, great car. Always thought the 306 a very good looker. Good luck with the restoration.
Safety squint !
Really enjoyed the whiteboard session Jim. (Ive got a load of variously coloured markers if you ever need them) .
Brilliant video and very informative keep them coming 😄
Thank you very much!
Nice gearbox explanation Jim.
Thank you.
Cannot wait for the classroom session.
Love that lathe
Really Looking forward to seeing this build progress. Been in the same place with my metro been building it for 5 years but life just gets in the way and it becomes the butt of jokes.
Don’t listen or beat yourself up, just keep plugging away! Cheers.
Really good job on your first video mate. A wise man (c90adventures) once said: address the camera like you're talking to your mates on the other side of the world about your latest adventures, it will help bring our your sense of humour/personality/enthusiasm more, which is ultimately (I think) what gets people to subscribe. Looking forward to the next one!
Thank you very much for the kind words. I’ll do my best but humour, personality AND enthusiasm?!? Forget two out of three, one would do for starters…. Cheers.
Hi Jim follow 205 head and engineer. Would love to see more of the rear beam setup
Tbh, I was hoping to leave the car where it is and do all the work on the front end. Would you be terribly offended if I left back end stuff until much later?
What are you planning on using the car for? I like what you've done with it except for possibly the rear suspension, is it non-independent now?
That’s right. Main reason I did it that way was ease of fabrication and mounting. A beam axle is actually pretty good - you don’t get any toe or camber change in roll. Downside is high roll centre and camber change in one-wheel bump. Tbh I just like a project, I’m not that fussed about driving! Must be my age or something. Cheers.
That rear axle would be easy to set up for FWD drag racing, I half expected you to say that was your plan. With that power to weight ratio you should give it a go if you're anywhere near Santa Pod. I remember someone years ago on the 205 GTI forum setting times there in a non-GTI 205 with a highly modified TU engine and he did surprisingly well. BTW I reckon we're probably about the same age and I still push the limits with my 205 so you'll need another excuse 🤣@@jiminycricket9877
