I like the colour palette of this deck so much. I agree there seems to be ... a disparity in "exposure" with those scales 🤣I find the human/merpeople interactions in this deck interesting - there definitely feels like there is a kind of wider sense of world-building underlying this deck about how the humans and merpeople relate to each other, which I love as a fantasy book person.

Thanks a lot for sharing the decks you currently use(d). 9:09 ... well, I don't like the devil in the Sasuraibito either. It's a just bland card. However ... cis white male patriarchal and colonial normalcy ... is a thing. And it often presents itself as unassuming, despite conjuring hierarchies, othering and dependencies. On the other hand: Naturalising and essentialising that in the portrait of a random white dude ... seems just wrong. I feel the card misses to depict the contexts. (Give him a suit and a graph of a stock price - or anything else that references the systems behind. A stylised depiction, a diagram of hierarchies in the background would have been another way to show that anybody is entagled in systems of privilege and opression - and just the favoured don't notice them.) I haven't been able to get the Gay Marseilles. However: It's a quite nice deck that's quite good in being inclusive. However ... it's also a quite busy and an expressive deck and it comes with quite a lot poltical messaging. I've yet to figure out what the deck could do in my "collection" of decks.

This is such a beautifully colorful array of decks! Oh no, that devil card would bother me too! Bummer when a deck is so creatively illustrated, but some cards feel too simple.

There couldn't be a more perfect pair than the Queen & King of Swords in this instance - "one just looks prettier" like you mentioned, and the shadow traits of both cards really come through here. One seems extremely self-assured while not boldly caring about others, and the other is great at motivating others to follow his rallying cry. Wow, the connections in tarot always amaze me!

I loved this so much!! You hit the nail on the head with how "shame-y" some of the cards are, and how not-neutral they seem. Emotional stagnation can be a good thing (4 of Cups), just like we think mental rest is (4 of Swords). I've been learning this year the difference between "check in" readings & meanings vs. "advice" interpretations, and discerning when someone (or I myself) is truly seeking advice vs. if they just need to check in with where they're at.

These are so fun 😊 I have the same issue shuffling the Sufi tarot. I would also totally use it so much more if it didn’t hurt my hands which is so sad. I still use it though. Just no where near as much as I’d like.

YES YES! Ah this is so good!! Your thoughts here also speak to the issue with calling a piece of media "ahead of its time" or "progressive for its time." For example, Star Trek TOS (which I adore) still has so many harmful and problematic elements in it as a product of the U.S. in the 1960s. But it's often given a pass because it was slightly(?) less racist and sexist than other shows on U.S. TV in that time period. It is so important to view history and products of history with critical thinking about what lens you're viewing it through. Thank you for bringing up this discussion on our often limited perception of history.
