    Thank you 🙏. I needed this video when I set up my 2.8m tank. It cost a arm and a leg to plant the tank. I looked up fish compatibility and not fish and plant compatibility and got some silver dollars 😂😂😂😂 I usually get my plants from SA Aquatic plants, but do you have recommendations for other places?

    Thanks for the review - I just bought a 70W based on this video. Im not using it though because when I did a test with the heater in a bucket, I found that the heater itself was extremely hot to the touch, like almost burnt my fingers while touching it under water! This is very different to the usual glass insulated types which get hot but wont burn you. My concern is that this heater may cause burns on my Betta who loves swimming around the current heater. What has been your experience with these heaters so far? Have you done a touch test whilst its heating under water?

    • @droeksonfishkeeping
      @droeksonfishkeeping 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Heaters should be hot, that is how they heat the water. The usual glass heaters will also burn your fingers if you touch them underwater for longer than a few seconds. Fish mostly know to stay away from them when on, they sense the heat. It can happen on rare occasions that they burn themselves against the heater especially when chased there by a bullying fish. I have one in my Betta tank and another in my Pea Puffer tank for years now and never had a problem with fish burning themselves on them. You can get a plastic heater cage to put around it, just haven't seen any for sale so you'd probably have to diy.

      @shanilgovindpershad9495 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@droeksonfishkeeping Thanks Mnr, I understand that they need to be hot to heat the water :) But what I am saying is that I never had a heater almost burn my fingers underwater and ive tried a few brands. With others you can touch them for a few secs before its too hot but this one almost feels like instant heat and that you are holding a house heater element bar. Guess I am just paranoid about shrimp that may randomly land on it and be zapped or my betta who seems to love squeezing behind the heater etc. Anyway, maybe I will give it a shot and see how it goes....

      I've tried that, didn't work. The best is to put it in a cabinet, maybe on a mouse pad (or a sponge as advised in one of the comments above) if it vibrates and of course best is just to get a quiet one in the first place

    I do like your fish tanks! I have four sponge filters, one medium and one small in both of my tanks. I can hear the "glop, glop" but it has never bothered me. Maybe after all these years I'm used to it. To eliminate my air pump noise, I have a large car washing sponge the pump lives on. It's larger that the pump, so even if it walks, the sponge hits the side of the cabinet first, keeping the air pump away from all objects. Take care.

    Your aquariums look amazing. Where do you buy your plants as I am setting up a shallow 105 liter. I'm looking for a store that sells a good range of aquarium plants in Cape Town. I normally do black water, so I generally don't use plants, or I just use very little. Once again, great video 🎥

      Thanks. I usually buy my plants from McMerwe but some also came from Pet World, Brackenfell Pets and Uponics. Mostly I just take plants from one tank and propagate in the next. After a point I didn't buy much.

    Hello, I've used mini LED spotlights for my aquarium, the plants seem to be growing fine. I'm not sure if they are being a bit slow. Is there a reason other than aesthetics to use an aquarium light?

    • @droeksonfishkeeping
      @droeksonfishkeeping 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Other than aesthetics the reason is plant growth and so that the fish can go about their normal behaviour. My plants grow relatively slow-ish since I do not use CO2.

      Juvenile will be fine but long term, depending on the shape of the tank (Angelfish need a high tank, at least 40cm 18 inches) a single one might be ok but it is a squeeze. I would rather skip the angel, they do best in a 55 gallon upwards.

    Great video!! My female angelfish was the dominant one, and she was massive. I had her for 11 years until she sadly passed away last year. How do you fish hold up in the heat in summer? I'm from Cape Town, and i lost a few mountain minnows during summer. Do you have any tips to keep them cooler? My tropical fish are fine in the heat.

    I had a community tank with six blue, three-spot, gouramis. A pair "paired off" and the male started building a nest. They spawned, and a few youngsters started growing up. The next time he started building his bubblebest, I moved them to a bare ten-gallon tank. He built another bubblenest and things looked good. I went out on a date, and when I came home, I found that they had spawned. The male had become VERY aggressive towards the female, and she hid behind the only object in the tank, the heater. She was severely burned on one side and even though I moved her to a quarantine tank, she died the next day. I learned that, so matter how well the fish seem to be getting along, things can quickly change. I needed to put at least one other place for her to hide in. I hope others can learn from my sad experience.
