RAT BASS Fishing! Only Ultralight Baitcasting Gear! Nepean River NSW
Went exploring along the Nepean River and tried out a great little spot. Was pretty far into the season already and there were heaps of rat bass around so I might catch a few bigger ones if I get in early next season.

My first land-based bow fishing session! Tons of places to do this out west where the carp seem to be a lot worse than what I'm used to. Also my first vid in a western flowing river! Got a lot more exploring to do...

Why you NEED to Swap to a Finesse Lure! Freshwater fishing early season Bass!

Chasing my favourite species! With Aussie Bass season only just starting the fish seemed to be a little hesitant to bite but switching to a finesse style lure still got me a couple.
HUNDREDS of WILD GOLDFISH! Spotted fishing from Canoe on Lake Lyell

Headed out to Lake Lyell hoping to get onto a bunch of Redfin from the canoe. Fishing wasn't great besides a few small trout but I did end up seeing hundreds of wild Goldfish just sitting near the surface!

Fishing with FROGS! BASS Session Interrupted by Huge TROUT!
That’s my local. Next time head up upstream from those big rocks that make the dam. Stick to the mountain side and there is a few cracker spots that hold good size bass
what’s you socials? keen to chat on something
Was this filmed recently?
Mind if I ask what area?
filmed quite a while ago mightve been last year actualy, lower reaches of the Nepean river
my flatty hole🥹
How far west of Sofala did you have to go to get cod mate?
not too far mate, near Wallaby Rocks bridge
Thanks mate, what time of the year do you get them in there?
posted the vid not long after that trip, only been there a couple times so not too sure
cheek meat in trout around the jaw is delicious
When the trout spill over the dam wall, when it floods, they get banged up. I'd take the trout for a feed.
Redfin taste much better than bass. Nice to too see ya release the bass :)
gotta agree mate, It’s not too often I take natives, usually happier to see them swim off to grow bigger
Where you fishing Buckwheat? Nice Video, also it is Tailor not Taylor unless u caught a bitch
Enjoyed that found on recommendations. When I was down your way traveling I used to love this kind of fishing. Don’t get it here in the uk. 😊 subbed
cheers mate, we’re lucky to have such cool species over here
Good vid mate Is that the bridge to bridge track
cheers mate, yea thats the one
Trout are back in the river now, might have to bring back the old trout catch and cook videos👍
ye mate I might have to 👍, was thinking that while the flood was happening
Nice video mate good to get the carp out of the river that’s for sure
cheers mate, sure is
Nice vid man ! I personaly enjoy fishing carp bc they arent invasive in my country but do your thing
thanks mate, i have to admit they are alot of fun to target with a rod aswell, big ones always fight hard!
Good video bro enjoyed watching it
thanks mate glad you enjoyed
Not sure if it’s allowed or not I wouldn’t say so but you could try this in Penrith lakes and I reckon you’d do pretty well in there. Lots of 70+ fish just cruise the banks
would be good to get a few, not sure how happy theyd be with me wondering around with the bow in there 😂
nice man
thanks mate
Hey Mate, What lures are you typically using to catch flatty landbased? Cheers
daiwa double clutch would probably be my favourite mate
@@bushsends6358 Thanks!
Hey mate loving the vid just wondering what rod that is?
hey mate the baitcaster is a kastking zephyr
Can you still buy the rods with the pistol grip?
yea mate, that one was a kastking zephyr off ebay
Excellent. Cheers
always looking for new spots and didnt know the area your at held so many fish in such a small space!
they certainly seem to pool up in some spots!
Where you caught that first bass was where I caught a 45 cm bass
Good on ya mate told ya that was the spot to go.
cheers mate still need to give it a go from the canoe/kayak
I saw one of those orange goldfish upstream from Wang Dam 40 years ago. Who knows what things are in our waterways.
i agree mate probably lots more than we’d expect
Never realised that was actually a pool under that spillway.. Seen it a million times.
yea not a bad spot! but I’m not sure if you’re allowed there or not now..
Is this north or south of tangalooma man?
north mate
Ya full of IT.
Thumbnail says “Redfin on the bite”, but the picture is Redfin on the bike 🏍
Do you ride your MTB down or walked back to the car park…
nah I normaly hike down
We spoke briefly some time ago about carp and bow fishing glad to see your doing it mate, good job I luv your work. And your right it should be allowed at night and they should allow the removal of carp via bow fishing in rivers like the coxs.
thanks mate 👍
Hey mate if you want some luck with bass fishing go upstream of Yarra in the lagoon side not the river side but in a kayak or canoe I did this the other day and got 5 bass all above 34 cm other than one
nice mate I might have to get the canoe out and give that a go soon, cheers
Great stuff mate, got 18 carp yesterday fishing near glossodia the place is packed with the buggers
thanks mate, and nicely done. I think I know where, remember seeing a koi coloured one in there ages ago
@@bushsends6358 yep big orange one around 90 cm was released a lot but was killed a couple months ago sadly it was like a pet haha
yea thats a shame, its not like it was doing much damage being stuck in a dam
Did you go upstream downstream upstream again or is it just cut that way?
mostly downstream that day
Hey mate do you mind sending me that spott
havnt got the exact spot mate, if you got a 4wd (with a snorkel) you’ll have to do some exploring along the Cox’s river end of Lake Lyell 👍
Woke up at 4 am to go down there today. Caught one tiny bass all day it was real slow so I just went swimming, amazing spot though so scenic. Great video👍
thanks mate, always worth heading down 👍
Brilliant.
Around 4:00 there's plenty of whiting in these mangrove trees
nice i’ll hav to go after them if i get to this spot again
Macleay valley flathead beautiful eating
What access points to get to the river?
its a long hike upstream mate, only had access because i was working there at the time
Hey mate you dont have to answer this question. But is there any chance you could give me a location on this spot
hey mate cant give away the spot but its part the nepean/hawksbury system
Is bow fishing legal?
yea mate it was made legal in NSW not too long ago. Theres a few rules worth reading up on though (only inland waters, only for carp etc.)
Hey mate how do you spell the rivers name ?
hey mate, its Cudgegong River
Heaps of bones an still taste like shit but when u are hungry
still wanna try it 😂
What’s the rules with bow fishing an where’s the best place to get one from
out west seems to have the most options, and theres a few restrictions; not in national parks, not in trout streams, only in non tidal (inland) waterways, only carp. Theres a guide online with all the rules too.
Thanks
Nice work cleaning up our rivers mate, you are getting pretty good with that bow 🏹
Do u known what bow he uses ?
@@austindunn661 no idea mate, but they are all pretty similar
thanks mate, just had to edit out all the times I missed 😂
@@bushsends6358 😅😂🤣 that is the way a bloke with true accuracy does it anyway 😅
What bow u use mate ? If yah don't mind me asking
its a junxing captain. Chinease copy of an Oneida which we don’t realy get in Aus
And I'm guessing u added the bow fishing components ?
yea mate its an AMS bowfishing reel, bolts straight on. Can’t remember the exact model
I recently bought a 2020 DRz400s, someone lowered the final drive gearing to 14/48 ...I felt it was way too low for the road, even dirt roads, plus it made 1st very touchy in the slow technical stuff. I have a 15t front I'm installing today, 15/48 should get me where I want to be...
nice, not sure why the previous owner would want to go lower than stock 😂
@@bushsends6358 The bike had all of 900 miles on it when I picked it up earlier this month. Seems like the previous owner was in the process of setting it up for dirt riding(the low gearing, cleated foot pegs, D606 tires and 3x3 mod with an open MRD exhaust). Then either crashed and/or figured out how hard off road riding is then gave up on the bike and traded it in for something else. Anyway, I pretty much have it sorted out for how I'm going to use it. I'll do a video of the build as soon as I can.
What jig are you using
just daiwa double clutch that day i think
Dont like putting carp back are u kidding?
Where is this at and if your not keen on telling that chill but I’ve just started bass fishing a lot and I go to Parra lake a lot and recently the neapen river around Penrith but want to open up my variety as I don’t get very big fish their. If you could say the general area that would be sweet👍
won’t say too much but its a fair bit up the grose river mate and a its a bit of a trek, Yarramundi where it meets the nepean/hawkesbury is probably fishing better this year anyway with since we’ve had such little rain to bring the fish upstream
