I believe a DVD cut (probably circa 2011 or) is what aired when they re-showed this film in theaters for the 25 year anniversary this year (2024) as all of the DVD-cut's content was present, and the later version of CG yoda that replaced the 1999 puppet was also in said print. I say it wasn't the 2019 version because it was not a very clean print. Perhaps the projectionist did this or perhaps it's just that way, but the version I saw again this year had very flat contrast to 'hide' the dated CG throughout the film. The podrace scene holds-up extraordinarily well on the big screen 25 years later.

As a kid I watched this on VHS. It was definitely the theatrical release because I remember rewinding little dude's explosion over and over and over because the noise he made was hilarious. I had no idea until just now that his wife and kids were at the show and now I feel bad.

Looks like the VHS release I watched many times in the early 00's was based on the theatrical cut; there's a lot in the other versions I never saw before it came onto Disney+.

@2:57 the white on the flags for the theatrical version is just superior for natural colors, everything else is gray or blue in tone and looks wrong. I mean everything here is supposed to be sand colored, which isn't blue lol. @4:55 the helmets aren't even the same color as the OG, the non theatrical ones are honestly harder for me to look at. Disney+ at least has a nice aspect ratio that allows you to see more image, its just the saturation is bad.

I just gotta say, I love how they retouched the disney+ release to have a similar color palette to the original release

I actually kinda prefer the flow of the original scene in Obi-Wan's hut. I get why they changed it, but the theatrical release just feels so awkward.
