This made me so mad I thought he was gonna give tips for real
Great video it is really difficult shooting non-league football at night, I work in Welsh Prem, and that's a challenge, but it's nice to get to some of the Vanarama grounds where they have a bigger budget for candles.
The variety of textures in the kislux pack is impressive. From smooth leather to textured suede, there's something for everyone.
Hi, I know it is old, and you started with a 450D, but what about the old but rugged 50D I am thinking initially about starting out again in sports photography after many years of being out of it (pre digital) at Leeds United in the 80s, lol I'm thinking of decent L glass instead of bodies as I only have £1,000 to invest.
Love your attitude about this bag and not caring about what people will say. kislux You are right keep your head up and no your priorities.
First, all night games are different. Last night I shoot an UEFA Nations League game with excellent light. My ISO was below 4000. Tonight I’ll be shooting a Cup Game on a 3rd league pitch. There it will be like shooting under tealight candles… and ISO will go up to 51200 🫣 but what can you do? I’m already at 1/1000 and f2.8. So I shoot RAW and use DxO to denoise the pictures. My workflow is still quite fast, so I get pictures out from the pitch. It’s just one step more in the process. But of course I prefer not to use any denoise software whenever possible. I use AutoISO only due to - as you mentioned - different light situations at the field. Since I only shoot RAW I can correct any exposure errors in post production. I’m using an R6ii and a 1DXii. My experience is that the 1DX performs better at high ISO. Both cameras start to struggle at high ISO with the AF, so you need the players to fill the frame, then it’s fine. But to be honest, I prefer night games. Much easier to shoot than day games where the sun blows out everything or the worst with artificial grass which acts as like a mirror when shooting towards the sun. (I know you should not do that, but if your a team photographer, you always want to shoot your team in the attack)
Shooting action sports at night is a big challenge. I use high ISO, and just accept the noise.
Funny I shoot auto ISO in far worse lighting (16000 ISO and higher) and have less noise than you do. It may be time for you to switch to mirrorless. I use an R6 shoot in jpeg and use the in camera noise reduction. 1DX is great during the da6 but indoors and night games it just does not compare to the R6 which is actually fairly inexpensive now especially used
Great content as usual. I shoot a lot of sports under horrible floodlights. What seems to work is to underexpose to preserve highlights and increase exposure manually in lightroom / camera raw to keep iso as low as possible. Even doing this it's not unusual to end up at 8000 iso. Current denoising software can handle that without losing much detail.
1D mark IV , or 7 D mark II? What do you recomend? Thanks in advance.
Had the Peli case you have before, but no space for the same 400 lense you own. So I invested in a think tank airport security v3.0. Holds a 400 with mounted body and a 70-200 with a mounted body. Plus a 16-35 lens and an Extender. Still space for my laptop. Itˆs expensive, but worth all the money!
Amazing Stuff Brother you're an inspiration.
Think Tank glass limo bag is great for big whites, and Think Tank streetwalker hard drive 2.0 bag great for general equipment
I use the Canon 400/2.8 plus a 1.4 converter for football. I’m using the Canon R6II, the AF works better than the 1Dx series cameras. It’s like getting a new lens.
Also use the 400 on a R6ii. Had it before on a 1DXii. Can confirm it’s a game changer.
Great video. Thanks.
Not a cheap option new but I had a similar space issue and went for a Pelicase 1560M. Great video BTW!
Maybe I could do that. Contact a club by email. I used to be in the gantry of Leeds United with my dad covering a game with a video camera. But that was 40 years ago
Fantastic video with lots of information. Just goes to show you don’t need to spend ££££s on the latest and greatest kit to get the job done! Good to see you doing videos again 🔥
you spoke from the perspective of football - but this is not only sport - so your review is limited... poor light is indoor and gymnastics sport that under 1/250 is not working - good advices though for the manual and shutter's times
Very clear info thank you
I shoot with a 70-200 and a 300mm f2.8 hanging from a dual harness with a 16-35 hanging off one of the safety straps and I hand carry a 400mm.
Good video, thanks for the tips. I always shoot JPEG for daylight games and RAW under the lights and use gentle AI noise reduction in Camera Raw.
How does your client expect you to know who each player is?
This is great! I saw the thumbnail and went that’s Crewe I knew immediately! 😅
Great tips thanks as a beginner
Still shoot on my 1dmk3
thanks for this Talru! I shoot regularly in poor light at non league pitches, and always try to shoot 1/1000 when possible. The ISO goes up to 12800 and scared as hell to push it more! I also have trouble deciding what WB to use, and whether to use luminence or not. Keep up the good work, look forward to the next vid!
Did you really say soccer..? Come on, you’re British, from the motherland of football! 😉
Got the canon 1dmk2 for 40 dollars this week, gonna get the canon 1dx mk2 soon
thank-you for this great video! A question in your code replacement, does a backslash at the end auto complete the code ... it went to fast for me to pick up the answer I put the last backslash in quotes 'cause thats where my question is all about ie \w22\. ty!!!
Lightroom's updated Denoise is so helpful with grainy photos. You have to find the right balance with it, though, or you'll end up with some creamy, even AI-looking images.
I was about to buy a used 90d for £700, but I saw them new in Poland for the zloty equivalent of £900. They are still £1299 new in the UK.
Wait. Do you play Dota 2 on Mac Book Pro?😮
Cannot hear, voice recording is slow
I am Cliftonville FC Official Photographer a team in the Irish League in Northern Ireland.I shoot Nikon D5 with a 200-400MM F4 and 70-200.There is no greater feeling that a win and that special Photograph from the match.
1.6 crop is fantastic only the build quality off canon is so poor
In my country things are changing and i saw 1dx mk3 has higher price than r3 .,,, In my case i have lot of dslr cameras in collection., I have Canon the most ., I hate evf in mirrorless cameras ..
Thank you for the video tutorial, I’m a novice photographer, upgraded my camera last year to an R7 and recently purchased a 24-105 f4 usm rf and I will be taking my first lot of photos at a charity football match in just under 2 weeks and this has been extremely helpful! Thank you so much!
i really thank you for these tips, im a new photographer using a 550d and a canon EF 75-300mm lens, and i didnt really know what would be good settings, but this video helped me out so much (i changed them a little because i photograph planes and need to see the propellers spinning on the picture, but yeah) thanks again, your a legend👌
I come from old-school chemical photography and I always felt something was lacking somehow in digital photography, on all the brands and all the models, UNTIL I bought a 1DX. Finally, I was "home" again. It's a perfect mix of old-school tactile ergonomics and an ability to shoot anything anywhere with great digital quality. Yes mirrorless is all the hype nowadays (and technical wonders) but I personally feel it's like we are going backwards again.. I will stay on 1DX as long as they can be bought on the second-hand market
Do you know much about Dropbox and the compression of files? I'm looking into Dropbox as my cloud solution but I'm worried that my files will be compressed and lose the quality - has this happened to you? Do you know any settings to avoid this happening? Great video! :)
Here’s a great tip, get a low mega pixel full frame high fps camera with a large aperture fixed lens of 1.4 high or zoom 2.8 problem solved
You said, that there were no interesting shots outside. What would be an interesting shot? PS: Awesome Video, thanks for the insights, keep it up!
very usefully information. Thanks.
12:30 ... Watermarks can be removed without generative fills and all the AI stuff for many years. It's a pointless thing UNLESS you know how to make a transparent one that can be seen if you throw off the contrast so it appears or utilize a negative effect. Otherwise it's just useless to even use unless you're an extremely large well known business. The best watermarking is getting your content uploaded and the time and date from the platform like the post date will suffice. Sucks but that's just how it is.
Do you have a video like this for now, after covid? Am looking for tips on how to capture a goal with a 70-200. In my case very liberal access, very limited spectators so players don't yet run towards the crowd. Swedish women's 2nd division for context. So far only one camera, and sometimes a hipster analog. So normally, with 70-200, behind the goal and to the side, I get the player making the shot but the goal isn't in the picture, or the ball is in the goal but the striker is not in the picture
There is currently on MPB uk a 1DX mk1 with a shutter count of 1,613,968 and all yours for 349 quid! I worry about mine on 39,000 shutter count. The 5DS R/5DS should get a mention, I have both and frankly, are amazing in pretty much everything.
Got my 1dmk3 for around 50 pounds /dollars or so. In prestine condition. Complete in box.
Canon EOS r6 costs less than 1dx Mark ii in EU used (I paid <1200€). So I wouldn't consider anything Higher priced than 800€ (1dx IS the best Budget choice in my opinion). Ibwould Love the same Video fir lenses. Have fun Shooting.
This is what I needed to watch. I'm just starting out as a sports photographer locally in my area and have been hired to do some local games mostly football but a little cricket too. Question though, as I obviously want to improve, wen shooting for a team, do you solely focus on them? And how do you position yourself on the pitch side to be able to capture the best footage?
