Ever wondered exactly what all those people are doing on stage between bands? Here' a look at changeover from one band to the next. I take care of changeover music, helping the support band packdown and then plug in everything else that we have to get on stage during the changeover. Like this? let me know if you want to see more.

Balance and Composure - Quake (Cover)
มุมมอง 2.9K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Guitar and Drums cover of Balance and Composure "Quake" I do not own any rights to this song. Bred out of lockdown boredom and a need to create. Hot Takes are music cover recordings with a No Cuts, No Edits & No Samples approach. A No Bullshit series of videos with the intent to just enjoy music free from perfectly directed, curated and compiled videos with takes that don't match up. (It's also...
Really highlights how important it is to be confident in your ability and know your gear/approach inside and out. Really enjoying these videos fella, absolutely crushing it !!
The show must go ONN
Just want to ask how do you mix the vocals, I am happy with the instrumentals and got some knowledge as a beginner audio engineering for how a metalcore song is mixed live👍🏻
Might be something I can explore in a future video!
New goal - make the edit of one of these vlogs. Hope you roll through portland again soon!
Appreciate that, hope to get back to Portland soon!
These desk mixes sound insane. Love the vlog!
Thanks so much for watching! And stoked the live mix translates
sick video as always Joel! I love that you include when something goes wrong and still take the time and make a video about it - at the end of the day it is part of the job, however a video is a lot of effort and the text animations to explain whats going on :) seeing that the band also appreciated the venue change in Houston is a nice touch As I said, I know how much goes into making these videos, so thank you for doing them (the different camera angles are so much fun to watch) I cannot wait for erra to come back to europe hoping you will be there too and I can say hello :)
As always, thanks for the comments and kind words
2.55 sick live mixes
Thanks!
Awesome video! What kind of connector / cable are you running from the split in the monitor rack?
@@seanbdrums connector is a 150 pin . (Brand is likely LK, but I might be wrong)
@@joel_adamsFOHsound Gotcha, I though so, looks like an LK connector anways haha. Thanks!
great stuff Joel 🙌 helps that you're touring with one of my favourite bands as well =) just wondering, i guess you're doing all IEM mixes from FOH as well ? maybe you covered this before, but how are you splitting/doing the drums for the IEM mixes? ie. are all the drum outputs going to some kind of splitter first ? or you doing everything from FOH ? thanks
Probably didn’t cover it tooo well in this but. All stage inputs (including drums) go to the band first. We have an m32c that mixes their IEMS, then a split goes to me on the dlive
@@joel_adamsFOHsound ok cool, that makes sense, that's how we run things apart from drums (FOH sends us a stereo feed to our mixer) we just run vocals/guitar/bass + backing tracks through our XR18 with a splitter
That’ll work! I love both ends just having independent control of everything
@@joel_adamsFOHsound for sure, having independent control of IEM mixes these days through your phone is crazy good
Who mixes Erra? @joel
Me
@@joel_adamsFOHsoundGot it
That bass is filthy in all the best ways
Agreed!
What are you doing?
awesome video! just next time sync that video and audio perfect 😬😝
Haha, thanks. It's not always easy to keep everything perfectly synced.
i was at the anaheim show. these guys crushed it
Loved that show!
@@joel_adamsFOHsound not to be dramatic but i think it was the best concert ive ever been to. invent animate went fucking HAM too
Hey bud I had a question. Do you ever have to worry about the mix sounding different when the venue is packed compared to when it's empty during soundcheck? If so, what changes and how do you mix accordingly to those situations?
9/10 it’s mids and high mids that will change here. Learning not to take too much out of the p.a when tuning is the main thing. Your vocals and guitars love here so you’ll notice it pretty quick
D live nice choice
Great console with a lot of possibilities!
Awesome video man. Keep em' coming because i'm really struggling to mix live bands sometimes !
Thanks! Just gotta keep practicing. Every show counts
Thanks a lot for these videos Joel, as an aspiring live engineer in training they're really great ressources (recommending them to my classmates all the time lol) ! I wonder, could you do this same format for Erra ? Also, if you don't mind me asking, did you mix their show in Karlsruhe (Germany) this summer ? The lights were pretty dim and I'm not sure if it was you, sounded sweet 👌
Thanks for watching and showing your friends! Means a lot. Regarding erra, it’s something I could maybe do in the future. Really need to have the console in front of me as well but nothing planned currently Unfortunately I couldn’t do erra’s Europe shows as I had other commitments.
Man.. I wasn't sure.. But that was you at the FOH ! I was next to the console ! Sick show in Paris btw
Aye that was me! Thanks for coming to the show. That was one of the best!
I am gonna see them on friday!
We’ll see you there !
snare bomb tutorial coming next surely. Love your work Joel
Haha I think bombs are overrated but I could put one in
Dude Naiceee
Thanks! 😁
Your videos are amazing!! Thank you!
Thanks for watching! I appreciate the kind words as well!
Excellent walkthrough +100 reverb points
Haha thanks for watching!
If only i had access to a live multitrack like this for training.. i will lost myself mixing for hours 😂
Do you have a live mixing console at your disposal? If so get out and record a show! Everyday is a new lesson
If the band and the production allow me to, i will do that for sure next time !
make a video on your effects, and a boom snare! :D
Maybe one day!
Great video, keep up the banger content!
Thank you! Plenty more on the way
what amp does the guitar player use? there's a good amount of brightness to it but no harshness
Probably a Quad Cortex as well
Yeah it’s a Quad Cortex amp modeler.
sickkk thanks!
What an awsome insight man 💯, love what yalls movement is doing!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching.
This is so good! 🙌🏻 would love to see how you like to go about routing, inserts, and Sub + LR.
I feel like routing can be pretty boring but it’s something I’ll consider for sure!
Great video, i totally agree with what your talking about. The last gig i had was basically in a Long concrete box. I just couldnt get any clarity out of the guitars as it was so washy and the SNR was so loud. But its at the end when people are saying about how great the show was that makes it worth it. Even the singer of the band who can be a right pain sometimes came up to me and said "apprently the sound out front was amazing".
Thanks for watching and It sounds like you did all the right things and remained focussed on putting on the best show. Congrats!
GOAT
☺️
I love that sweatshirt i need it Arkangel is my favorite Thornhill song of theirs.
Arkangel rocks
Let’s go I see Thornhill in the title ahh I love them can’t wait for them to announce another tour next year in 2025.
Thanks for stopping by! What will they announce next 👀
I am currently stuck on a train in the middle of nowhere when I got the notification for this - mood's already better, thanks joel so interesting to watch, even if I won't ever touch audio 😅 Again, I love the little visual edits you add when the sound changes 🤩
Enjoy!
Love these videos man! Hoping to see you down in Hobart next year 🤟
Hopefully see you there!
You are actually right.. there is nothing you can do about mixing in reverberant spaces.. but increasing the ratio of the direct sound to the reflected sound works.. meaning adding more speakers that are perfectly time aligned can Improve mixes in reverberant spaces, my opinion though
the sound of that snare on studio version brought me here
Solid!
Thank you!
what does the light truss consist of? can you tour the lightign trusses? new sub here, loving the content
Thanks for watching. I’m definitely no lighting tech so I’ll try help but we travelled with 6 lighting carts for easy wheel on and off stage. Each one has a Tornado, a blinder, an LED strobe and some pixel bars.
Great video Joel!
Thanks for checking it out!
Awesome video !!
Thanks for the visit!
can we get nerv? 🐐
Will try!
Hi, its nice to see this. Just one question. Is the left guitar a backing track, or a delayed/processed right guitar?.
It’s a pre recorded track using same tones used live and tracked in one take to have the same live performance feel.
thanks for the work/production and sharing these, bottling the touring experience into something that has such a cinematic feel is no small feat, kudos 🙌
Thanks Paul! Having a lot of fun collecting memories and having others enjoy them is a bonus.
Top tier content
Thank you!

Killer vid man, love to see it.
Thanks legend! Appreciate you watching
Sick colour grading and desk mix sounds huge!!
Thanks mate! Hope you are well
Sick. Damn I'm bummed I didn't go to the San Diego show, I live in San Diego and still haven't been to The Sound. Cheers!
I would attend shows there any chance you can get. Great sounding room
