This is an excellent question. So, at least so far, what I could investigate was that the reshade uses the HLSL (High Level Shader Language) to help games or visual apps look better. This is used on DirectX app via the d3dcompiler_47 DLL file which did not exist till around 2012. So only games that effectively use the d3dcompiler_47 DLL file or have it included in an update can in theory use shaders. I did also find mapping for DX8 and DX9 to before 2012 but it looks like those are not direct, nor use an efficient workaround, ending up in an old game that lags. So basically the rule could be that if the game does NOT have d3dcompiler_47 or the engine supports it, it would be very hard to use shaders with that game. With that said, if we look at the Underworld game for example, it is from 2008 (4 years before the earliest case of the d3dcompiler_47 DLL file showing anywhere near DirectX. I was not able to find the other one but you get my point. If you do a search on a steam library for the file "d3dcompiler_47.dll" a bunch will show up and that guides us in telling which games will most likely support reshade, since it all boils down to the game literally supporting HLSL.

@@xtremelinux There are 4 settings in the gameworks part. The last 2 can be used on any GPU but the first 2 are nVidia only. The 2 effects are the "paper/cloth" effect and the volumetric particle system effect. Search for Arkham Knight gameworks trailer and you'll see the extra effects in action. I'm trying to enable it on Proton without success...

Looks like this has been an ongoing issue between the game and Nvidia, to the point that several years ago an Nvidia update disabled the Fog related gameworks for the game because they were causing many crashes for gamers. They did however leave the rain options there. I enabled those 2 and they work, but the issue is not a Linux / Proton one, but a game engine + Nvidia one. There is also ongoing work with DXVK and Wine about this topic for this specific game.

Para tu caso especifico seria www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/Z790-AORUS-PRO-X/support#support-childModelsMenu (Donde tienen la 1.0, 1.1 y 1.12). Seleccionas la que es exactamente la tuya, bajas el firmware y actualizas esa mobo. 2. Determinar que modelo de dispositivo de red tienes. Para la mayoria de los casos que he trabajado con problemas se creo este articulo de Broadcom askubuntu.com/questions/55868/installing-broadcom-wireless-drivers o de Realtek askubuntu.com/questions/1423298/ethernet-controller-realtek-r8125-not-working-with-kernel-5-15 donde se habla de como detectarlo e instalarlo. En tu caso, sigue los pasos de la respuesta encontrada alli para al menos detectar el modelo usando el comando lspci. El comando lspci tiene una forma de ser muy especifico. De acuerdo a eso ya sabremos cual driver instalar en caso que sea proprietario o poder diagnosticar porque esta fallando en caso que sea open source. Hasta aqui dejo mi respuesta inicial para crear esa base y poder ayudarte luego. Un bonus es instalar el kernel 6.10, o al menos el 6.10.2 como maximo desde kernel.ubuntu.com/mainline/

​​@@xtremelinuxI can't see the launch parameter as it's so grainy in the video. Maybe put it in the description but a word of warning, if you are setting your FPS other a max of 290 then you are going to have performance issues and input lag in Apex as the engine only supports 290fps as a maximum. I'm getting 144fps but not consistent on Linux whereas I hit that consistently on Windows.

@@JasonEspin Thank you. Did you set the resolution quality to 2K+ on youtube for this video since the video is 4K? Also I set the FPS to 5000 but there was no input lag of the sort. Apex Legends also had several 350 to 400 spikes (Without talking about the spikes on the launch and load screens). Lastly, if the fps parameter is not set, it stays at 144 because that is my refresh rate. Does the same thing if I set it to 120 or 60 the refresh rate. So to clarify, the 290 based that you mentioned looks like it is not enforced on Linux or at least Ubuntu 24.04 because on several areas I get above 350 as seen on previous videos for example this last month. For the linux part, which distro are you using? Might it be Arch or Garuda?

@@xtremelinux It's not that it can't go over that made, it's that the game performance like crap over 290 fps. The engine isn't meant to handle anything above that.

@@JasonEspin sounds like the same issue with fallout 4, dishonored franchise and others based on their engine.

It does, but I am not using it. The lowest I can go is with an Nvidia 1080 that I have on the older PC. This is because enabling the integrated CPU graphics card would force me to do other stuff with Nvidia.

Made a video about it. But note that for lutris, it would need to be handled with the launcher parameters that reshade mentions.

@@xtremelinux Thanks man, did you try gshade as well? I find it very nice and easier without need to setup any environmental variabiles (at least with pes2021).

I understand you, but note that you can simply install it as default, this is for the ones that want to compile it. But you can simply install it and then follow the 2nd half of the video. As easy as that.

Oh thats the AVERAGE, not the current FPS at any given moment. That is a fluke because the main menu jumped to that amount.

Hola amigo, pudiste probar como lo hago en el video, compilandolo tu mismo? Pregunto porque en Ubuntu 24.04 si funciona. Funciona dentro de Lutris, funciona con los juegos de steam dentro de lutris y funciona con los juegos en wine directamente y con los de Epic Game store.

Si funciono, no tuve que compilarlo, solo lo agregue como una environment variable, como mostraste en la ultima etapa del video y luego de reiniciar la pc funciono, para todos los juegos, gracias!

I plan to switch on Linux next year when Windows 11 comes to an end. Valve is putting effort into Proton and yeah work around may be a pain but that's the way of life. We don't like it but we're actually doing it without knowing doing compatibility issue fixes with Windows XP/7/8/10/11 outdated softwares so it's just the same as Linux. I'm an AMD user so majority isn't an issue compared to NVIDIA open sourcing their driver recently but some of my beloved games are the only thing but by the time I switch my beloved online games conflicting with anti-cheats are almost little to no issues by that time. I was doing research and that's how your video pop up into my recommendations.

The mangohud is this one th-cam.com/video/0Epd7IfA7xY/w-d-xo.html&lc= The VKD3D means the game engine is using DiectX 12 and yes, the FPS value next to it is the current FPS at that moment. If it said DXVK then it would mean that the game engine is either using DirectX 8, 9, 10 or 11.

Could it be that Lutris uses a wrapper of some kind for the whole environment of a game?

Sure thing, although the video I would be making would be for Ubuntu, but the steam and video driver installation would be the same for all distros.

It is possible but Ubuntu will officially recommend Wayland on Ubuntu 24.10. So I am just waiting till Ubuntu 24.10 to start testing Wayland vs X11 and the performance implications between both on gaming. Remember to subscribe to the channel for the prize game.

I recon but the time we get to 26.04, there won't be anything X11 still does for a desktop scenario that Wayland would not do better. Just look at 2024, like how it started and where we are at the middle of it. Holycow!. In theory, Wayland should even provide better FPS values, lower latency, less or no stuttering and other video benefits that X11 is impossible to offer. Still, when Ubuntu 24.10 comes out I will benchmark it again and see the FPS values of many of the games we have tested so far. To see if 24.10 brought better improvements to gaming, worse ones or anything in between. In regards to the channel I was asking because the youtube studio shows you as not subscribed for some reason, but everyone else that has left a comment has the little "Publicly subscribed" flag to them. I am guessing I would need to figure out how to change the code to add everyone else not subscribed too.
