#069 Mark Hocking
Mark Hocking runs a business with a focus on special vehicles. His great joy is finding unique and special cars for his clients nd much of this is a result of moving to Japan in the 90s.
This story has many more twists and turns, especially in the mountains of Japan. When you mention touge, Wangan, Top Secret, HKS and see a glint in his eye, you know that this will be a great story!
I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did.

Holy freaking Christ... Do I see a 1970's BMW 3.0 CSL? It's difficult to miss that paint job. So cool. ❤
Good spotting! You certainly do. That's a nut and bolt restoration only recently completed
@@wearekltdThose are, to my eye, unmistakable colors. I think my heart skipped a beat. Hehe

Funny that 😅 my jam is watching ale work on cars 😊
have you welded sheet metal over the hole?
Correct
Apparently fast 😂. Try insanely fast.
Yeah, it's off its head
My biggest qualm is the data. Although, there's no privacy regs managing cars at this point so it's not just the Chinese ones that harvest info from you. They save money via cheaper manufacturing labour as they do for every other thing they make, and copy designs and engineering. Less R&D overheads to cover. Hence the things are cheaper. I'd also want to see some crash test footage. But I still wouldn't buy one because nobody makes proper station wagons these days.
Also the fact the Chinese government is funding these companies
There seems to be this odd thing in Australia about "cheap Chinese shit" when it comes to cars. When in fact they are far from it these days and are fast becoming the default decision for a lot of people, not only because of very competitive pricing, but the inclusion of features you'd only find in more expensive cars and on top of that a lot of them getting the 5 star ANCAP ratings. The same used to be said about Japanese and Korean cars way back. At some point people are just going to have to embrace Chinese vehicles, they're not going away.
It's funny, I'm old enough to remember how the Japanese, then Korean cars were treated the way. Now they are part of the mix and as you suggest, so will these. As I said, it's a good car to drive
@@wearekltd yeah, it’ll be interesting to see how the market shifts. Especially since now we have no Aussie manufacturing. I do think a lot of other manufacturers will have to consider pricing on their new vehicles, especially EVs if they want to stay competitive.
I been there it was amazing
Incredible spot isn't it
