Your MCI is unique to you
More and more, I find myself avoiding the term mild cognitive impairment. Because MCI is anything but mild. But we've still got to call it something. And who better to define it than the people who have it? So I asked you, how do you talk about MCI? What do you call it? I got many thoughtful responses, but one answer stood out, and that's what I share today.
My recent video asking "What if we didn't call it 'mild' cognitive impairment? is here:

My book, "I Want My Mind Back: The Go Cogno Approach to Halt or Reverse Mild Cognitive Impairment," is available as an e-book or in paperback on Amazon. You'll find it here: www.amazon.com/dp/B08PTMLW84

Choosing how we talk about MCI
มุมมอง 3443 ปีที่แล้ว
Mild cognitive impairment is a lot of things, but one thing it's not is mild. I'm finding that more and more lately, when I write about this cognitive condition you're facing, I drop the word "mild" altogether and just talk about cognitive impairment. That's what I discuss in today's video, and I'd really like your opinion. Get my book, "I Want My Mind Back: The Go Cogno Approach to Halt or Rev...

When negative thoughts overwhelm you
มุมมอง 1843 ปีที่แล้ว
Did you know that we have anywhere from 12,000 to 60,000 thoughts a day - and 80 percent of them are negative? Here's a healthy way to cope with that. Step outside yourself. Think what you would say to a friend or family member who was going through something really difficult. And then talk to yourself that way. In short, be your own best friend. See my recent video on the importance of self-ca...

Why treating Alzheimer's won't be like the COVID vaccine
มุมมอง 843 ปีที่แล้ว
Doesn't it feel great to get the COVID vaccine? Just to know that you're protected against a terrible, potentially deadline disease. Wouldn't it be great if we could say the same about Alzheimer's? Someday we will. But it won't be like the COVID vaccine. It will be different. And I think it's important to understand how it will be different, and why. (Editor's note: Jeff does want to clarify on...

How to get referred to an MCI specialist
มุมมอง 2273 ปีที่แล้ว
The treatment guidelines for MCI say if your doctor doesn't have deep knowledge in cognitive care - and few primary care physicians do - then you should be referred to a specialist. But what if that hasn't happened for you? Then it's time to be an advocate for your own care, and ask for that referral. Or find a specialist on your own. Here's how. Do you have a true diagnosis for your MCI? For t...

Helping families better cope with MCI

When families talk openly about these issues and understand what each other a...
