This show was so shaky at first that when I first tried it I bailed during episode two. But I am so glad I came back. Some of the most heartfelt and encouraging episodes I’ve seen are on this show.

Iv always hated Geoffrey as a character. He always acts so superior to everyone else, constantly starts fights with the other members, irrationally blames everyone except himself for mistakes, and yet he was always the one that gets praised. Ngl, that's a bad take. The better take to make would've been about how AI, unless fully sapient/sentient won't have the ability to adjust to situations outside its parameters. If the AI ship did the scan and it's initial scans found no possible traces of sentient life and continued on then the ship did what it should've done much like a crew if their own scanner picked up the same lack of results. If, however, there were possible trace scans and it didn't do a follow up like is required then that's bad programming much like a person not getting the proper training. In this Instance, the AI ship would mostly likely work better as a skeleton crew vessel, mostly operating in routine tasks but with a small crew contingent in the possible instance of abnormal situations.

As much as they try to suppress their emotions, it’s the little things they say, and certain actions you’d miss, that show some Vulcans can make emotional decisions. Albeit, is a reserved logical way. The execution is just different from humans. More brain over the heart. Where humans are capable of both logical and emotional decision making.

So...? A calculator doesn't understand taxes it still adds them up just as well. In fact you could make that argument about anything.

Earnestly one of my favourite pieces of sci fi writing with the plot for this episode. Whatever the strict "accuracy" is, every step of the way makes perfect sense as it's explains, and dovetails perfectly into a simply spectacular set piece that has the crew working on the scale of a ships crew, and employs one of my favourite beats when it comes to sci fi or honestly just anything involving equipment of any kind going beyond what it's established to be able to do that being sure we can technically do it, but this would be dicey as hell in perfect conditions and these conditions aren't perfect That's just true of a ton of stuff irl. The only flaw is one the writers themselves spot and do their best to kinda paper over which is when kayshon brings up "why can't we just warp past the debris field" and everyone starts yelling at him, presumably all giving reasons why that would be suicidal but conveniently excusing the writers from actually having to come up with it since everyone is talking over each other And like i get it, they could have come up with something and had the crew actually explain it but it seems like it got cut down for pacing. Peak fucking fiction love it

There's also the issue that no matter how correct an AI is if a human does not fully understand the process or result they will distrust and try to rebel. Most notably this happened when Data was given temporary command of a ship while starfleet was trying to find a romulan ship. Data deviated from the plan because his thought process gave him a different method and as a result his second in command kept trying to mutiny and undermine him. Data was right, and he did find the ship that was sneaking past the blockade. But because he failed to communicate his perspective everything almost failed

Actually what I love about this episode in particular is how it showcases how good boimler is. Like I'm sure you're aware of William Boimler, his transport clone. Dude is already the captain of his own ship. But the thing is. Is that he's an EXACT copy of Boimler and not some variant. Meaning Boimler is destined to become a captain hopefully one of a proper ship and not some secret division captain bc he looked miserable🤣🤣🤣
