Team Dynamics: Balancing Expectations and Boundaries
I drove for a company out of Utah 1994-95 that wouldn't get drivers home when requested. Drivers would be headed in the right direction and instead of getting a load to or through the house they'd be headed in the opposite direction. Drivers sometimes would have to threaten to quit in order to be headed home. This caused some to miss their VA doctor's appointment. One doctor got so fed up he told the driver to catch a plane home and he'd send the company the bill. Oh, but you could take your time off anywhere in the country and a good number of drivers liked taking there time off Las Vegas. I knew a couple of drivers who'd stay out long enough to accumulate a week off so they could go hunting or fishing. For every wee out you got a day off. At another company we got a a day and a half off for every week out.
P.T.O- Prepare The Others, because my ass won't be there
It is fair to other people because they also want time off when they ask for it.
I think it’s funny that this scenario depicts an office worker when the original audio is regarding retail 😅
No the request is to notify you so you can plan accordingly around that time paid off.
Managers suck, it’s insane how little they understand about human interactions and thought
"Manager privileges, boi."
Power trippin.
After an exchange like this, start shopping your resume around.
I think everyone has been there at least once.
My huge red flag at a job interview was getting there 20 minutes early and the manager was so busy talking to a friend that the lady at the front desk left twice to remind him. Finally after 40 minutes, he welcomed me in… had NONE of my information pulled up and then told me that it’s a salaried position and I would be making $40k/ year for HR and administration. Just listening to him spiel on it was clear he had no business owning a business because I would be in charge of what he was supposed to be doing.
.......and then they quit....
Oh god 😆 I literally went through this exact situation getting my first real job. Went in expecting a part time job as a baker/cake decorator, and it ended up being baker/cake decorator/cook/barista/etc with the wildest schedule. Me being fairly clueless and naive, I took the job. While I was happy to finally have official job experience to put on my resume (and I sure learned a lot of what to watch out for in the future) I was even more happy when COVID caused them to close permanently, allowed me to be free of that mess, and get some unemployment
As a person who’s worked some pretty scummy jobs trust me they will totally do stuff that is either borderline illegal or actually illegal. One job only gave you a ten minute on the clock break for working 8 hours and when I brought it up that it was illegal to do that they said and a quote “Half an hour or an hour lunches off the clock are only if your a 16-18 years old working a job.” aka ladies and gentlemen complete bullshit and if I had the money to hire a lawyer I could have 100% sued their asses.
I would have let him write me up then gone to HR and threatened to sue. That would have been a lawsuit. Once an employee is off duty it is on the employer to update them with any schedule changes, what’s more it is highly unethical and unreasonable to change the schedule under 24 hours without written or verbal notice to those it effects. This can and does lead to wrongful termination suits. As a manager if I had tried that shit my company would have had my ass.
Would of walked out right then and there. "Good luck with the schedule!"
This is exactly how guys deal with obnoxious, abusive demanding managers. Simply take our rightful employment choices in a way that creates problems for those causing us problems. That way, if the issue comes to a head, we can show the manager as having unreasonable expectations making his behavior the focus of our manager's manager.
Millennial thinking
And? Jobs can't expect to change schedules willy nilly bit expect me to give them 2 to 4 weeks heads up about any requested days off.
You mean giving LESS than 12 hours notice right? Not the obvious about not being expected to show up to the wrong time
@@Tony29103 yeah pretty much
They legally have to give 24 hour notice of a shift change in like every state
I had a job in high school that did this. (retail of course) Manager literally didn't notice all week that he was short staffed on a Saturday. I got a call at noon. Manager was furious and telling me that was getting written up, and I needed to get over there. I told him i dont work saturdays. I have never worked saturdays. It was a well known fact, I dont do saturdays. But I did work every friday. He pulled this same skit. Just about word for word. What was differant and what I got justifiably get angry over was: This guy called me up to tell me I was in trouble, but couldn't take the time to call me up when the sceadule changed? He didn't ask if I could, didnt notify me of a change, but man did he feel justified to try and punish me for not knowing. I got the first and last laugh on that guy. Quit over the phone. That place is closed now
I had a Dollar Tree do that. Only reason I couldn’t leave was because nobody would hire me. I was in Dallas for the weekend and my boss calls me to tell me I’m late. Told them I couldn’t make it back to Austin and that I took a picture of the schedule. I even sent the picture with the same highlights they emphasized. They didn’t care; I should’ve checked the schedule in the locked office before I left town. Crap got so bad when I eventually did find a temporary job that got me out of there. I guess I was the straw that broke the camel’s back because two weeks later I returned for party supplies and everything was fixed and the back stock was receding back into the back. The entire staff was replaced.
Like what do folks expect if they dont communicate that? Like folks are gonna quit if you make changes without them being able to see it. Happens with every job.
@@joeyghostx And they refuse to put the schedule online and say it’s a ME problem??
@@GoldPrince2468 Oh exactly! Like how is someone so incompetant a manager is beyond me?
@@joeyghostx Isn’t there a theory that if you’re too good at a job you get promoted until you reach a job you suck at? I think that was my District Manager because she fumbled 5 stores and it trickled down to the idiots managing me. The staffing issue was so bad I could count how many times I was alone in my store with a broken computer and a long line on both hands. When the managers dipped we get someone from Memphis come in and ghost me. Our resident HOMELESS MAN was sent out to retrieve her so the store could get people out the door.
This was a issue I had alot with my old boss at a kroger store.
Not my problem if u changed it less than 48 hours prior schedule
So true!!!
The funny thing is that they can't do that you can actually talk to your lawyer about this and they can get in trouble
Yes... that's actually very well known. The video was just making fun of this fact, as they'll still try to pull stuff like that.
Time to move on and look for an other job !
Modern employers try running out as much work out of employees as they possibly can
"you should roll with the punches." "oh, so it's a fight you want? Fair enough."
My micro manager was fond of this saying. As well as ‘it is what it is’ when questioned
Unfortunately, I had to do that in the office as a manager. After working out the average time all tasks should (reasonably) take a week per employee was approximately 20 hours when they were getting paid for 35.
"Oh, that's fine! I just won't come in five hours next week and you pay the normal amount."
Just remember, they won't give you notice when you're let go. They deserve the same 'courtesy'.
Hey, there's nothing wrong with making sure how much you'll have left. It's better to seem silly and ask to make sure you don't go into the negative than to not check and bounce payments all over the place.
lol
Happens all the time. Then management can't understand why the employees get burnt out from overtime, pressure.
Surprise! I treat you like you treat me!
These women aren't ready for prime-time.
Eat the rich
Face it. The company would never give PTO. And work you 6 days a week at 12 hr days if they thought they could get away with it.
The heck with pizza, swag etc. Give me cash
These are pretty funny.
I have told many bosses I am not asking your permission I am informing you I will be gone. And every one of them knew if I didn't have a job when I got back that was absolutely fine with me. And not one of them ever fired me for using my time.
Company: you get PTO Employees: *use it Company: how dare you!
I worked for the State of Oregon and they required us to work 15 min before shift unpaid. I challenged and won but then was punished horribly and my abusers still work at Gladstone DMV Oregon.
“Can’t wait to not be here”🤣🤣🤣 I felt that in my soul
this channel is ready to blow up any moment. keep making these please!
I always gave notice knowing I’d be terminated on the spot. Only one company, Procter & Gamble asked me to stay on for the two weeks so they could fill my territory. I was happy to oblige, and my new employer understood.
Did you see Faith move her neck?
See Faith is a troublemaker from Hell. She deserves what she is getting. No manager would authorize overtime nor would they tell employees overtime is available. This is nothing more than a Gen Z/X fantasy.
Emily, you are my spirit animal.
