Mam, respectfully, NJ fish and wildlife would NEVER (or anyone else) use a foot hold trap to tag a bear.

Black bears and almost any animal for that matter should be legal to own as pets. That is the only way to solve this poaching problem. Someone should adopt that bear.

Susan Keyhoe I have lived in Maine for 15 years, near the Canadian border, and have had the pleasure of seeing many black bears, but usually at a distance. I do carry bear spray when I walk my dog on logging roads, and doggy has a bell, and a lighted collar at night, and we enjoy all wildlife. I have never hunted, or owned a gun, even though I finished two tours of duty in Vietnam near the end of the war (the weapons I had in The Nam were loaned to me by the US government.... LOL ...). I enjoy the little packets of meat I buy at the grocery store, so even though I am not a hunter, I appreciate their right to pursue their sport, BUT ONLY IN A LEGAL, SAFE MANNER. In Maine, since I am 100% disabled due to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, I have been given a FREE FISHING LICENSE, but since I do not own a gun, and do not hunt, I am unfamiliar with the hunting laws for vets. I think you ought to have reported this man the first time, and it seems as if he knows, in his heart, that he is doing something inappropriate, or illegal. Up here in Maine, we've had a few people shot by hunters, who were merely standing on their own property behind their house. IT IS VITAL THAT HUNTERS do it safely, and legally. Any hunter who is doing what this man is doing ought to be reported, but then again, I defer to your experience. Being a war veteran is no excuse for acting like an asshole. I hate to be so blunt, but that's the way I phrased it. Just looked at your post again, and if his friend said this man is, "not responsible for his actions because he is a war vet," then the kindest way to put this is, "BULLSHIT!" Once again, I defer to your experience with bears, and your home turf, and wish you and your wildlife a good day. Roger J Stavitz in Maine.

Are you insane? He was very clearly attacked by a bear. You can get access to the autopsy records through OPRA. I know you won't that would mess up YOUR agenda. You get all close to bears in your videos, you are the reason they begin to not fear humans.
