    About that time to start working in events for the comp into these training videos. I just looked at the events. You plan on training truck pull and sandbag toss over bar? I put together a 15’ tall pvc contraption for sandbag tosses and it was relatively inexpensive and got the job done.

    • @theaverageliftingguy1993
      @theaverageliftingguy1993 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m guessing my next 2 blocks will shift in to more events training but we’ll see. My sandbags are pretty good but definitely need to work on my hand coordination for truck pulls. For my sandbag setup I got 4 10’ pipes I can connect together and a wooden base to hold them upright. Then drilled holes in the top of the pipes and ran a thin rope through a pvc pipe and back through those holes so I can raise and lower the height of the bar.

I can’t fully extend it in most areas, just curious if you’ve always been able to lift yours over your head or is it something you’ve worked on? • @theaverageliftingguy1993
      @theaverageliftingguy1993 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brokenskate300 it’s been a process of trial and error over the years. When I started lifting in high school it was because I was embarrassed that I couldn’t do push ups or even bench the bar. My arm was definitely more stiff when I was younger but over the years through stretching and strengthening the muscles I can I’ve gained more mobility. It’s not perfect and never will be, but it’s so much better then when I first started. Just go slow and work on gaining some more mobility through stretching and then strengthen that new range of motion. I know one thing that helped me was using my good arm to help my bad arm do the movements, like db presses. Other things like using the smith machine that’s a fixed bar helped me early on learn how to press with my left side without needing to focus on balance, just how I’m moving my arm. Taking it slow and being patient is your friend that’s for sure, but telling yourself you can do it or there’s another way to get it done vs. “I can’t do it” was a big mental game changer too, as I was told I couldn’t do a lot of things growing up that I do daily now. I’ll keep posting regular on this channel and I might start adding short videos on how I specifically overcome certain movements if that would help. I also have an Instagram account with the same handle. I hope this helps in any way buddy.

    I feel like this should be the only for tall people to deadlift. It makes no sense e in a competition for powerlifting a 4ft9 chick has to dead at the same height as a 7ft guy. It's almost impossible for me at 6ft2 to have perfect form on a deadlift and that's why I slipped my disc on 495lbs. If I do light deqds really low that's great but when it's heavy I need to be way higher up.

    • @theaverageliftingguy1993
      @theaverageliftingguy1993 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately it’s impossible to make it fair to everyone because not only does height play a factor, limb length does too, so raising the height of the lift to accommodate a person’s height wouldn’t be enough to make it fair. But I do agree it sucks lol. I’m 6’ 7” so even an 18” pull is below my knees. So personally I’d like to see 18” lifts like the silver dollar deadlift be limited to individuals 6 feet or higher, and my reason for that lift in particular is with the short guys and gals, you reach a certain weight and they can’t even get it off the floor anymore because with their lockout so low the weights don’t even break the floor. So they’ll always be limited. It would be better if they made a 13” silver dollar lift for weight class athletes so they could push those numbers higher, but then it’s not a traditional silver dollar height and can’t be compared to records. I try not to dwell on it too much and focus on myself, but if I ever run a comp I’ll be making the deadlift heights higher for the taller guys lol.

    Left shoulder injured? What’s with the strap grip?

    • @theaverageliftingguy1993
      @theaverageliftingguy1993 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the question. I have Erb’s Palsy in my left shoulder so have mobility and nerve issues. I can’t get my hand back to the bar on that side because I can’t retract my scapula and rotate my arm back so I hold the strap. I did buy an SSB so I could squat and not worry about mobility because of the handles in the front, but I like squatting with a regular barbell more so I do it this way. At one point I was able to hold the bar with both hands but hurt my shoulder from over stretching it so I stopped trying to squat normal and stuck with the strap.
