Lets do a proper tuneup and an install and test of @ThunderHead289 's Carb Cheater on the 1967 Business Casual Nova. Is it a good fit for a straight 6 and a 1 barrel carb? Can we tell the difference? How hard is the install? Lets find out!

OMG, dude, I bet you keep a steady supply of bandaids laying around 😂
How much does it cost
@marshahostetter3624 the setup I got is $351 at the time of this video. If you add the adapter and display, it will go up. I believe the display unit was $75 when I bought it. I didn't use an adapter. Thanks for watching.
Is that the southern part
Sweet ride! Glad you liked it! -Joe
Thanks, Joe!
I am new to the channel, why didnt you guys start removing the rust, paint the floor under the gas tank, the backing plates and engine compartment... that's a pretty solid car. Thanks for the content!
@CheapSunglasses0 thanks for watching. I knew the plan was to tear it back apart, I was just hoping to get it to live for the first time in decades. Currently the car is apart and getting all the rust work that it needs. There will be a video on it again in the spring.
Thanks for this video. I'm considering a Carb Cheater for my Studebaker. Got a question though.......at the end of the video, exactly what were you adjusting on the Carb Cheater, the air/fuel ratio?
@@r1lark yes. I was using the carb cheaters data to set AFR and see its relation to vacuum.
Like your video- constructive criticism is that the first half is not needed or have for a separate video when you title it as an install of this kit.
@justinjoyit13 the tune up is kind of part of the install. I took 3 tries coming up with a video title and ultimately left it this simple because it needed to be 100 words or less and descriptive enough to make people want to watch. Thanks for watching!
I'm having the same problem, with the Bluetooth. It doesn't connect. Is it named Auto Assist?
@dustinheffker3524 it's just called carb cheater on bluetooth. It took me a few tries and I'm not sure if it was just slow to pair or if I was doing it wrong. It has worked fine since.
Now I've gotta find a set of side mirrors that can do this as a single unit
ive had this issue and didnt touch the crank or have it fixed , the factory runs v series bearings v is for vanderveldt they used to be industry standard and are pretty hard but not the hardest . id have run H series H is for hard bearings and got them .010 under the H series are run in nascar the harder bearings that ate into the crank probably turned the crank down. that motor ran great for about 3 years in a jeep running hi rpm won a lot of mud races floated across the mud i could literally turn that motor over with 1 finger it was that loose had zero static resistance.
That will definitely give you that shimmy. Keybis you made it home. Wad great to hang with ya buddy. Hope the hood is a good one
Respect. That's a lot of work you're doing on that Nova.
Wonderful old car! I love those Studebaker Larks. Well worth all the effort to get it back into shape.
Now if I could only do something about my fuel guage. Have to use a dipstick.
I had that going on with my '69 Chevy. Unplugged the cable from behind the dash, sprayed some WD-40 down the line and it took care of it. 😎
@@austindarrenor I'll give that a try. Thanks
Car is coming along quite nicely. keep up the good work
Hey, I have the Mountain Dew bottle that came out of that car
@@rmax3760 I've kept one to put back in the car when it's all finished. There were a bunch of them! Lol
What model DC to DC charger did you use?
Those green buick apollo bench seat covers are now on sale at half price on e t s y. They would fit in this car I'm sure. The sale will last for a couple of weeks. The tan version is also on sale, but at a slightly lower price. Apparently, someone already bought a green one. If you are interested, I'm just letting you know. It could have been someone else, or maybe you got one after I told you. I've written on several different youtube videos, so I don't remember if I told you about it. there are just a few of them remaining.
You can’t forget to pick up a Mountain Dew for her maiden voyage…lol
Yeah, I think your right! Lol!
A set of ratcheting boxed end wrenches would come in handy there.
I have a set and I almost never touch them... Im not sure why, I guess. Ill have to move them to a drawer I open more often so I'm reminded.
@@attemptedauto I know exactly what you mean. I’m the same way.
I'm a big nova fan have one myself thanks for saving this one I'll keep watching
Thanks for watching! Ive always been a Nova fan as well.
I just put floor pans in my 73. It's not fun, but it's easy.. it's just time consuming.
Ahhh my second car back in high school in 1982
About halfway through this video my mind started playing "The Impossible Dream". This car has turned you into an automotive Don Quixote. Don't give up. You're well on your way to turning this dream into a reality.
Thank you! Ill do my best!
The Green Disease has rust in curious places. Just think that was the "good hood" we found 😅
I think its still a good hood. I hope I don't find holes when I strip it down.
Day 2 intro was amazing…
Well done! Darned sure it ran. The Stude V8s are virtually impossible to blow up. As much iron as a Cadillac and only 259 cubes. And no timing chain to worry about - they are all gear drive cams. You can get OD in first gear if you rev the heck out of the engine, and 2nd and 3rd of course. So, 6 possible gears. Impress your friends! Will need a valve adjustment sooner or later.
Yeah, it has a little valve noise but it does run smooth and idle quietly. Thanks for watching. The Studebaker will be back on the channel late summer.
Just found your channel and subscribed. Very nice work. I understand working through problems. Bill from Flat broke garage mentioned you.
Glad to have you here! Thanks for watching!
What is the model of that charger? (Amps)
The giveaway has been claimed. For those that never stick around until the end, I usually drop a little crumb somewhere late. Thanks for watching!
Hey I love old cars and old cans. I’d like to have that if you’re giving it away. Can I get your email address? I’ve been watching you all through the green disease deal. Great videos. Thanks and best of luck.
My email address is listed in my channel description. Its misadventures222@gmail.com thanks for watching!
That's one of my dream cars. I fell in love with them when they first came out. Unfortunately that 60+ year old dream has never come true. I guess I'll just have to enjoy yours from a distance.
I had a nova when I was younger loved it would like to find another one to fix up someday
your distributor is turned way too far
Its still stuck in this engine too! Im going to have to get violent to remove it, I think. Thanks for watching!
You have a prestolite ignition. That point on the plastic part of the distributor the vacuum advance should pointed more towards the power steering pully
Wouldn’t getting rid of the breakaway battery and using the trailer battery simplify things and clean up the tongue? Unless your trailer is new those breakaway batteries typically only last a few years anyway so it might have been bad at the time of this video. Just throwing and idea out there. Thanks for the video brother!
Ill be honest, that never crossed my mind. When it needs replaced, that might be a good way to go. Thanks for the idea!
How's the Studebaker Lark ? I learned to drive in a Lark ! Will this one be for sale upon completion ? Having one for the time I have left, would be a great tribute to my dad..a die hard Studebaker buyer ! I'm a old duffer, 73 , chasing childhood memories..😅 Thanks for your courage, patience and sheer determination, SIR !!
Were kind of a "no kill" shelter here. At some point Im sure ill need to thin the herd but I don't think the Studebaker is going anywhere for quite a while. Thanks for watching!
Great job ! Love your "no give up" attitude !!
I just found your videos ! Really enjoyed your getting it started ! May I ask what finally happened to that Lark ?
I still have it. Its waiting for its turn with my welder. It needs front floor pans. I still have a couple gremlins to deal with, like the charging system and a working heater (and a couple other small items). Im hoping to get it to a rally this fall or winter
Why are you using a dc to dc charger? Surely a split charge relay on the vehicle side should be enough?
It will monitor and charge the Aux battery separate of the vehicle battery and will maintain the 14v needed to properly charge the trailer battery. One year later, it still functions properly and I've never taken this battery off the trailer.
Im greening
Keep swinging buddy
Yes do the van sometime. I also like to suggest, don't begin a project until all parts are on hand or are ordered. That way viewers have a uninterrupted project to follow.
Yes. I honestly didn't know how much this car was going to need. I appreciate that advice, im still learning this youtube stuff. The Nova will probably end up being a series of small projects, each with its own video (or two). Thanks for watching!
New subscriber here over from Flat broke. Glad to see the Nova getting another chance! Being the youngest in my family. I grew up in the 80s and 90s with both of my older brothers having 73 Novas. Every day they were adding more performance parts and changing things out. Ironically enough picking up a lot of parts in my dad's 66 econoline. But i always said one day I'll have my own Nova. As it's my dream car. But at 42 i still don't have one. I'm hoping some day to get one to work on with my son. Anyway can't wait to see what you do with it! Also, How cool would it be to drive it back it where you saved it from for some pictures lol.
Glad you found the channel! Hey, I was a month away from 50 when I got this Nova. I sold my 71 when I was 18 and have missed it ever since. Its pretty cool that your parts runner was also the same as one of my projects. Hope you stick around and watch this stuff come back to roadworthy!
@@attemptedauto can't wait to see the progress! Looking forward to it
Congratulations on keeping it worthy of putting it back in the junkyard
Sorry Bill and I fell short of a SEMA level car on a working mans budget and 5 days. We were worried about what you might have thought of our effort. 🙄 Good news though, I love this car and will keep on working on it until it meets MY standards. Hope you keep watching. Im looking forward to your negative comments! When i get a chance, ill check out your channel for its no doubt awesome content! Cheers!
Awesome 1973 Nova at least its going to a great home where it will get T L C ❤
Thanks! It will be a fun project.
I owned a customised '70 Nova around 50 years ago which had a stock 307 motor that would fail to start every time that it rained because of condensation occurring inside the distributor cap. So,each time it rained,I had to remove the distributir cap, wioe it dry, replace it then only being able to start the car,but for the look of the new paint job, the raised white letter tires, tte wide Mickey Thompson tires n the back, the Cragar mags on the front, the deep dish reverse chrome wheels with baby moon hubcaps on the back, the Hi Jacker air shocks and the Laker sidepipes then I just couldnt bear to give up the car 😂 At the same time, I was still too mechanically nieve to work out the issue with the distributor cap condensation problem because the cap was always sealed properly and i could never see a xpcrack in it.
Nova but leave 305 ,Just find a 700r4 for Cruising, ls swap are so over done , being Ford guy love the the econoline van and f150
I love that F150! Cant wait to see the nova back on the road. Great video buddy
Thank you! The old plow truck is definately ready for some attention too.
High energy ignition, also known as H.E.I., is an electronic ignition system designed by the Delco-Remy Division of General Motors. It was used on all GM vehicles, at least in the North American market, from 1975 through the mid-1980s.
