I believe it's a type of twin junk rig

My friend bought it from the previous owner who built it. I was just a crew member.

Es gibt jedes Jahr die TID eine internationale Donauwanderfahrt. Da fahren viele Menschen die Donau von Deutschland bis ans schwarze Meer. Denen kann man sich anschließen.

Colaaah Not really. I am bussy with family life these days. But if you need company I can ask some friends.

No I'm not the new owner. A friend of mine. He lives on the boat with his family. Why did the mast snap? Probably a construction mistake, and heavy conditions...

Jonathan Bonsels thanks for the reply. We at Junkrigassociation were wondering what happened to Apatiki. I learned there was a concern with the masts being too thin walled for the stresses. Another 46 Tiki was built with masts about 5 times as strong. No worries there.

Jonathan Bonsels forgot to ask has the mast been repaired, replaced or improved?

doclees11 it will be replaced. I think this time they take a wooden Mast.

Jonathan Bonsels No, it was a design error. One inner sleeve was missing (unlike in the construction plans), so the stiffness was not balanced. There was nothing wrong with our sailing.

Most of the way you had too much sail up, and your ropes and blocks were underdimensioned. The difference between sailing monohulls and cats are that in monohulls you set sail for the average wind, ind cats you set sail for the gusts, as multihulls can't uptain the power in the gusts like monohulls, as monohulls will bend and sway in a way cats can't. So this energy will be uptained in the rig, the mast and the boat. You sailed like you were sailing an American Cup boat. You broke it. A good video to learn how NOT to do... Thanks for the upload...

For an americas cup i think it wasen't enough. We constantly adapted the sails to the changing conitions. But yea that rig on that boat makes sailing more difficult than I thought. Was a good experience! 😉

@@jesper1406 Yes and no. Junk rigs are less efficient than a bermuda rig, so they're going to carry more sail under all circumstances than a bermuda, regardless of the hull.

As a cat and junk rig follower, I would say that mast looks a bit on the thin side. At least being a biplane there was a spare!

+Jonathan Bonsels I surfed when I lived in Norcal. When asked that question I said "no, but they saw me!". Getting bumped on a board but not knowing what it was is spooky.
