Danielle Byington is an educator, artist, author, and PhD student in University of Jaén’s Languages and Cultures program where she focuses on early modern English literature as well as word and image studies. She created the educational art business Sight into Insight in 2020 which explores the relationship of language and visual arts to enhance emotional understanding, a project that has received several grants for research. Her creative writing is published in various journals/magazines along with two poetry chapbooks, as well as two children’s books. She is also an award-winning visual artist whose work frequently acts as a social commentary on women in mythology and history, her art having been exhibited and published internationally. Byington enjoys life with her Shakespearean better half and three ridiculous cats.
Components of the Split-Feminine Psyche: Arriving at the Dead Girl Trope - Goddesses & Archetypes
This video elaborates on the segments of the split-feminine psyche, which has been given various labels by a number of theorists across time. While essentially rooted in the psychoanalytic background of the cults of Aphrodite and other goddesses, I explain the relationship to the modern archetype often referred to as the Dead Girl Trope.

In Spanish and French we say leaves.😃
Indeed! Hojas de papel, right?
@@sightintoinsight Yup, sheet of paper. So, of yore we said "leaves of paper"?
came here for the midterm study and enjoyed the explanation. I will also watch other videos in my free time. it was very pleasant, thanks
It's a same situation as Job- the devil says "I'll get your best man". Faust, in his quest for answers, ends up conjuring mephistophles, who sees this as an opportunity to corrupt faust. Faust, miserably unhappy with the state of things, somewhat jokingly engages with the devil and they strike a pact: if the devil can make him happy, he can have faust's soul. And boy does the devil try- but it all comes with a sour twist. He gets the girl he likes- but ends up killing her brother. He is leader of a nation- but he is tyrant. And almost whimsically, despite faust having done some really messed up stuff along the way, god snatches up his soul when it's his time- because the devil never succeeded in making faust happy. It's a very complex story that questions the nature of man, religion, morals and science.
Ich habe dir nicht nachgestellt; Du allein bist ins garn gegangen. Der teufel halte wer ihn hält- Er wird ihn nicht so bald zum zweiten male fangen It's a masterpiece. There is a gutenberg translated version that is quite good, it retains the meter.
👌🏽😇🫛
this video helped me so much understand this story even better for my upcoming exam, you are amazing
Glad it helped! Good luck on your exam!
Good job miss 😊
Thank you from Israel for this amazing video - it helps a lot!!!
Very good mam
thank you! I am a bit unclear on how the poem suggests Plato's allegory - does the poet suggest that the vale of Arne is actually merely the equivalent of a shadow on the wall of a cave? I know he is looking for a source of wisdom - a secret spring - that makes people doubt whether the image they are looking at is really the sunshine outside of the cave or merely the misleading shadows thrown against the walls? Anyway, thanks for your work on this!
Hello--indeed, while Shelley might not directly point to Plato, the tenth edition Norton Anthology of English Literature suggests that he alludes to Plato's Cave in lines 41-48. Abstract, philosophical, and semi-uncertain about his own national/geographical standing in life at the time, it seems fitting to look at Mont Blanc (the landmark) as that thing first difficult to see in full light outside the cave, due to its outstanding beauty, making you also question how the rest of your life compares.
Thank you for this analysis. I had some trouble putting together the relationship with Iris. I had to go to the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy to obtain more information on her as well. This was a lovely video and I look forward to viewing more of your videos in the future.
Hi Danielle, just thought I’d drop a line to say how much I’m enjoying your channel. As an educator in Nevada, I find myself looking for all things literary and your channel doesn’t disappoint! All the best to you… Cheers 💖!
Thank you, @hiwayshoes! Sometimes my channel might veer from strictly literature since Sight into Insight has an umbrella of things I do (within the scheme of education and art), but are there other specific literary things you might be looking for? As an educator, maybe short writer biographies, short artist biographies, or just more conflations of bio and specific works? Just curious for not only further videos, but sensing as a whole what other educators are looking at out there. Thanks for your time! :)
Hi Danielle!@@sightintoinsight Thanks for the question! I have two recommendations for your future video topics, both are ones I've never seen done (if they're out there on the internet, they're well hidden). One is a comparison/contrast of the two WWI poets Wilfred Owen and Rupert Brooke; the other is a comparison/contrast of Ukrainian-American painter Janet Sobel with American painter Jackson Pollock, and the drip painting technique. And I love most any literary genre, esp. late 19thC-20thC. The Modernist period always catches my eye. Covering TS Eliot would be delightful! Thanks again for all your efforts.... Cheers! Janice
Hi thanks for your in depth analysis. I was wondering if there is a correlation between bow and bough and the way pound used Japanese style of poetry. Ppl give a bow in japan to respect...
