I first heard this song sung by my grandmother, who was born in 1899 in Witchitaw Falls Kansas. I learned to play it on the fiddle by watching an old video of Tommy, I think it was this one. in the 1970s.
This tune does not go on long enough ....i keep having to rewind and watch it again ...absolute gem!
❤❤❤❤❤
Way too fast, and I'm sure it's not Aly setting that pace. 😄
Love it
🙏
Love it
AMEN
The oldest guy probably died before I was born.
Young Aly Bain
Her fingers are moving so fast with such ease 🤯. She gives me so much to look forward to. I’m a new learner in my early 30s and I now know that I will have the power to play until the end of time. ❤
Tommy J
I love this woman, she is absolutely wonderful God rest her soul RIP😢💜❤️💜😢
I love this! One of my favorite songs. I could listen all day.
Danke für das wunderbare Video an diese einzigartige Bahn! 🚠🔝
There are so many missing videos TH-cam got rid of, uncle Charley from independence VA, even a lot of Tommy jarells videos too
Cool
Looks easy. Hope they had a lot of A535 on hand !
Mike Seeger is the most natural banjer picker I have ever had the privilege of seeing or hearing.
Inspired me to learn fingerpicking all those years ago. Then l discovered Mississippi John Hurt, Gary Davis , and all those wonderful players . Priceless.
I always wondered what it's been used for. This is probably the most surprising answer.
bill monroe wrote this in recognition of scottish fiddle reel music in appalachian and bluegrass fiddle music. fiddle reel music being indigenous to scotland having made it's way over to ireland in the 1800s alang with 100s o scots tunes.
I love her she’s super cool man can u imagine her life hard parts and good parts wat a resilient lady just super wereever she is she definitely playing a geetar 😀😀cheers from Ireland 🇮🇪🎸🎸🎸🎸I love playing this tune 😍😍😍😍
good tunes man
Good picking ❤
Johnny Gimble is my all time favorite fiddler. 😊
Allright, ... I'm just gonna come out 'n' say it; this woman is my favorite woman of the last 200 years!
That subtle bend she plays on the F chord must be one of the most soulful notes ever played on the guitar anytime, any place.
I'm not sure I've ever heard a fiddler with such amazing control over both double stops and the full length of the bow. This doesn't sound like a fiddler playing double stops - it truly sounds like two fiddles playing. Every note in every chord is perfectly balanced in volume and tuning.
what a wonderful lady.
Is the full episode available anywhere? This is wonderful.
God bless her
Tommy is playing in cross tuning. Anyone know what his tuning is?
Beautiful 🎻 🌟
Thankfully Someone Saved the Elizabeth Cotten Video ! I first heard about her back in the 1950s. Now in 2023 , at 80, I'm relearning the song "Freight Train" and how to finger pick a Gretsch G5022CWFE A/E. Guitars have changed over the past 100 years; However, her song "Freight Train" keeps on going. Thank You Elizabeth Cotten !!
👏👏👏👏👏Beautiful
Is that Aliven Crow on the far right?
Yes, Alvin Crow is there (on the left hand side as you're looking at the video, on the right hand side from the group's viewpoint.😀
This is my all time favorite public videos of my dear departed Uncle Junior Daugherty. Sure do miss him 😢.
Was it just blind luck that she ended up working for the Seegers?
He and my great uncle Lester were amazing fiddlers. I knew jps grandson. He was my best friend and looked as handsome. JP would have been proud. Dominick wanted to follow music just like him and his mother Danielle.
Junior passed away last week...from his bed he played a tune with his grandson and then fell asleep and never woke up. It was a good way to go at 92 and fitting for the legend he was
great lady
Class
Bless her soul all be it she is already in heaven, absolutely amazing.
True genius. I love her songs so much.
A testament to what the music meant to Allie Bain as to Elizabeth 'Lebbe' Cotton too. Has it been 17 years...?
Thank you lovely lady. A true genius.
Just wonderful !!
This melody is the old McLeod's reel from the Scots and before the time of Lewis and Clark expedition exploring the American west. ....didja ever see the devil, uncle Joe, uncle joe, I don't mind the weather so the wind don't blow....
素晴らしいです! Tokyou japan
