Conrail SD80MACs At Lake Ave, Blasdell, NY on Conrail's Last Weekend
มุมมอง 6K13 ปีที่แล้ว
We caught SD80MACs 4126 and 4128 on westbound SEIN storming Lake Ave in Blasdell, NY on Saturday May 29, 1999. The 4128 seems to need some maintenance as she's doing an Alco impression. We spent all day shooting what we could as this was the Last Weekend and we would never see CR trains again after Monday. We also caught the last CR train to run past Frontier Yard at 11:59 PM Monday. It hit the...
Daisy and Krusty Battle
มุมมอง 8213 ปีที่แล้ว
Back when Krusty was a seven or eight month old punk teenager, he used to attack anyone. Daisy has never put up with a lot of BS from other dogs or cats so it didn't take long for her to get fed up with it! She still chases him off today, even though he is bigger than she is now.
NS and CP Blast Through the Welland Tunnel at Night
มุมมอง 79113 ปีที่แล้ว
Will Holloway and I spent the day and evening railfanning Welland on August 31, 1998. To cap off a day of great train watching, we went back to the tunnel under the Welland Canal hoping to catch one more train. We got more than we bargained for! An NS stack train obliged us, but there was another headlight at the same time! CP had sent a light engine east and it hit the tunnel as the stack trai...
Conrail and CSX in Homestead, PA, Summer, 1998
มุมมอง 1.8K13 ปีที่แล้ว
On our way back from Horseshoe Curve, Will Holloway (Iron Horse America Video) and I stopped by Homestead, PA to see if there was any action and there was. We both shot video from the Grant St extension (since rebuilt, much of this area has changed) and managed to catch a Conrail train of hoppers, coal gons and coke cars led by then brand new standard cab SD70's built in CR's Juniata Shops for ...
Bulldog Pleco Eggs Hatching
มุมมอง 51K14 ปีที่แล้ว
Back in December 2003 were very surprised to find one of our Rubbernose Plecos guarding a clutch of eggs glued to a rock in our 90 gallon bedroom aquarium. As there were some good sized semi-aggressive fish in that tank, we decided to move the rock with the eggs to a 2-1/2 gallon incubation tank. When we later found that one of the eggs had hatched, we decided to set up the video camera so we c...

Strates Carnival Train Passes Through Buffalo on August 4, 1998
มุมมอง 3.5K14 ปีที่แล้ว
I spent a pleasant afternoon railfanning while waiting for the Strates Carnival Train at the site of the former FW interlocking in Buffalo, NY in early August of 1998. It had traveled the ex-PRR Buffalo Line from Pennsylvania en route to Hamburg, NY for the Erie County Fair. Everything went great until that darned westbound TY train came along and got in the way. At least it wasn't auto racks a...
NYSW 4052 and Southern 4610 Pass Through FW in Buffalo, August 4, 1998
มุมมอง 1.2K14 ปีที่แล้ว
While I was waiting for the Strates carnival train at the site of old FW interlocking in Buffalo, I happened to notice a yellow faced loco in the distance on the Bison Runner by SK yard. A quick peek with the binocs showed it to be a Susie Q SD70M. I set up the vid cam for the runby and grabbed the SLR for some stills. As the scanner chatter shows, there was also a CP transfer coming around the...
Lacakwanna Railroad Bridge at Military Road in Buffalo Just Before Repainting
มุมมอง 76614 ปีที่แล้ว
The morning of July 30, 1998 I got a panicked call from a friend to tell me that the City of Buffalo was about to paint over LACKAWANNA RAILROAD on the bridge at Military Road. I gathered up the cameras and off I went to record it for posterity. R.I.P. Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad, The Route of Phoebe Snow.

Derails happen alot more than the news tells everyone. Just think
damn, i was 4 in 2009. ik by the comments they had a bad day.
Nowadays Norfolk Southern would have you arrested sadly.
ALTO did NOT have a good day that day. The radio speaks for itself.
Atleast this was before NS and CSX killed Conrail.
This is probably some of the only footage of the NS intermodal trains that they used to run in Ontario. Great video
How did he not know that the car is on the ground and good job notifying the helper crew.
Driver doesn’t care!
Good Catch guys! We need guys like you line side to give us inspections!
hi do you have pics of.male.and female.
Was the tracks at the curve originally owned by Conrail?
The locomotives in the video are still around today. 6089 is currently GECX 7316 6858 is currently NS 6712 6845 is currently NS 6703 6384 is currently NS 3344 And 6387 is currently NS 3346
That's nice to know. I hadn't thought to check.
Not anymore. The 6858 and 6845 have been retired & scrapped in 2019. 6089 probably met the same fate, not 100% sure. 3346 was retired this year and sold to a recycling company in Illinois, presumably for scrap. Only the 3344 remains
@@DASCO2136 uh uh 🙄. No way
@@DASCO2136 6858 & 6845 were rebuilt. I think?
No. They were slated to be part of the SD60E rebuilds but NS ended the program in 2017. Out of the 135 units rebuilt, there were no ex Conrail SD60s included
I could and do at times sit for hours watching show train videos🎪👍
I'd love to see Conrail make a comeback...
Always nice when a railfan can save the railroad a little money by helping out...
damn, last train upload
I haven't done much with any of my rail videos in a while.
@@cp256 holy shit your still active
Good of you to help out !!
NICE CATCH.KEEP IT UP.
Something not possible today, all of those units are retired or rebuilt now

Wish i explored Pittsburgh more during Conrail
Fantastic trains. Super video. 👍👍👌👌👌👌
If they would have made it to the interlocking at MG that would have been it. It would have been a hell of a wreck.
can't they make radios without all that nasally sound
Even 28 years ago they were smart enough to use pushers that most likely prevented a much larger wreck
And just like that it wasn't the end 28 years later
Yep 28 years later but a much bigger wreck. Clean up was lightning fast and efficient. Says a lot for Hulcher and NS MoW.
28 years later, a major derailment happens on the curve
CSX RF&P Guy-Another derailment AGAIN 2 weeks later on 7-26-19
Another derailment just happened a couple hours ago, not major but there will be delays.
A couple of years ago on a pizza delivery I was stuck at a UP crossing and about the middle of the train I started hearing BANG,,,, BANG,,,, BANG!!! Then saw a car pass and I could SEE one wheel with about 1/4 to 1/3 of the flange gone. I immediately called the UP 800 number on the box at the crossing and told them. They were happy a foamer called to tell them. The guy I was talking to quickly knew which train I was talking about. That’s the 3rd broken flange I have seen. It’s makes a distinct and loud noise like a Gorilla whacking an anvil with a sledgehammer and you can easily hear it over the noise of the train. One railroad employee told me years ago to call the railroad or police if you see one because it can cause a derailment. If I see one again I want to get a video of it.
I was born in December 2003 lol I’m 15 now
We still have fish from 2000! :)
i think that was a special occasion, when i believe planetcatfish that breeding is not often reported. This is the only youtube video i think documenting the actual reproduction of L187 in a tank.
It was a big surprise for us at the time and hasn't happened again since then. That looks like a '59 Chevy in your avatar. My dad had one of those when I was a baby. I had a '61 Nomad wagon for more than 15 years.
Awesome video your pops is the.man
When I was little and I watched videos of conrail trains I called them snail train. I think the logo resembles a snail shell
Could someone tell me what happened to conrail
In 1999 Conrail was taken over roughly 50/50 by CSX and Norfolk Southern. Conrail still exists to do join switching in some locations.
I miss Conrail.
Great video! I wish there were still some Conrail locomotives paint around!
Are you sure? I thought they were all gone...
I wish the same,..my Dad worked for Conrail for over 30 yrs. I sure do miss him,....would be nice to see an old Conrail engine.
RS3Ls sound fantastic on these things with their overpressurized air systems. Much better results than the K3LAs that went on ATSF SD75Ms of similar era.
Nice work! Where i live if you are derailed you have no time to tell the train crew *cough* Amtrak *cough*
Hey bro you still upload
Not lately. I have a whole bunch of '90s RR stuff on Hi-8 I need to get to at some point.
Oh ok im gonna sub so i dont miss the uploads!
b3j8: With the wheels on the outside of the curve, they would probably run there for a while UNTIL the train went into a right hand curve. Everything would fall apart then. The pushers are not going to cause a derailment under these circumstances because they cannot push that hard. They can only pick up a portion of the rear half or less of the train. The other thing that will cause the derailment 'before' the right hand curve is to finally have the wheels dig in and flip the truck sideways and the crap hits the fan at that time irregardless of curved or straight track.
Lucky, that could have turned out much worse! I've heard of derailments happening where one set of wheels drag for a couple of miles before finally coming apart and derailing the rest of the train.
CSXT 703258 Gondola.
I have seen these locomotives before and my god they sound amazing, and they can pull!
That is because of the AC traction motors that were under the "Conrail Cadillacs" and as told by the EMD field rep when we got our orientation on them he stated that "They are a little slow to take off but when they get rolling they are the equivalent to a 9 axle locomotive"...
Ken Davenport- I know that the SD80MAC's did have AC traction
cute / funny😂😋
What kind of tank do you recommend for breeding the plecos - bare bottom, sand, aqua soil.....? And what kind of breeding caves are best?
We aren't professional breeders, it just happened in our bedroom 90 gallon tank. We used smooth aquarium gravel over a sand substrate and had several flat rocks arranges somewhat haphazardly around the tank, some leaning up against others to form semi-open "caves." In addition to flake food (it was a community tank) and natural algae we fed the plecos algae wafers regularly.
Nice work and olden day catches! Good on you for telling the helper crew
How do they go about rerailing out in the field like that. Crib block? wood?
+Nathan Vitchner It depends on how serious the derailment is. It can be as simple as using a frog to walk an axle back onto the rail and as complex as using one or more cranes to lift entire cars. In this case the flanges were ground off of the axles on the derailed truck so the gondola was set out until the axles or the whole truck could be replaced. I don't know exactly how it was done in this case, but it could have been as simple as using some cribbing and jacks to roll the old axles out and the new ones in.
In the coal mine. We run em through the "right side". Like u say through the frog and they pop right back on. Lil rough on the switch . Lot easier that jacking.
Loding tini j
What caused the derailment?
+John Moore We never found out. Supposedly it occurred more than a mile back from the curve.
cp256 Thank for the info.
+cp256 Official report was slabs that were improperly loaded and shifted to one side. My dad was the brakeman on there!
+toocheaptosmoke Thanks
+toocheaptosmoke Thanks for the info. Wish my dad was still around, he'd get a kick out of finding out about it 25 years later...
