Guitar Rants and Stuff!
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 8 พ.ย. 2021
Welcome to Guitar Rants and Stuff. This channel is all about me just having fun with different guitar related projects. Sometimes it's me repairing or attempting to build something, restoring something or just telling a story. I am not a full time you tuber, I have not formal luthier or repair tech training, I am learning as I go. I do this on the side as a project that maybe one day will yield some income or a following when I retire from my 9 to 5 gig. My hope is to encourage other hobbyist to explore creating content and to create a place where dialog and creativity is encouraged. Fire away with comments and feedback or ideas.

The Zeppelin was good.
@@sunnybv Thanks I just changed the title because I realized there is enough of that riff in there to cause copyright issues without it in the name!
Look forward to the rants.
@@sunnybv thanks!
In the future, don't move your bridge! When you swap out necks, you get necks with different heel lengths and shapes. that is what you should alter to get the correct scale length, the neck heel. Even here you added the wood edging to the wall of the pocket nearest the neck pickup. This is making the issue even worse, causing the neck to sit even farther from the bridge. You should have put the edging on just the sides of the pocket (Top and bottom of pocket while in playing position). Great idea with the wood edging! Thank you.
so the body was a super cheap body and I am pretty sure that the neck did not match. The pocket was super loose. I didn't move the bridge I straightened it out because it was drilled crooked. I get what you are saying though that you could mess up the scale length. Alot of this was just experimentation to see if using iron on veneer would actually work to tighten up the neck pocket.
It just worked great for me! @@guitarrantsandstuff
Interesting fix. Wish you would have shown just how loose the neck was in the pocket. How thick was the veneer strip and how well did the iron on glue stick especially in the radius. Looked too tight but maybe ok.
Usually the veneer does not need to ne thicker than 1mm, probably not gonna get it thicker than that anyway. But you can layer it. And theres no avoiding sanding in the pocket if you do it that way.
The way I like to do it, is put a peice of tape on, like the pickgaurd goes, and fill it full of super glue with the body upright. That super glue is hard stuff, it won't let the neck wiggle
I have one of these, I've been considering selling it and buying a v22, but it would be too much for home use I am afraid. The real issue is that sometimes the 8` speaker seems too small, and even an 1x12 would fix my issues. How many ohms does the cabinet have? sorry English isn't my mother language. Cheers! Love that Strummer tele btw, I am tele team too. Merry Christmas!
So sorry for the delayed response! I took some time off of you tube! The cab was able to do 8 or 16 ohms from what I remember but I don’t have it anymore!
@@guitarrantsandstuff hey its okay! I sold the Bugera and I bought a Laney V15 for the rehearsal room, and a VOX AC4C1-12 for home use 🤣 I am very happy now.
What if you just used strips of masking tape. Masking tape is basically thin straps of sticky wood ;)
I bought one this days, I didn't receive it yet, can't wait more to him arrive to me haha so I'm looking TH-cam videos about him since the day I bought haha
I'm glad I found this.... Thanks! Maybe there's hope for my guitar after all.... 🤞
Love it! Any way you could do a lesson or explain the picking pattern? I can play the harmonica part but am struggling with the picking and hammer ons
I need to get back on track with making videos but between work, travel and school starting back up I am so busy. I will do that eventually. Im not even sure the way I play it is correct.
You get the best value, a Yamaha FG5
I have had a Yamaha acoustic. The one I had was a good guitar but was not very stable. I was not looking for value when I bought this one. There are dozens of guitars that will come close to the D18 for way less money. This was about getting my dream acoustic and I was blessed to be in a position to do that. I agree with you that the price they ask is outrageous. I had to trade and sell three other guitars to make it happen but I have wanted a Martin D18 since I was 12 years old so at 44 when I was in a position to get one I did.
@@guitarrantsandstuffWhat do you mean it wasn’t very stable?
@@landocalrissian5180 I had one and moved with it and it went haywire! Most of that was related to the moving company storing it wrong but I was not impressed! I hear you though! good value in them! I mean their wood is not old. Not dried and stored before building!
@@guitarrantsandstuff Well that sucks. Whenever I move I take my guitars with me in the car. You live and learn.
Does this amp with full power mode can play in a gigs situation?
"Gig Situation" is a very nuanced comment. You could absolutely use it live in a smaller club or bar gig, church etc. I would mike it though just to be safe. I have never used it for live or a gig but I don't play out anymore. Check out other you tube vides about this amp and other orange amps. Their new OR 30 trough a 4x12 hits the same decibel levels as a 100 watt head. Orange tends to rate their amps at RMS not peak. They are vary loud amps for what they are rated at. Only issue I have with them is you will not ever get a pristine clean sound out of them.
Beautiful guitar
silly question but after heating the veneer in, did you just cut the excess with scissors or shears?
I used an exacto knife.
What cab is that ? A HB212?
Nice job!!
Yes. A soldering iron with the tip removed will work great on those corners.
I just recently got a new gutair for my birthday and My neck pickup is lose on my grote sg how do I repair it
When you loose do you mean it moves around in the pick guard?
Sorry for the delayed response Chang you send me a picture or a video?
@Guitar Rants and Stuff! I took it back to gutair center and they gave me money back on am nice eipiphone les Paul special addition
@@USMC_BABE38 That was probably the better move. Epiphones are great!
You can plug the tiny terror on a 4x12 cabinet?
Yes as long as you match the impedance. That head has two 8ohm and one 16 ohm speaker outputs. Jut make sure that whatever cab you have is 18 or 8 ohms and use the appropriate output jack.
Crushed it!
Thanks Brother!
Great stuff. I was a lifelong (but increasingly disillusioned) Marshall loyalist. Now very happily betrothed to my Orange Dual Terror, which I run through a Hughes & Kettner 4x12. Two Gibsons (SG 61 reissue and LP Studio around the same age as yours), a Duesenberg and a PRS Santana SE all absolutely roar through the Orange, yet with each keeping its own distinct personality intact, which is more than I can say for most latter-day Marshalls.
Yeah you have to dial them in but the terror circuit is fantastic with the right setup!

Sound goods check up my channel I have the same Amp very good amp!!!
I just got this guitar a few days ago. And I have to admit this guitar is wonderful. The best guitar I have ever played.
I got mine as well! I need to do another video but I’ve been so busy lately that my channel has taken a dive!
@@guitarrantsandstuff You are doing great. Keep up the good work. I love this guitar.
Love it. Great tone even with being captured with a phone, and you know it's true because it rhymes : )
Thanks man! I am working on learning to mike it and use my DAW but I’m not there yet!
@@guitarrantsandstuff same, but I'm in an apartment now. Perhaps look into getting a TwoNotes Captor? That's my plan. Sounds like a killer amp though. Best of luck to you my dude!
I played a few of the PRS Silver Sky when it first came out and wasn't blown away. I liked my Fender stratocasters better. That being said I played the SE a few days ago and was pleasantly surprised. I liked the neck profile better than the US one and will probably get one when they release new colors down the road as I am not a fan of any of the colors in the first batch. The SE is a great value. 👍
So I got to feel the neck on an SE at my local shop and it felt pretty good! I didn’t get to play it because it had no strings on it but it felt really good! I’ve been a fender guy for a long time but I can tell you that on their import stuff the necks and fret work are hit or miss! I’ve also noticed they don’t typically level their frets but every PRS or SE I have ever picked up has zero dead spots and almost no fret buzz or sharp ends. But I still love my Fenders but you definitely have to get an American made one in most cases to get one that plays great right out of the box in my opinion!
Dude, where is the guitar review? You’re not playing it so we can hear how it sounds? Do you need to put that bourbon down? Yes you do!
I got to play the US Silver Sky a few times. The first was when they first dropped at the PRS Experience 2018 (and it was the last in person one). I thought the neck was unwieldy and the feel was clunky. I also hated the low output pickups through the PRS amps they had set up for us to play through. Later, I played a few at a our local Guitar Center in VA Beach, and again, not really blown away. The SE really does feel better (to me) than the US model.
I can't wait to get my hands on one. Supposedly the SE pickups measure at a higher output from what Dylan Talks Tone says but they still sound low output or similar to the core model.
I'm a regular Joe, weekend warrior with decent gear and I got mine. I was actually inspired for the first time in years to write a song, so I'll be posting that. That said, I pulled the trigger and gave my Sweetwater rep my CC info the day I heard that PRS and Mayer said, "Save the date, Jan 11". I immediately reached out and got my Silver Sky on preorder that day. I'd guess that you'd be looking at mid May at the earliest right now, so getting it on preorder will give you plenty of time to do what you have to in order to make the cash. Good luck! My video will post on "The Practical Guitarist Podcast" by Monday (Tuesday at the latest).
Word on the street is my local shop is getting some in February. I am sick that I didn't think to be ready to purchase on Jan 11. I took it as they were going to unveil it and didn't realize they would be out for sale then. Used ones on reverb are already at 1100. CRAZY! Can't wait to check out your song! I'll check out the podcast to! Sounds cool!
right on! I'm excited to get my hands on one. I had silver skys (or is it skies??) at 2 different occasions in the past 2 years or so and sold them off. That being said, they were probably the best playing 25.5 scale guitars I've ever played. As a weekend warrior, I couldn't justify keeping them. I'm primarily into humbucker guitars, but a silver sky for $850 has peaked my interest. The reviews I've watched so far are very encouraging!
I like how humbuckers sound but I gravitate more towards the feel of the tele or strat. I am so excited to get an affordable version!
Aldo poplar is pretty good, if you every want to do a build video I have some great stuff.
We should figure out how to do that but I have almost no woodworking tools anymore!
Intro is way better now!
635JM “s” pickups.
Yeah I just saw that in their Facebook page. Means it’s an overseas version of the ones that come in the regular Silver Sky.
Also poplar body…..not sure how I feel about that!
One more sub love the rant and the epi valve jr. In the background.
Thank you so much!
Strummer forever
Where was this guy when we lived nearby....lol
Been awhile since I've heard that beautiful voice..... I'm always looking for good music for my channel. Yes I bothered to watch it. Channel takes time looking forward to more!
Working on learning how to actually do that!
Sounds awesome!! I’ve got one too, and love my Rocker 👍🏾 to get rid of the muddiness on the dirty channel I back the bass to about 8:00 to 9:00 and push the middle to 3:00 and the treble to about 12:00 to 1:00 and with a tube screamer 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Hey thanks for the tip! I appreciate it!
